Just Cuddle Me Already

Summary:

“Fine, but you better watch out. I subconsciously cuddle things in my sleep.”

“Would it be better if we cuddled now then? Get it over and done with.” The smirk on Punz’s face took away any sort of innocence that sentence was meant to have.

Day one: Sharing a bed

Work Text:

Foolish groaned as he got redirected to yet another ‘fully booked’ screen. He had been looking for a hotel room for the past hour or two and has yet to find one. He knew it was hard to find a hotel at the last minute, but he didn’t think it would be this impossible. It wasn’t even his fault, his original hotel emailed him an apology that they had unfortunately double booked and had reimbursed him. However, that left him with the dilemma of no hotel room less than a week before the trip.

“Sorry, man. All the Airbnb’s are booked up as well, I can’t even find a single night free.” Punz's voice crackled over the speaker.

“Ughhh,” Foolish groaned, dropping his head on the table, “what am I going to do?” It was so unfair, it wasn’t his fault he didn’t have a place to stay. He had everything planned and booked way in advance to avoid the problem he was facing now, but of course, nothing could go right for him.

“Just keep looking, there might be a room at the last minute. People cancel hotels all the time.” Foolish could hear the ruffle of Punz shrugging as he closed out of the open tabs.

“And when there’s nothing, what do I do then?” He didn’t like uncertainty. Relying on a cancellation that might not happen isn’t something he was willing to do.

“If you can’t get a room, then you can crash with me.” It was a simple offer but Foolish appreciated it a lot, out of everyone going on the trip Punz was the only one he was really willing to bunk with.

For the next week, Foolish checked the hotel websites every morning. There was a selfish part of his brain that was relieved when he never saw any free rooms. The thought of sharing a room with Punz again created a little warm feeling in his chest.

They had shared rooms, even beds, before in the past and it was the best sleep Foolish had ever gotten. But then came the guilty feeling of sleeping with his crush without the other knowing of his feelings. Foolish didn’t doubt that if Punz knew of his crush, he wouldn’t have offered to share a room.

It wasn’t until the last day before he was due to leave that he finally gave up on the search. There was absolutely nowhere to stay.

Foolish knew he would have to message Punz and alert him that he would be staying with him, but he was reluctant to tell him. Maybe there was a small bit of pride being lost having to admit he couldn’t find a room, maybe he was a little more nervous than he first thought about being around Punz.

Pacing the floor a little, he prepared himself as he pressed the ‘call’ button. The phone rang only twice before there was a crackle and finally a voice.

“Hello?”

“Punz! Hey, so funny story-” Foolish started before he got interrupted.

“You weren’t able to find a hotel?” Punz’s voice was smug but Foolish could hear the slight teasing tone under it.

Foolish sighed. “You already know I couldn’t.” Rolling his eyes to stare at the ceiling he wouldn’t be surprised if Punz was also looking daily to see if there were any free rooms. “Am I still okay to crash with you?”

“Of course it’s okay. My flight gets in just a little before yours, so I’ll wait for you at the airport and we can make our way there together.” Foolish’s head started reeling. Punz had already planned for him to stay, he knew his flight details and had worked him into his plans.

His heart started beating a little faster.

“Sounds good. I’ll see you there.” Foolish forced out, blush rising up his neck to his face. Cheeks heating up as he became tongue tied.

“See you soon, Foosh.” His voice had softened and Foolish couldn’t stop his heart from skipping a beat.

The next day went by in a flash. Before Foolish knew it, he was stepping off of the plane and making his way over to the small cafe where he could already see Punz sitting, sipping on an iced coffee and scrolling on his phone.

Standing back for a bit, Foolish admired Punz from afar. He decided that Punz looked way too good for someone who had just come off a flight and it was unfair. Even in simple shorts and t-shirt with slightly messy hair, Punz still managed to be the best looking person in the airport.

Taking a deep breath, he finally made his way over to join him at the table and once again the day went by in a blur. Foolish totally lost himself in Punz’s presence. Keeping himself close to him at all times and finding himself staring maybe just a little too much at some points. But it didn’t matter because the absolute joy and happiness the other brings him is worth any questioning looks from their friends.

Soon night fell and Foolish found himself trailing behind Punz as he showed him up to the hotel room. It was the same hotel Foolish was originally meant to stay in, and if he was honest, he was a little jealous that only his room got cancelled because the place was beautiful.

Pausing at the door, Punz turned to look at Foolish. “Okay, before you freak out, I want you to know that there’s only one bed and despite saying it’s a queen size, it’s definitely more like a double.” There was a pink tint on his cheeks but Foolish could bet that was mild compared to the colour burning up on his face.

“I can just take the spare pillow and blanket and sleep on the ground.” Foolish suggested as they walked into the room. Like most hotels there were spare covers, pillows and towels on the top shelf of the wardrobe. Looking at the materials, he was pretty sure he could make some set up with them.

“Stop being stupid and get on the bed.”

“What?” Foolish wasn’t expecting the straight forwardness. Yeah, they had shared a bed or two before but there was at least a little back and forth of offering to sleep somewhere else.

“I’m not making you sleep on the floor, idiot. We can share the bed.” Despite the insult, Punz’s voice was nothing but fond.

“Are you sure?”

“We’ve shared much smaller beds, even that sofa that was tiny. Why wouldn’t I be sure?”

“Those have only been for one night though, we’re here for a week. That’s a whole week of bedsharing. What if you get fed up with me?” Foolish whined, pouting a little.

Punz didn’t say anything back, but stared at Foolish with an unimpressed look.

The silence prompted Foolish to speak up again. “You never know, maybe twenty four hours is the maximum that you can spend around me.”

A dangerous smirk crossed Punz’s face. “You want to test that out? C’mon, get in the bed and we’ll see.”

Foolish flushed red at the taunt. It was what he wanted but he still didn't want to admit it, but here was Punz basically pushing him into giving in.

Was it possible that Punz wanted the same as him?

His friends always got on at him for ‘missing his chance’ and not using his ‘flirting skills’. Was this finally his chance to prove he wasn’t completely oblivious to people’s advances.

“Fine, but you better watch out. I subconsciously cuddle things in my sleep.”

“Would it be better if we cuddled now then? Get it over and done with.” The smirk on Punz’s face took away any sort of innocence that sentence was meant to have.

That bastard knows what he’s doing.

“Maybe it would be.” If Punz was going to play it like this, Foolish had no choice but to play along.

Getting ready for bed in record time, Foolish made his way under the covers, plugging his phone in to charge and turned off his side lamp. Biting his nails, he lay waiting for Punz to join him.

The dumb nervous feeling started coming back now that he was in the room alone. Punz had been in the bathroom for only two minutes and already Foolish had lost his confidence. He was the one that first brought up the cuddling and now here he was, destroying his nails over the idea.

He didn’t even notice Punz come into the room until he was clutching his hands in his own.

“Stop biting your nails, it’s not good for them or your teeth.” Punz pulled his hands until his arms were wrapped around him. Moving his own to circle around Foolish, Punz fell onto his chest.

With Punz back, Foolish found himself relaxing in to the bed. Fixing the covers back around them, Foolish rearranged himself to a more comfortable position before returning his arms back round Punz.

Burying his face into Punz’s hair, he placed a small kiss on the top of his head before he could stop himself. In return, Punz pushed his face further into his chest.

“For the record this is so much better.” Punz mumbled into his chest causing a small vibration through his body.

“Yeah, it’s nice.” Foolish sighed out enjoying the warmth he got from the other.

“Maybe we should cuddle all the time.”

“That would mean we would have to share a bed all the time.” Foolish could feel his heartbeat pick up.

“I wouldn’t mind that.” Punz admitted, hiding his face back into Foolish’s chest.

“Good, we should totally do that then.” The smile on his face only grew as Punz moved his legs to intertwine with his own.

“Only if you keep up the forehead kisses.”

“Deal.”

And once again, with Punz plastered to his side, Foolish had one of the best sleeps of his life.
