Summary
I've felt all along that both sides have fair reasons for fighting the civil war, but I still have to side with the Imperials, as they're more accepting and, as Malthyr says, "cosmopolitan" than the xenophobic, racist Nords. (As a rule, they're generally smarter and less about brute force than the Nords, too.) My female Dragonborn has an Imperial father who was once a Legionnaire himself, and a Nord mother (who is a mage/alchemist), so she's had mixed feelings about the whole mess.
I hated the civil war quests but considered them a necessary evil to get it over and done with, never liked cold, emotionless General Tullius, sympathized with Legate Rikke. The Battle for Windhelm was such a horrendous bloodbath, and Tullius sickened me when he said, "Use my sword - I had it sharpened for the occasion." I chose to use Dragonbane to kill Ulfric - seemed appropriate. And when Ulfric said it would make a better song if the Dragonborn was the one to kill him, I was inspired to write this "ballad" from the viewpoint of a nameless Legionnaire who was there.
I hope someone enjoys this, or that it resonates with someone.
