We're gathered here /we're lined up/weeping in a sunlit room
It was raining on the day of Nancy's funeral. The only ones who attended the funeral were the Byers, the Harringtons, Robin, and Hopper. Inwardly Robin was seething. It should have been her. She was the one who's in the line of fire, but Nancy jumped in front of her. She could still remember the event...
A week prior, The Upside Down...
Robin slipped and stumbled as the three of them ran away from the Creel house. They have successfully burnt Vecna out of existence (she doubted that they permanently killed the telekinetic psychopath) when a swarm of Demobats flew towards them. It's not that big, maybe ten bats at the most.
"Guys, trouble." Robin warned, having been the first to see the creatures.
"What- oh, shit. Come on, let's go!" Nancy yelled. A particularly large Demobat dove towards Robin. Suddenly she found herself on the ground. She looked over her shoulder in time to see Nancy get stabbed on the side, lifted, then thrown towards her direction. .
"NANCY!" She screamed. She tried to help her out, but Nancy stood up, waving her off.
"I'm good. Where's Steve?" Nancy asked. Just then the person in question appeared, the his bag on his back.
"Sorry I bailed. Dustin and Eddie are alive. Nance, what happened? You're bleeding!"
Robin looked at the wound, finding blood slowly but steadily trickling blood.
"Dammit, I said I'm fine. I could use something to stanch the bleeding, though. Got any clean cloths?"
Robin took out the handkerchief she brought along.
"Right. Put pressure on it. Dingus, I think there's a first aid kit in the backpack. I need alcohol, gauze, and bandage."
Steve fished through the contents of the bag, taking out what Robin needed. After she and Steve fixed Nancy, they continued to run towards the trailer where Dustin and Eddie were waiting, both of them a bit worse for wear.
"Finally. Come on; we don't have much time."
Robin snapped back to the present as Mike began the eulogy.
"When I was young, maybe six or seven, I get nightmares sometimes," Mike started, "I sometimes wake up, not knowing that I was screaming. Whenever I do, the first one who goes to my room to comfort me was her. Or if I don't wake up like that, screaming like an idiot, we have an agreement that she allows me to have a sleepover.
"What I'm trying to say is that one of the qualities that Nancy had is that she is kind and reliable. Even if it's not convenient for her, she will help you in whatever way she could. She..."
It was when they reached the trailer and was about to escape the Upside Down when all went sideways. Robin made to grab the rope to hoist herself up when Nancy went down.
"Nancy? Nance, you all right" Steve asked as he and Robin went to her side.
"Yeah, I'm good. I'm-" suddenly she screamed, clutching her wounded side.
"No! Nancy, what's happening?" Robin exclaimed, panicking.
"Hurts. It hurts!" Nancy cried out. Before they can do anything, Nancy began to shake violently before coughing up blood.
"Nancy! Nancy, what is happening?" Robin asked. Nancy then grabbed her hand, eyes shining with tears.
"Robin..." Nancy whimpered, tears falling down her face, "I don't want to go. Please I don't-"
"Shh, shh." Robin said, on the verge of crying herself, "it's OK. I'm here. I won't leave."
"It was..." Nancy began, before coughing up blood. "I was stupid I-"
"No. You were brave, Nancy. So, so brave." Robin choked out, tears streaming down her face as well. "Don't worry; we'll get you out of here."
Nancy laughed weakly. "You're such a terrible liar. It's OK. You can leave me here."
"No. No. Please, don't go." Robin sobbed, shaking her head vehemently. "Don't go. I... I love you."
Nancy reached up and, to the others' (and Robin's as well) shock, kissed Robin on the lips.
"And I you." She replied, voice barely a whisper. Nancy's hand went slack.
"Robin. ROBIN!"
Robin jerked and looked to her right. Steve was looking at her with concern.
"Huh? What?"
"Service is over. Let's go home."
