Work Text:
“Whoa, you look like you didn’t get any sleep last night,” Chimney says when Buck walks into the kitchen.
Buck stops, and glares at him. “That’s because I didn’t,” he grumbles, and storms over to the fridge. “Eddie and I got into another fight last night, and I ended up sleeping on the couch.”
“You have the most uncomfortable couch in the world. You need to get a new one,” Hen speaks up.
“Try telling that to Eddie, or don’t, because he doesn’t fucking listen to anyone,” Buck snaps, and slams the fridge door shut.
“Hey, watch where you're slamming doors, Buckley,” Bobby warns as he walks in as well.
“Sorry Cap,” Buck mumbles, rubbing his eyes tiredly.
“What’s wrong with you?” Bobby asks, not used to seeing the usually cheerful omega so upset.
“Trouble in paradise,” Chimney says, and yelps when Buck throws a plastic fork at him. “Abuse! Abuse! Cap, can I report this to HR?”
“This isn’t funny, Chim. I’m in a crisis and you keep cracking jokes,” Buck snaps.
“Buck, what’s going on?” Bobby asks worriedly, walking over to him.
Buck goes to open his mouth, but he stops when he sees Eddie walking up the stairs, and he just wants to know why everyone is coming up here at the same time. But for once, he’s not happy to see his alpha.
Buck huffs, and makes his way out of the kitchen, and tries walking past Eddie to go downstairs, but Eddie quickly grabs his arm, stopping him. “Buck, wait… can we talk?”
“I think you’ve said everything you needed to say last night,” Buck hisses, pulling his arm back.
“How could I have? You didn’t even let me get a word in before you started shouting,” Eddie hisses back.
“Oh, fuck you, Eddie-!”
“Alright, break it up you two. You two swore not to let your relationship get in the way of your job, remember?” Bobby finally speaks up before things get too heated between the couple.
Buck looks up when the fire alarm starts going off, and he sighs in relief. He glances at Eddie once before making his way down the stairs without saying another word.
Eddie blinks as everyone else starts making their way down as well, each person looking at him, and he already knows that it’s going to be a long shift today.
Buck ignores Eddie the whole time they’re on a call, only interacting with him when he needs to.
“I just don’t understand it,” Buck says when he’s helping Hen take care of a patient. “We’ve been dating for over a year, and we’ve known each other even longer than that. Don’t you think that’s plenty of time?”
“I don’t know, Buck. Maybe Eddie has his reasons,” Hen says as she works on the patient. “I mean, things didn’t exactly end well with Shannon. He’s probably worried the same thing will happen with you.”
“I have trauma from past relationships too, but I don’t let it affect our relationship,” Buck grumbles.
Hen stops and looks over at Buck with raised eyebrows. “Really, Buck?”
“I don’t,” Buck argues, and he glances down at the patient. “I’m gonna wrap your leg. This is gonna hurt.” The woman just grunts in response, and Buck takes that as a sign to continue.
“I’m just saying, Buck. You didn’t tell Eddie you loved him until like six months into your relationship because of Taylor,” Hen says, and frowns slightly when Buck winces at the mention of his ex.
“Hen, Taylor was a terrible alpha who made me feel like shit all the time. You can’t fault me for that one,” Buck argues. “Besides, I’m totally over my exes. I’m just trying to focus on my future with Eddie, but… it’s kind of impossible when he doesn’t want to take the next steps in our relationship.”
Buck continues ranting to Hen as she finishes with the patient and they lift her into the ambulance.
“Sounds like you could use some therapy,” the woman says before the ambulance doors are shut.
Buck scoffs, and glares when Hen starts laughing. “Hen! Stop laughing at my pain!”
“I’m sorry, Buck,” Hen says, wiping at her eyes. “Maybe you could use some therapy.”
Buck throws his arms up in the air. “All of you are completely useless to me!” He whines, before storming over to the firetruck, and jumping inside. He sits down in his usual spot. He looks up and freezes when he sees Eddie jumping in as well, but Eddie doesn’t say anything to him as he sits down in his spot as well.
Buck quickly looks away from him, trying not to let himself get emotional over this, because he and Eddie never fight like this. Sure, they have their fair share of arguments, but every couple does.
Buck just wants Eddie to mark him, to make them official.
Eddie rejecting the idea makes Buck feel like he’s doing something wrong.
When they get back to the firehouse, Buck sends a text to Maddie, asking her if he can stay the night, because he doesn’t think he can go home when he and Eddie are fighting.
Of course Maddie says yes.
Buck is in the locker room at the end of his shift when Eddie walks in as well.
Buck bites his lip as he watches Eddie get into his locker. “I’m staying at Maddie’s tonight,” he says.
Eddie stops what he’s doing, and looks over at Buck. “What?”
“I’m staying at Maddie’s,” Buck says. “I… I think we need some space right now.”
Eddie shuts his locker, and stares at Buck. “Are you leaving?” he asks. “Because if you are, just say it.”
“What?” Buck asks, frowning, and quickly shakes his head. “No, of course I’m not leaving, Eddie. I was only planning on staying at her house tonight. I really think we both need a day to ourselves to think about what we both want for the future. Besides, Chimney wouldn’t let me stay any longer I’m afraid.”
“Buck,” Eddie says, and walks over to him. “I want to bond with you-”
“But?” Buck finishes for him, his voice filled with sadness.
“No buts. I want to bond with you,” Eddie says, and Buck can’t help but let his eyes light up, because he’s been waiting for Eddie to say those words. “I just-” He lets out a sigh. “I’m just scared, with everything that happened with Shannon. We were so fucking happy in the beginning, and then things got bad so fast, and… I don’t want that to happen with you. That’s why I want to take things slow, not because I don’t want to bond with you. I would want nothing more than to bond with you.”
Buck takes a deep breath. “Eddie, you don’t have to be so scared,” he whispers. “I’m not going anywhere. I’m in this for the long run. I’m with you and Christopher. I don’t want to be with anyone else.”
“I believe you when you say that, but please… give me some time,” Eddie whispers, gently cupping Buck’s cheek. “And I promise when we do bond, I’ll make sure it’s worth it.”
Buck nods, leaning against Eddie’s touch.
Eddie leans forward and kisses Buck with all the passion he has in him. Buck melts into the kiss instantly. The kiss lasts for a moment before Eddie pulls away. “Are you still going?”
Buck sighs, and grabs a hold of Eddie’s hand. “I think so, but just for tonight,” he says.
“Promise?” Eddie asks, squeezing Buck’s hand.
“I promise,” Buck whispers. “I’ll see you on shift tomorrow. Give Christopher a kiss goodnight for me?”
“Of course, baby. I won’t be able to read him his bedtime story as well as you do though,” Eddie says.
Buck grins. “You’ve got to get the voices right,” he says. He kisses Eddie once more. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Eddie whispers back, and looks over when the door opens. It’s Chimney.
“Oh, thank God. Have you two finally kissed and made up?” Chimney asks hopefully.
“Of course we have. Buck can never stay mad at me for long,” Eddie jokes, grinning at Buck.
Buck glares at him. “Yeah, keep it up, and we’ll see about that,” he says, before letting go of Eddie’s hand. “Oh, Chim. Maddie said I could stay the night tonight. I’m gonna beat your ass at Uno again.”
Chimney scoffs. “Oh, whatever. You’re so going down Buckley!”
Buck smirks, and grabs his duffle bag. He looks over at Eddie once more. “See you tomorrow. Love you,” he says, before finally walking out of the locker room.
“Love you too, Buck!” Chimney shouts, earning laughter from Eddie.
