Chapter Text
A marine corporal was waiting for Sam Carter when she came through the Stargate on P2J-573.
“Major Carter,” he said as he approached her with a casual salute. “I’m Corporal Dean Winchester, here to escort you to base camp.”
“I didn’t realize I needed an escort,” Sam said.
“Yeah, well, a couple locals have gone missing around here so we’re being extra cautious,” the corporal explained.
Sam nodded and said, “Well, lead the way, Corporal.”
“You got it,” Winchester said and turned on his heel, heading down a well-worn path through the forest. Sam followed along.
After a few minutes Sam’s curiosity got the best of her and she asked, “How many?”
“Hmm?” Winchester replied.
“How many of the locals have gone missing?” Sam asked.
“Two,” Winchester answered. “A father and daughter went foraging 3 days ago and haven’t been seen since.” He pointed out a tree by the path and said, “Take a right at the gnarly tree.” They turned right and walked another hundred or so yards into the woods when Sam began to hear sounds of the camp.
“We’ve got all your equipment set up so you can get right to work,” Corporal Winchester said.
“Great.” Sam said as the camp came into view. She spotted the research station in the far corner of the camp and made a beeline there, leaving the corporal in her wake.
Sam spent a few hours calibrating sensors and ensuring the readings were being recorded correctly. Checking her watch, she decided to break for lunch when she heard a distant, horrified scream and a burst of gunfire. Sam bolted out of her chair, grabbed her P-90 and rushed outside.
There was a crowd gathering by the mess tent, so Sam made her way in that direction. As she approached, she could hear Dr. Lee babbling somewhat incoherently. She blinked in mild shock when she saw the doctor up close. His shirt had a splattering of blood on it.
“He was there!” Dr. Lee said, pointing to a vacant spot outside the tent, “Lieutenant Stephens was right there and then…then he was gone! And that thing!”
Sam opened her mouth to ask a question, but Corporal Winchester beat her to the punch. “What thing?” He asked.
Dr. Lee shook his head and said, “I don’t…I don’t know. I’ve never seen anything like it. It was big and it had these…these arms that-” here, the man swung his own arms about jerkily. “And it just…took him! It happened so fast I couldn’t-”
Corporal Winchester laid a hand on Dr. Lee’s shoulder, “Hey, take it easy. Just breathe, alright?”
“Hey!” Colonel O’Neill barked from the edge of the crowd. He wove in between the scientists and soldiers. “What the hell is going on here?”
“Oh, I think I’m gonna be sick,” Dr. Lee said and bent over at the waist.
“Not on my boots, you’re not,” Corporal Winchester said, deftly maneuvering the other man to face the opposite direction.
O’Neill swiveled his head to Sam and asked, “Carter?”
Sam gestured at Dr. Lee and said, “He says something took Lieutenant Stephens.”
“Something?” Colonel O’Neill repeated.
“It was…It was,” Dr. Lee said faintly. “It was some kind of monster.”
