Uncanceled Plans

Summary:

Luz has something to say to Amity, but she has a bit of a feathery preoccupation.

Notes:

Another request! I might come back to this someday on my own time because it just feels a little cramped in the 500 word request format. It could do better with a bit of room to breathe. But that's a problem for when I have time. I take requests in the comments and on Tumblr. Same @. Yadda, yadda. If you've been here before, you know that. And to those of you who have been here before, thanks for coming back. I always notice the same names popping up in my daily kudos report. Your support means the world to me <3

Work Text:

“She’s just so pretty!” Luz cried, running her hands through her hair and gripping at her roots in exasperation.

“Calm down, kid,” Eda whispered, gently pulling her arm towards her and plucking off glossy brown feathers. “You’re really riling yourself up right now. Maybe you should go lay down? I could just tell her you’re sick and that your plans fell through. There’s no shame in that.”

The suggestion of calling off her plans with Amity only made more feathers sprout from Luz’s skin. “Eda, I think you’re really awesome, but canceling plans last minute is an extremely Eda thing to do,” she groaned, pulling her hand out of her hair and taking a deep breath. “You know what, I’m just going to try and talk to the curse. Maybe if I’m nice enough to it, it’ll let me have a normal day!”

Eda nodded slowly. She at least admired Luz’s determination. “Alright, kid,” she said, giving her her arm back and stopping her plucking. “Good luck.”

Taking another breath, Luz closed her eyes and tried to speak to the little beast living inside of her subconscious.

Hooty’s shrill voice soured the mood near instantly. “Oh, hey, Amity!”

Luz squeaked. “Hurry up, hurry up, please...,” she whispered, even more feathers sprouting, starting to make their way up her face.

“Luz and I were going to hang out today,” Amity’s voice came from the other side of the door.

A bead of sweat ran down Luz’s forehead as she practically begged her curse to let her feel normal today.

“Oh, how fun!” Hooty swung the front door wide open, leaving Luz and Eda out in the open for Amity to see. “Hi, Luz! Hi, Eda!”

Amity gasped upon seeing Luz’s curse acting up so badly.

“Luz!” She cried, rushing over, but hesitating to touch her.

Peeking up at her with one blackened sclera, Luz tried to force a nervous chuckle out of herself. “Hi, Amity...,” she said softly. Her cheeks and ears were screaming warm red.

“Are you going to be okay? Eda, do you know how to help this?” Amity asked, looking up to Eda and very lightly placing her hands on Luz’s shoulders.

“I’ll go get some elixir. You’re gonna be alright, Luz,” Eda assured her, ruffling up her hair and heading to her room to hopefully put an end to Luz’s discomfort.

“It’s alright!” Luz cried, snaking her hands onto Amity’s wrists. “I-... Listen, Amity...”

“You said you wanted to ask me something, right?” Amity asked, her voice dripping with concern and a blush growing on the bridge of her nose.

Luz shook her head quickly. “Amity Blight...”

She let out a guttural shout and stepped back, a pair of mottled brown wings sprouting from her back and talons extending from her toes. Her negotiations with the curse had certainly led... somewhere.

“Amity Blight, will you be my girlfriend!?”

Amity felt bad for staring.

“I-...,” she stammered, her face going cherry red. “I thought you’d never ask!”

She jumped up and settled in Luz’s new, fluffy feathers like it was the most natural thing in the world.

“You’re such a cool harpy girlfriend...”
