On October 29th, Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington traveled from London to Las Vegas because they wanted to celebrate Halloween, American style. It was a spur of the moment decision, which was not uncommon for the couple, but they found great accommodations as always.
They headed out to a costume store looking for a couples costume, when Penelope came across Jack and Sally costumes from the movie "Nightmare Before Christmas" and exclaimed, "That's it! This is perfect!"
Colin was confused, as he had never seen the movie before and didn't really want to be a skeleton. "Uh, I think we should keep looking. Maybe we could be Ketchup and Mustard?"
"Colin Bridgerton! You have to see that this is the perfect costume for us! You are literally Jack."
"No, I think we should come back later. Maybe they'll have more things tomorrow?" Colin suggested as he started to walk out of the shop.
More confused, Penelope had decided that he must watch the movie with her right then. So, when they returned to their AirBnB, that's just what they did. She sat him down and made him watch it. He had to see that those were going to be the best costumes for them. After the movie ended, she stared at him, waiting.
He didn't say anything at first but then posed a question to her, asking why she was so adamant about the costumes. Even though he saw it immediately, he let her explain to him the similarities between their relationship and the two characters. The fierceness in her eyes made him grin. He loved her face when she was determined like this!
"Colin, Jack is just like you! He travelled to other Halloween towns, just like you travelled all over the globe. He was fixated on Christmas, just like you get fixated on things that you love. He also only saw Sally as a friend, for a while, just like…"
"Yeah, okay, I get it," Colin stopped her before she could say the words, "I'm like Jack. And I'm sorry, again, for being blind. Now, what about Sally?"
"Well, obviously, Sally is a redhead, like me," Pen smirks, "but also, she's been invisible, the way I was in London. Except to you, of course. And you could easily compare Dr. Finkelstein with my mother."
"Huh. You definitely have a good argument, Pen." Colin said, knowing full well that she wasn't going to let go of those costumes. He had known it the moment she started the movie. He smirked at her and said, "Let's go back to the costume shop. I think you're right."
"Wait. Did you-," placing her hand on his forehead, " just say that I was right? Without an argument or sex? Are you feeling alright?"
He laughed and took her hand, pulling it away from his face before lacing his fingers through hers.
"Let's just go before I change my mind, Sally." He said, winking at her. "I believe Halloween won't be complete until you become the Pumpkin Queen."
She grinned at him and let him pull her out of the room.
"I wouldn't be complete without my Pumpkin King," she said, pulling their laced hands to her mouth so she could kiss his knuckles. "Jack."
