Tommy was usually a very calm person— this is a lie — but with Wilbur fidgeting with his fingers, he was going to lose his shit. Something about the contact was offputting, usually, when Wilbur would touch him, Tommy would revel in his brother’s cool hands.
“Wil,” Tommy spoke softly, glancing at the man at his side who was unnaturally quiet. “Wilbur,” he repeated louder when he was met with silence. He turned his body completely to stare at his friend now.
There was something wrong. Wilbur’s shoulders were too tense, the still air between the two harboured an uncomfortable weight.
Tommyinnit is anything but stupid, he was well aware of the fact that everything was on the verge of breaking. He just happened to be unaware that his friend— his brother nearly— would be the catalyst.
“Are you okay, Wilbur?” The smile he received in response was too tightly drawn, nothing like the soft, fond ones the blonde was used to.
“I’m fine Toms, just nervous I guess.” Which was a fair excuse for the brunette’s behaviour, Tommy was finally meeting his family ( officially ; the light stalking Techno did in the beginning when Wilbur would rant about the boy every day does not count) it was bound to be nerve-racking.
“Don’t worry so much big man! I’m a fucking delight, they’re going to adore me, much like all the women that swoon over me.” The boisterous blond considered it a job well done when Wilbur’s tight shoulders relaxed a bit and the man let out a soft laugh.
“Of course sunshine, how could I possibly forget, your charming, not at all loud or annoying personality will definitely make this all okay,” the brunette said in a sarcastic tone.
Tommy smiled slightly at his brother's willingness to banter despite how obviously anxious he was. “You know, Wilbur most people find me annoying at first.”
“Shut up gremlin.” They had continued to walk by now, falling into a comfortable pace. The uncomfortable silence was replaced with occasional banter. Their words come to an abrupt halt when Wilbur leads Tommy up the steps of the largest house in the neighbourhood.
Wilbur, not bothering to knock because he lives here, opens the door and kicks his shoes off in the entry way. Tommy follows suit, placing his dirty shoes neatly next to Wilbur’s prestine ones. “Dad! Techno! We’re here!” Wilbur shouts before sparing an apologetic glance towards the blonde next to him– who had flinched at the shift in volume.
Footsteps are heard marching down the stairs and Wilbur places a grounding hand on Tommy’s shoulder. The first at the bottom is— who Tommy assumes to be— Techno. With long pink hair and muddy brown eyes covered slightly by square reading glasses. Phil, who is much shorter than Tommy had imagined despite Wilbur always telling him how small his dad was (Wilbur was a lying giant), is not far behind Techno.
“Welcome mate,” Phil greets ushering Tommy into a hug that somehow isn’t awkward despite Tommy’s usual adversion of touch from people he didn’t really know. After they’ve seperated, Phil speaks again, “we’ve heard so much about you! It’s nice to finally be able to put a face to the name.”
Tommy smiles before nodding politely at Phil’s statement. This is when Wilbur, the massive dickhead, breaks out in laughter at Tommy’s awkward behaviour. “You’re worse than Techno,” he says cheerfully and Tommy squawks in indignation as Techno lets out a monotone ‘bruh.’
“Are you hungry, sunshine?” Wilbur asks after a few seconds, not waiting for an answer before draggin Tommy towards the dining room. Phil and Techno join after not long with plates piled with food.
Tommy gawks— he’s pretty sure he has never seen so much food in the entirety of his life. “Where’s the bathroom,” he asks, suddenly overwhelmed. Wilbur’s family seem so nice— which is a culture shock in itself, as a street rat, Tommy is used to being treated like trash— but their also very well off which is even more offputting to him.
“Upstairs, third door on the left,” Phil answers with a smile not missing a beat. Tommy thanks him breifly, ignoring the look of concern on Wilburs face before rushing up the stairs. He takes a few deep breaths to ground himself before counting the doors.
When he gets to the third door— on the right — he opens it, but instead of the luxurous bathroom he expects he’s meet with a strange sight. There’s a pile of blankets and other fabrics in the middle of the room. It concaves in the middle with slight walls that make Tommy want to crawl in it and take the longest nap he’s ever had.
“What are you doing in here, Tommy?” A voice from behind asks, interupting the blonde before he has more of a chance to look at the room. Tommy looks away from the strange pile— nest?— and towards the door where Techno is standing.
A strange feeling falls over the blonde as Techno stares at him. “Got lost,” Tommy says though it comes out as more of a question. Two other footfalls could be heard approaching the room. Suddenly the feeling of dread he had at the beginning of the night when he was walking here with Wilbur comes back in tenfold.
When he looks behind Techno, he can see Wilbur and Phil at the door. One thing catches his attention though, Phils eyes— Which he swears had previously been as blue as his own— are now a startling red. Looking back to Techno, who is no longer waering his glasses, Tommy sees that his muddy brown eyes are actually a blood red without the glass blocking them.
“Oh,” The blonde dumbly spit out. Two pairs of red eyes bore into him as if he was a hot meal- which, technically, he was but he figures that there was more to this than that. Wilbur took a step forward, and in turn, Tommy took a step back.
“Tommy,” his brother friend attempted to console the— what he assumed to be— panicked boy.
“Vampires, of course, you guys are vampires, yeah no of course .” Tommy was mostly muttering to himself as he glanced away from Wilbur and towards the door that Techno was currently guarding. “Wait,” The youngest started as he let his brain try to make sense of the bat shit situation he had found himself in. “This is Syndicate territory,” he said, garnering nods in response.
The Syndicate were known for many things. They were mainly known for being cruel and bloodthirsty, but they were also known for being highly territorial. Any vampires that entered their land— intentionally or not— were made an example.
There was a very little chance that the vampires standing in front of him weren’t the Syndicate, seeing as they were still alive— poor wording but the idea still stands. “It’s okay, Toms. We’re not going to hurt you,” Wilbur comforted as soon as he saw the puzzle pieces click in place for the blonde.
“Yeah well your coven is historically known for brutal murders, but as far as I know there aren’t tales of you spending so much time to instill trust with a human before killing them so I'm not too scared,” Tommy said and the vampires’ eyes widened. “But if you did it just to fuck with me then that’s fucked up.” He turned his gaze towards Wilbur. “We’re like family and if you're going to kill me please do it quickly and if not that’s poggers. I’d be really glad to not die at the hands of someone I think was my brother at some point.”
Wilbur takes a few steps forward and Tommy doesn’t move. “I’d never hurt you, dearheart,” he says and something dark warms in Tommy’s heart. To know that someone so cruel promises to not hurt him. “You’re my baby brother.”
And Tommy practically beams. The fact that their relationship stays unchanged despite the giant bombshell dropped, it’s nice. “None of us would hurt you, treasure,” Techno pipes up and the dark feeling grows.
“What do you want then? If you don’t want to hurt me?” Tommy asks and Wilbur smiles in response.
“You.” Wilbur responds simply as if it were the most obvious thing and Tommy cocks his head in confusion. “We want you, my darling little brother, to be ours. Forever .” It truly is wonderful.
“You want me?” Tommy asks even though he knows full well as the three stare at him with possessive glints in their eyes. Wilbur nods. “If… if I’m yours, does that mean that you get to be mine?” His question is met with a rumble that seems to be coming from Wilbur’s chest, almost like a purr— it’s comforting.
Wilbur’s pupils are expanded like a cat’s and Tommy can’t help but stare with vague curiosity as the man takes a step forward and pulls the blonde in for a hug. “Of course, moonbeam. You’d be ours and just as equally we’d be yours,” Phil answers when their eyes meet over Wilbur's shoulder.
“I think I’d like that,” Tommy says, leaning into Wilbur’s touch. “Mine,” he whispers to himself— mostly to test it out— but he can tell Wilbur hears it by the way the purrs grow louder. “What now?" he asks the two vampires who were purring a touch starved kitten who had been pet for the first time in it's life.
Techno— who Tommy still didn't have a great read on but he was still Tommy's— stepped forward. “Now." A dramatic pause because Wilbur and Techno were related of course they would both have the cringe theatre kid gene. “We turn you."
Tommy tensed slightly and Wilbur's hold on him tightened. Maybe Tommy had gotten too caught up in the idea of being theirs and vice versa to truly understand what it meant to be theirs. “You won’t feel anything, not really,” Wilbur mumbles from where his face is tucked into the blonde’s neck. “You’ll sleep for most of the turning process.”
“Okay,” Tommy says because it’s family for an eternity— it nice and warm and a comforting opportunity that the growing monster inside of him was quick to jump on. Phil smiles— all teeth but not in a cruel way— before pulling him out of Wilbur’s grasp.
He cups Tommy’s face and the boy can’t help but lean into the cold touch. “Precious boy,” Phil coos before pulling away, Tommy mourns the loss but moves on quickly as Phil grabs his hand and pulls him towards the giant nest of blankets in the middle of the room.
Phil situates the two of them and the others are quick to follow. With them all staring at him, he can't help but feel special— like something to marvel. He looks down in embarrassment but Phil is quick to tilt it back up, exposing his neck.
Tommy's eyes widen because the concept of being seventeen for the rest of his life is finally setting in, but its too late. He feels a sharp sting and his eyes droop immediately.
His new family watch with bated breath as their fledgling falls into a restless slumber.
