“Hey, Kiddo?” Zu-san’s voice was soft in Bashira’s ear. Hi-san was still sleeping and Zu-san said that Hi-san didn’t sleep very good. Bashira linked her arms around Zu-san’s neck and grinned when he laughed at her just hanging from him. Both Hi-san and Zu-san were fun to climb on, but Zu-san didn’t ever trip no matter what Bashira did. “Do you want to meet Hitoshi’s family today?” Biting her lip, Bashira clung just a bit tighter to Zu-san.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to meet them, but people weren’t always nice and she didn’t like mean people. If Zu-san and Hi-san liked them… then they had to be nice, right? Zu-san’s hand scooped under Bashira’s leg and he swung her over his shoulder so that she was hanging on his back and could hold better. “D- do, um, I h-ha-have t- to?” Linking her feet around Zu-san’s tummy, Bashira held tight as he moved around the kitchen grabbing bowls and spoons for breakfast.
“Nope! It’s completely up to you, Kiddo.” Tucking her head into Zu-san’s neck, Bashira rolled over both ideas. She knew that Hi-san would smile really nice if she met them, but if they didn’t maybe they could watch the fairy movie again. Bashira really liked that one, especially the puffy flying pet. He was really cute. If they did go though, Hi-san always braided her hair to leave the house. She really liked when he did that. Maybe Zu-san would watch the fairy movie with her after seeing Aya-san tomorrow.
“Mmm, yo- you an- and Hi-s- Hi-san wi- will b- be the- the- there?” Biting her tongue harshly, Bashira tried to swallow down the cry. She was trying , but the words were hard and R was a dumb letter. It was bad and felt wrong on her tongue. She really didn’t like R.
“Absolutely, Kiddo. We’ll be there the whole time.” Zu-san knelt down and let Bashira climb onto her chair to eat the oatmeal. This time he put honey and walnuts in it. Her favorite so far was the soft orange fruit pieces he used a few days ago, but she liked the walnuts and honey too. Scooping a big bite into her mouth, Bashira let the food roll around as she swallowed.
It was weird to think about how long she had been with Zu-san and Hi-san. If someone had told her two months ago that she would have warm food and kisses and swishy dresses she would have cried and called you mean. It wasn’t nice to make fun of people, but she was here. Bashira was here with her Zu-san and her Hi-san. She had swishy dresses and pretty hair. Soft pajama pants, a warm bed and nice food. Plus , she got all the kisses and cuddles she wanted.
Making sure her mouth was empty, Hi-san told her about that , Bashira nodded her head. “I- I’ll m- meet- t th- them.” Zu-san’s fingers scratched over her head and he smiled really soft and pretty as Bashira ate another big bite. She liked when he did that because it always made her chest feel all warm. Zu-san was the nicest ever . Except maybe Hi-san. He was the nicest too.

Bashira had a tight hold on Zu-san and Hi-san’s hand. The orange dress swished happily against her legs and her braid thumped happily against her back, but Bashira was nervous. She was right, when Hi-san heard that Bashira was okay with meeting his family he had smiled really nice and it made her feel warm. If Hi-san and Zu-san said it was okay, then they were nice people. They had to be. Zu-san and Hi-san were nice and they wouldn’t make her see not nice people. She knew that. Aya-san told her that if she didn’t know if someone was nice then she could ask Zu-san or Hi-san. Aya-san was right about a lot of things and she was nice. If she was scared she was supposed to tell one of them, but she wasn’t scared just nervous. Was she supposed to tell someone if she was nervous?
Tugging on Hi-san’s hand, Bashira tried not to chew on her tongue too much. Aya-san said that wasn’t good and she was supposed to chew on the necklace, but she didn’t want to until after she asked Hi-san. Both Hi-san and Zu-san stopped and pulled Bashira to the side of the sidewalk so she could talk to them. “What’s up, Princess?” Puffing up her cheeks, Bashira huffed out a breath. Aya-san said she can ask Hi-san and Zu-san anything. She said it was okay to tell them whatever she wanted. They wouldn’t be mad at her.
“Th- They’- They’re n- nic- nice?” Zu-san hummed just a bit before she scooped up Bashira under her arms and swung her up onto his arm. It was fun and the air made her giggle because it blew her dress and tickled her legs. Plus the new height made her tummy flip really fast.
“Well, Kiddo, I think they are. Hizashi, Hi-san’s Pops, is very excited and happy. He’s always going on about the picture we send him of you. His favorite was the one with the cookies you and Hi-san made.” Hi-san reached out and squeezed Bashira’s ankle lightly with a soft smile.
“My dad, Shouta, he’s a bit of a grump. He doesn’t always look the happiest, but he’s a big softie. I can promise that once he meets you he’s going to spoil you rotten.” Digging her fingers into Zu-san’s hair, Bashira held on as they started walking again. Zu-san and Hi-san were each holding onto her and she could see so much . Not as much as when Hi-san held her, but still way more than normal. “They’re going to love you, Bashira. And if they’re mean then we’ll leave. If you get tired, we’ll leave. If you just don’t want to be there anymore then we’ll leave. This is just for fun and if you aren’t having fun then we can wait. Does that sound okay, Princess?”
Humming, Bashira nodded her head and hung on tight to Zu-san and Hi-san. It wasn’t much longer before they were stepping inside and Zu-san was putting Bashira on the ground. She quickly grabbed onto Hi-san’s hand with both of hers. The place was big and she didn’t want to lose Hi-san like they did at the Mall. Zu-san had thought it was funny that Hi-san got lost, but Bashira didn’t like it, so Hi-san had to hold her hand when they were in a big place.
Zu-san let her press the button in the elevator and she really liked how it light up blue. The one to Aya-san’s office lit up yellow. She didn’t notice until Zu-san tapped her chin, that she had been chewing on her lip, but Zu-san didn’t look upset. He just pulled out the necklace for her to chew on and scratched her head lightly, so that he didn’t mess up her braid. “It’ll be okay, Bashira. If you want to leave at any point, then just tell us okay, Kiddo? We love you and just want you to have fun.” Chewing the pink flower, Bashira nodded and tried to blink away the tears in her eyes. She really liked when Zu-san and Hi-san said they loved her because she loved them too.
Letting go of Hi-san for a moment, Bashira gave Zu-san a big hug and rubbed her face over his side. It always felt really nice when she did that and neither Zu-san or Hi-san minded. Plus she had seen them rub their faces together after she was supposed to be asleep, so she figured it was fine. When the elevator dinged, Bashira grabbed onto Hi-san with both hands again. He wasn’t allowed to get lost ever again.
Hi-san smiled at her before they moved out of the elevator. Bashira knew that he thought she was being silly, but she didn’t care. Hi-san was the best and he wasn’t allowed to leave. Zu-san knocked on the first door with three knocks and Bashira could hear someone running around behind the door. Zu-san and Hi-san gave each other a funny look before laughing. Bashira laughed with them because it was always funny when Hi-san laughed, his shoulders shook and made Bashira’s arms shake. She really liked when he laughed.
The door popped open and a tall yellow man smiled really bright, brighter than Zu-san , and bounced a little on his toes. He was kind of funny and Bashira liked how happy he was. “Hito! Izuku! Come in, come in. I want to meet my grandbaby.” The yellow man’s eyes were a light green. Not the same as Zu-san’s, but kind of like the crunchy vegetable that Hi-san liked to cook with noodles.
Hi-san laughed again, but shuffled them forward. When Zu-san finished pulling off his own shoes, he turned to Bashira with a nice smile. “Do you want to try getting your shoes off?” Bashira eyed the clicky straps on her black shoes for a moment. She had been practicing putting her shoes on and taking them off, but she wasn’t sure if she could do it and there were new people around. Chewing down on the flower, Bashira shook her head. Zu-san kept smiling and nodded his head once. “Okay, Kiddo. I’m going to undo the straps and then I need you to step out okay?”
Hi-san squeezed her hand lightly and Bashira let the flower fall out of her mouth. Hi-san and Zu-san wouldn’t let her be around mean people. She was fine. It was going to be fine because Hi-san was holding her hand and Zu-san was smiling nicely. With her shoes tucked between Hi-san’s boots and Zu-san’s red shoes, Bashira wiggled her toes. The floor here felt different than the floor at home, but it didn’t feel bad .
Hi-san led Bashira into a bigger room with a squishy looking grey couch. The yellow man was sitting on the couch next to another man who looked like a pirate. He even had the eyepatch! Zu-san went and sat in one of the big brown chair, but Hi-san sat on the floor in front of Zu-san instead of in one of the other chairs. Bashira’s eyes flicked between the two before she climbed up into the chair with Zu-san. She still held onto Hi-san, but she wanted to be higher than the floor.
Everyone talked for a bit and let Bashira just watch them. She figured out that the pirate man was Hi-san’s dad, Shouta, and the yellow man was his Pops, Hizashi. Bashira thought that Zu-san was totally right about HIzashi. He was loud, but he seemed really happy. She liked him a lot.
She liked Shouta too. He looked grumpy when people were looking at him, but if everyone looked away then he smiled all soft and nice. Hi-san did the same thing sometimes. When it happened again, Bashira couldn’t help giggling. His dark eyes flicked over to her and he stuck out his tongue just a bit while looking at his nose. It looked really funny. Her shoulders shook and her tummy hurt from trying to laugh quietly so she just laughed out loud. Zu-san ended up laughing with her which made Hi-san laugh.
Bashira liked Hi-san’s family. They were funny and nice.
