Work Text:
The chopper lifted off the ground signaling the end of his time in Korea. Henry looked down at the people he'd loved for all of his years in the army. He never
thought he'd miss anything about the army or the damned Korean War, but by God he was going to miss these people, all of them; Hawkeye, Klinger, Margaret...
even Frank. He missed them already; Radar most of all.
He sure did love that kid. It hit him right in the heart to hear Radar say that he thought of him like a father. Henry had kids of his own, of course, including a son
that he'd never met, not to mention a wife he missed terribly and a cat. Yes, he even missed the cat. What color was it again? And what in the heck was his or her
name?
He wondered what color the living room was. If, in fact, Lorraine had really decorated the place. He shuddered, thinking of the horror that awaited him at home.
His eyes moved back to the figures on the ground that were getting smaller and smaller. He knew that he'd never see them again, unless it was at a reunion or
something, but that could be years away. The war was still going on and he was going home. He wondered what Lorraine would think about his new suit. That
nutty Hawkeye and Trapper. Where in the heck was he supposed to wear a pinstriped suit? It wasn't exactly regulation but who cared? He was going home!
He smiled at Klinger's tiny image, who stood out like a sore thumb in his sliver dress and tall fruit hat. The new CO would give him a Section 8 for sure when he
saw Klinger in that getup.
His eyes landed on Radar who leaned against Hawkeye. He hoped the kid would be all right. What was he, crazy? Of course the kid would be all right.
He gave one last wave and the chopper turned around, lifting higher into the air. Soon he'd be on a plane to Illinois.
Home.
