You take a deep breath as your mind begins to wake, the sound of rain dancing across the window threatening to pull you back into a deep slumber. You feel the weight of your lover’s arm on top of you, your fingers still loosely intertwined. You feel the pressure of his sleeping form against your back, his chest rising and falling against you with each steady breath. A soft smile tugs at your lips; you’ve been together for a while now, but every day you still can’t believe how lucky you are to be his.
Your joints beg you to move, and you oblige, stretching your body as you turn over, wrapping your arms around your partner. He responds by tightening his grip on you, and you crack your eyes open a little to meet his. You’re met with his beautiful brown and green eyes looking down at you, a sleepy smile plastered on his face.
“Mornin’ darlin’,” says Barney, his voice deep and croaky from sleep.
Any time he says ‘darlin’’ in that southern drawl of his, it sends your heart racing, and this morning is no exception. There’s just something about the way he says it that makes you feel so warm.
“You sleep alright?”
You answer with a muffled “mhm” as you nuzzle into his chest, pulling him closer – partially just because you love him, and partially to hide how flustered you are. Not that he wasn’t already fully aware of this.
He chuckles against you and plants a soft kiss on your head, and you hold him even tighter. He brings one hand to the back of your head, slowly and gently scratching it the way he knows you love. You swear one of these days you’re going to explode from how giddy he makes you.
You lay like this for a while, the sound of his breathing coupled with the rain gently bringing you back to sleep. You notice that Barney has gone back to sleep too, as his arm relaxes on top of you, and his breathing slows and steadies once again. You smile contentedly, and gradually give yourself to back into sleep yourself.
