Chapter 1: The Guard

Chapter Text

The young man stood tall in front of the Feu silently waiting for him to talk, when the most powerful man in the kingdom called, you listened to what he had to say.

“The public has been notified of my son’s coronation on Yule.” The king eyed him. “I trust that you know what to do.”

“Yes, your highness.” The man bowed. “I will personally attend to the security of the prince.”

"I am truly sorry about pulling you away from your training early, but I was left with no choice." The Feu said with a tired smile.

"It's no trouble at all, your majesty. My training was already expected to end before Yule after all."

The ticking of the grandfather clock in the king’s study was the only sound in the room as the royal considered his next words carefully, eyes never leaving the young man standing in front of him.

“By all accounts, my son is the perfect heir to the throne. But he is stubborn and he has too much of me and my husband in him. He has sent away all his guards and he refuses to be put under watch. However, he has conceded under one condition-” The royal sighed in frustration before leveling the young man with another stare. “-that I send you, Yin.”

For a second, there was a look of shock that passed through the young man’s face before he schooled it back to his usual stoic expression.

“You do not have to worry, your highness. I will make sure that the prince will not be harmed in any way.”

“That is not what I am worried about.” The king chuckled ruefully making the young man tilt his head in confusion. “You know my son better than anyone, he is more than capable of taking care of himself but you also know that he is not the type to ask for things on a whim.”

“I can’t say that I know him better than anyone else, your highness.” Yin laughed lightly.

“Then you are blind.” The king hid a laugh before turning serious. “He has my husband’s cunning mind and it is the other thing he has asked from us that I am more worried about."
