War opened his eyes the next day with a big smile, he snuggled closer to the warmth wrapped around his frame and leaned up to kiss the other man's jaw.
"Wake up, it's christmas eve!" He whispered and the other man groaned, only wrapping his arms around him tighter in response, making him whine in protest. "Yin!"
"Can't we just stay in bed all day?" Yin asked with his eyes closed, tangling their limbs and burying his face in War's hair. "I can think of a few things we can do without getting up."
He laughed, loud and bright, and poked Yin's side with a finger, making the other man giggle. "No, we have a duty to be that disgustingly adorable couple on Christmas."
Yin pulls away and looks down at him with a faux serious face. "You're right."
They break out in laughter as War slowly disentangles himself from the bed, sitting up and avoiding Yin's hands that were reaching out for him again.
"Nice try." War said with a smirk, successfully getting out of bed and walking towards the bathroom. "I'll go take a shower and when I come back you better be up."
"Or we can go in together?" Yin calls after him, raising his eyebrows playfully. "Save some water."
War only replied by sliding the bathroom door closed.
"Not a chance Anan."
---
Their home was beautifully decorated for the holidays, courtesy of War's magic touch. And the couple themselves were busy in the kitchen, bickering about their menu for that night as Rookie slept peacefully on her cot by the tree.
"Why am I the only one cooking?" Yin complained and turned to his smiling boyfriend. "There's two of us here."
"I like watching you cook." War replied, leaning his head on the kitchen counter and looking up at him with hooded eyes.
"Not going to work." Yin said with a laugh, turning the stove to low heat and walking over to his boyfriend and flicking his forehead. "Flattery won't get you out of this."
"But you're already doing a wonderful job, I don't want to mess it up."
"Really? That's why you don't want to get up and cook like you promised?" Yin asked and War nodded seriously. "Okay then I guess I don't have to cook the fish anymore."
"I'm up! I'm up!" War hopped out of his seat, nearly falling down in his haste. Yin caught him with a grip in his arm and turned him around, caging him between his body and the counter. "I thought we were going to cook?"
Yin smirked and leaned down, pressing a soft kiss on his lips before walking away as he hummed merrily to the Christmas song blasting in the house.
"Are you coming or do I have to kiss you again?" Yin asked with a tilt of his lips when War didn't move. "Although I won't be opposed to kissing you again so you can take your time."
War looked at him with wide eyes that turned into slits as he crossed his arms, glaring at his smirking boyfriend. "Anan."
"Yes?"
"I hate you."
"You love me." Yin replied happily, grabbing War's apron and handing it to him. "Now get your cute ass over here so we can finish early."
War grumbled but put on the apron and joined Yin in the kitchen. With his back to Yin, he got to work, a monotonous cooking routine sprinkled with a few teasing banters.
The noise they were making attracted the sleeping cat in the living room and not a few minutes later, Rookie was walking around the kitchen, rubbing her head on their legs.
"Sorry we woke you up, but it was your dad." Yin said, picking up the meowing cat after cleaning his hands. "He's very noisy isn't he?"
War snorted and reached out to take the cat from Yin's arms, cuddling her close to his chest and sticking his tongue out at him. "She won't believe you because she loves me more than you."
"Is it true?" Yin asked, leaning down so he was eye-level with Rookie. "You're choosing sides now huh?"
She meowed in response and War giggles, rubbing her head softly and scooting down to help her back to her feet. "That's my girl."
"I've been betrayed." Yin gasped dramatically as War smirked at him smugly before turning around to go back to work.
After a few seconds, War could feel a familiar pair of arms sliding around his waist and hugging him close, breath fanning on his neck.
"You're very touchy today." He hummed as Yin places his head on his shoulder. He turned and narrowed his eyes at his boyfriend suspiciously. "Did you do anything wrong?"
Yin laughed and shakes his head. "It's the season, everything is warm and happy."
---
Once their food was ready, they huddled on the couch to watch The Grinch, War's head on Yin's shoulder and rookie curled peacefully around War's lap. Yin was running his fingers through War's locks as they made small talk about the movie.
"Didn't you say you were scared of the Grinch when you were young?" War asked playfully.
"He's green and he eats glass shards, I think five year-old me had every right to be scared."
"Touché. But Rookie is definitely faring better than you." They looked down and sure enough the cat's eyes were trained on the television, as if mesmerized by what she was seeing. "I would take a picture but I don't want to move."
"Too comfortable?" Yin asked.
"And warm." War pats Yin's tummy with a smile. "Best pillow, very soft, ten out of ten definitely worth it."
Before the movie ended, he heard soft sounds coming from War and sure enough the smaller man was already asleep. His lips were parted and Yin resisted the urge to kiss him again, instead he carefully maneuvered him to lay on the couch.
Rookie jumped out of the sleeping man's lap and stretched as Yin covered War with the blanket they kept close. Once he was cozy, Rookie hoped back to War's side and curled around his chest.
"Watch over your dad for me okay?" Yin whispered softly and the cat meowed in response."Good girl."
He pat her head and leaned over to leave a small peck on War's forehead before standing up to make his way back to the kitchen to check on their food.
Yin looked back at the sleeping man and their cat, smiling softly at the sight of his little family.
---
War wakes up after an hour to the smell of food fresh from the oven and sits up on the couch, startling the cat sleeping next to him.
"Sorry Rookie." He said apologetically before throwing the blanket off and padding to their kitchen. "Hey."
"Hey sleepyhead." Yin said, turning to face his boyfriend whose hair was sticking all over the place. "Good sleep?"
"Yeah, sorry I fell asleep." War said with a pout. "I don't know what came over me."
"You're probably tired, you bounced around the kitchen like a hyperactive child awhile ago." Yin said and turned back to the pot in front of his. "I'll be done in a bit."
War walked over and wrapped his arms around Yin's waist, burying his head on his back with a hum. "Missed my pillow."
"You're very touchy today." Yin teased, turning the stove off and looking back at his cuddly boyfriend. "Did you do anything wrong?"
"Don't use my words against me." War mumbled through the fabric of his hoodie. "I'm sleepy."
"You can sleep all you want later, for now Christmas dinner and then presents." Yin said, turning around and letting War bury his face on his chest instead. "Don't fall asleep on me now."
War hummed and squeezed him tighter. "Later, let me recharge."
"A pillow and a charger, I'm jumping jobs on Christmas eve." Yin chuckled but let his boyfriend do as he pleased, wrapping his own arms around War's shoulders and holding him close.
They were interrupted by Rookie walking in to the kitchen and purring around their legs, making them burst out in laughter when she staryed pawing at their feet.
"I think your daughter wants to be fed." War said with a grin.
"Oh so when it's feeding time I'm her favorite, I see how it is." Yin whined as he picked up the purring cat. "You are not playing fair miss."
"You feed her, I'll go set the table." War said, gently pushing them to where Rookie's food was kept. "Hurry I'm hungry."
"There are two cats in this house." Yin whispered to Rookie conspiratorially. "Sorry Rookie but I love the other one more."
---
With their bellies full, they gathered around the tree, scooting close as they unwrapped gifts. Rookie's presents were already unwralled but the feline was more interested in the boxes than on the toys around her.
"She's definitely our child." Yin said when Rookie tumbles out of one box and hops to the other. "I didn't get her that really expensive bed for her to ignore it for the wrapping."
War laughed beside him, setting aside their own gifts in favor of watching their cat tumble on the floor.
"I have one last gift for you." Yin whispered and War furrowed his eyebrows.
"You already got me a lot of gifts though." War frowned but Yin only shrugged easily, calling Rookie over.
"You'll see."
The feline sauntered over as soon as Yin called and sat in front of him, letting him take the small pouch tied around her collar.
"What's that?" War asked when Yin took his hand in his and let a lone silver band drop on his outstretched palm. "Yin?"
"I'm not asking you to marry me, not yet atleast." Yin said, taking the band and sliding it on his finger, a perfect fit. "But this is my promise, that no matter what I will always love you."
War inpected the simple band in his finger, a delicate engraving prominently seen on the surface.
YW
He looked up and met Yin's eyes with his own glistening ones and Yin reached up to wipe the forming tears.
"Why are you crying?"
War thre his hands around Yin's neck, pulling him to a tight hug and mumbling on his chest.
"It's your fault Anan. How dare you keep stealing my heart."
Yin pulled away and cupped his cheeks, touching the tip of their noses in an eskimo kiss.
"If it's any consolation, I gave mine to you a long time ago."
END.
