Work Text:

“What the fuck?” War cursed as he read the first email he received that morning. “My what?”

He rereads the message for what felt like the hundredth time, hoping that he'd somehow read it wrong, but the glaring words remained on the screen.

Marriage to Yin Anan Wong

And although the news of a wedding, especially during the holidays, was supposed to bring a smile on his face, this particular news was not your regular wedding announcement. He would know, it was his job.

He begrudgingly closed the offending email and called his friend who yawned as soon as he picked up the phone.

“I hope you know that not all of us are morning people.”

“I think I fucked up.” He said at the same time, effectively cutting off the rant hat Mild was about to say.

“What do you mean fucked up? Did you forget something for the weekend wedding?” She asked. “Don’t panic, I’m sure we can figure it out.”

“No, it’s not that.” He puts his phone on speaker and pulls up the email he received that morning. “I think I’m married.”

---

Yin almost spews out the coffee he was drinking when he reads the email that popped up, he was almost inclined to believe that it was all a hoax until he saw the familiar logo and read the attached documents.

“Mom!” He walked out of his office and into the sitting area where his mother was nursing her own cup.

“Yes honey?” She asked with a smile on her face. “You needed something?”

Yin crossed his arms and pointedly looked at her. “Why did I just get an email telling me that I’m married?”

His mother clapped her hands and walked to him, clasping his hands in hers. “That’s wonderful news!”

“No, not wonderful news. I know that site, it’s one of your prototypes isn’t it?”

She only hummed. “It’s working wonderfully if it was even able to find my grouchy son a pair.”

“Mom how many times have I told you? I don’t need to get married.”

“Well, it’s a bit too late for that now.” She smiled again before hurriedly walking past him. “Now, I have to hurry and find this match of yours.”

“Mother!”

---

Christmas was always the busiest season for War, people just loved getting married on the holidays but at the moment, the five other weddings he had to organize was the last thing on his mind.

“It looks legitimate.” Mild said as she read the email on his work computer. “I’ve never heard about it before though.”

“It’s on beta.” He replied, eyes blank. “They sent it to a bunch of people and I only got it because well-”

“Because you’re the best wedding organizer in this city.” She finished.

“I won’t say best, but yes it was definitely because of my job.”

"And what, you thought it was a dating site?"

War nodded gravely, thoroughly regretting his impulsive decisions. "I was bored and I figured, what the heck right?"

"Now you're married?" She laughed. "If you weren't so upset I'd be throwing a party by now."

"It’s reversible, thankfully."

"Oh so now you read the fine print.” Mild teased and War groaned, slumping on the plush couch in his office. “Hey it could be worse.”

“Mild-” He lifted his head to glare at her. “I’m married to a stranger.”

“A very good looking stranger and a very rich stranger.” She said with a gasp, fingers tapping on the keys. “Did you save a country in your last life or something?”

“What did you do?”

“Look him up.” Mild said and looked at him weirdly. “Like any normal person would.”

“Sorry I was too busy panicking over the thought of being married to a stranger.” War replied sarcastically, but before Mild could answer there was a quick knock on his door, so she settled for sticking her tongue out at him which he returned. “Come in!”

The door opened to reveal his secretary. “Someone’s looking for you.”

“Oh? Who is it?” He asked before turning to Mild. “Go back to your own office.”

“Wouldn’t say, only insisted on speaking with you personally, shall I send her in?” His secretary asked with a furrow in his brow.

“Go ahead.” War takes his seat at his table and hastily fixes his shirt as his secretary closes the door, only to open it again a few seconds later with a woman in tow.

“You may go.” He told his secretary with a smile once the woman was seated. “I can handle it here.”

The man bowed at both of them and closed the door behind him, leaving War to look at the woman in front of him who was looking around in his office in awe. He hid a smile, he was very proud of his work and the space reflected that.

They were silent for a while, his visitor busy roaming her eyes around the area, immediately brightening up when she turned to him.

“That’s beautiful, I haven’t seen it before.” She pointed at the painting behind his desk. “Do you know the artist?”

“You’re looking at him.” War replied with a small smile.

"A wedding planner and a painter, I like you already."

"Thank you." They smiled at each other before War's professionalism kicked in. “Now,what can I do for you today?”

"I'm here for my son."

"Oh." He takes out his tablet to check his calendar. "My schedule is a bit full at the moment but I think we can fit another wedding in."

"He's actually already married." The woman said, making War look up.

"Okay? Then is this their second wedding, those are relatively simpler to organize." War replied with a humm.

"No, they haven't had a proper wedding yet." She said with a sly smile directed at him. "I think you know him."

"I do?"

"His name is Yin. Yin Anan Wong."

----

"War is lovely, he's a wedding planner and a magnificent artist." His mother gushed over lunch. "You'll love him."

Yin smiles, oddly finding the fact that this stanger has already endeared himself to his mother shortly after their meeting.

"You like him that much?" He asked and she nodded.

"I made the algorithm myself and I think it worked out perfectly. He's exactly your type." She said with a twinkle in her eyes.

"I don't have a type."

"You do." She waves her hand dismissively. "You'll understand when you meet him."

"And that is when exactly?" Yin asked as he sipped on his drink. "Not too soon I hope."

"Tomorrow." She hummed happily. "I've already worked out the details."

"But work-" He protested, only to be cut off with a look.

"Can wait. Your husband however, cannot."

"It's reversible, mother." He said with a resigned breath. "I'm pretty sure it will all be over by tomorrow. No one wants to be tied down with a stranger."

---

"You're meeting him? Already?" Mild asked as soon as their orders arrived. "That was fast."

"His mother came to see me."

"His mother?"

"She visited this morning, I thought she was just another client, it turns out that mystery husband is her son." He replied with a shrug. "She was really nice too."

Mild coos as she pinches his cheek. "Look at you, making your in-laws love you already. You're all grown up."

He rubs his reddening cheeks and glares at her. "Stop that."

"Never."

They talk for a bit more until the conversation inevitably circles back to the odd situation he found himself in.

"I wonder how she knew about this whole mess." War wondered out loud. "Did he tell her?"

"You really didn't look up your husband?" Mild asked in shock. "You're not the least bit curious?"

"Unless he's a criminal then I don't really care." War replied. "Besides, it's probably going to be over by tomorrow, this kind of thing just doesn't work out."

"Suit yourself." Mild said as she sips on her drink, eyes trained at him. "You might regret it tomorrow."

---

And regret it he did because he finds himself standing in front of a posh restaurant looking for a man he didn't know.

"Excuse me-" War called the attention of one of the staff. "reservation for uh - Yin Anan Wong?"

The man brightened almost immediately. "Of course, follow me."

War was led to the deck that had a beautiful view of the city. He glanced at the only occupied table and his eyes widened in shock.

"Here you are sir."

The man looked up at them and gaped but immediately schooled his expression back to normal before turning to the waiter.

"Thank you."

"No problem sir, your food will be ready in a moment." He bowed and walked away, leaving them alone.

War followed him with his eyes before turning back to the man in front of him who gestured for him to take a seat, which he did.

"So, War Wanarat, we meet again." The man, Yin, said with a smile. "Although it's nice that I can finally put a name to a face."

War sighs, memories of a night almost a month ago floating in his head. "Believe me, the last thing I want right now is to be here."

"Why?" Yin's sharp eyes were trauned on him, looking at him closely. "We got very well acquainted with each other that night."

He groaned and slumped on his seat, making the man opposite him chuckle. "Please don't remind me."

"A wedding organizer, that's why you were there that night." Yin hummed. "See I would have known that if you didn't leave the next morning."

War wakes up the next morning with a groan and panic immediately sets in when he feels a warm body pressed against his. He looks around and realizes that he wasn't in his room and that he was lying next to the man he met at the bar that night.

He thinks back to the previous events as he slowly disentangled himself from the embrace, embarrassingly noting the strong grip the other man had around his waist.

He remembered them sharing a few drinks and one thing led to another and well, here he was now.

As quickly and as silently as he could, he put on his discarded clothes and spared the sleeping man one last look and walked out of the room.

"I don't know what happened that night, I don't usually do one-night stands." He said, gratefully taking the offered drink. "And sorry for walking out on you."

"It's alright, we're married now after all." Yin winks and War resists the urge to roll his eyes at him. "Perhaps it was my good looks?"

"Don't even try." War replied with a laugh. "I can't believe I'm sitting here, married to the man I slept with a month ago, this is crazy."

"How did you end up here anyway?" Yin asked, eyes following the curve of the other man's lips. "Married to a stranger I mean."

"Didn't read the terms and conditions." He replied with a sip of his drink. "Note to self, they're important."

Yin's laugh echoes in the empty deck and War joins him. It felt very much like the night they met over a month ago.

"They are important." Yin said when their laughter died down. "You should make a habit of reading them."

"I'll definitely keep that in mind. And how about you? What's a man like you doing on a dating site?" He asked lightly. "Surely, you have more than enough people vying for your attention."

"Are you saying I'm attractive?" Yin asked.

"Aren't you?" War countered with a raised brow.

"Touché. But I could ask the same about you." Yin said with a smile and War flushed. "Don't think I didn't notice the stares you were getting that night, too bad for them you were already preoccupied."

Unknowingly, they were both leaning closer to the other until they were only a breath away.

"Oh? Too bad for them then." War breathed with a tilt of his lips.

"Good for me though." Yin replied, inching closer and closer.

They were interrupted by the opening of the door and the unmistakable sound of their food being brough to their table. They spring apart but their fingers lingered by each other.

----

When they were once again alone, War looked at Yin with a curious stare.

"You didn't answer my question."

"Oh, it was my mother. I'm starting to think that she made the whole thing especially for me."

"Made the whole thing?" War asked. "What do you mean by that?"

"She's been developing the site for a while now and she's decided to make me her guinea pig." Yin replied with a sigh. "Says she's not getting any younger and that I have to find someone soon."

"Your mother made it?" War gasped, remembering the woman he met in his office yesterday. "That's amazing."

"Speaking of my mother, she adores you. She met you once and she's already ready to make sure our marriage becomes official." Yin chuckled. "You charmed your way in to another Wong's heart mister, what do you have to say for yourself?"

War hid his flushed cheeks behind his drink. "I think it's a talent."

"Or it's just you."

Their night went on for hours, extending beyong their reservation. But War was pleasantly surprised that with just a few quick words from Yin, the staff were more than happy to let them stay.

"Is that you working your charm on the poor staff?" War asked when Yin came back.

"Maybe. I'd much rather charm you though."

"A flirt, that's what you are."

Yin leaned down, breath lingering by his ear. "It's the effect you have on me I guess."

Like the night they met, it was impossible to ignore the glaring attraction they had for each other. The subtle stares and lingering touches were enough to make their heart beat wildly in their chests.

But as all good things do, everything must come to an end.

"I'll walk you to your car." Yin said politely and War nodded, silently leading the man to where his vehicle was parked.

As he was about to open the door though, Yin stopped him with a soft touch on his wrist.

"Hey War?"

"Hm." He asked, turning to the other. "What is it?"

"Thank you for today, I had fun." Yin said, sincerity lacing his tone. "I'm happy I was able to see you again."

"Me too." He replied before rubbing the back of his neck. "I have to go. I wasn't supposed to be out this long."

"Sorry for keeping you." Yin said as he opened the door for him, leaning down and peering at him from the window. "But at the same time I'm not."

"I'll be sure to tell that to the panicking brides that will be raining hell on my office tomorrow."

"I'll snatch you away again if I have to. Just give me a call."

They stared at each other again before Yin shook his head. "Bye."

"Bye."

War rolled his windows up with a final wave but before he could start the engine, Yin was knocking on the window softly.

"Yeah?" He asked once the windows were down. "Did you forget anything?"

"Can I see you again?" Yin asked, almost bashfully, the downturned eyes almost looking out of place.

War poked his nose and smile widely when Yin looked down on him.

"Of course, we are technically still married after all."

The answering smile was enough to make his heart stop beating but he held it in.

"That's good. That's great." Yin stuttered for a second. "I'll call you."

"Can't wait."

They said their goodbyes again and he watched Yin turn and walk away but there was something telling him that he has to do one last thing. So he threw his car door open and walked out.

"Yin!" War called, making the other man stop walking to turn to him. "I forgot to tell you something."

He walked quickly to where the other man was waiting, standing on the tip of his toes and leaving a gentle peck on the stunnned man's cheek.

"Merry Christmas." He said, cheeks flushing and turning to walk away. But before he could, he felt Yin's arms winding around his waist and a finger on his chin.

"Merry Christmas." Yin leaned down and their lips finally met.

End.
