Playing With Fire

Summary:

He likes playing with fire, almost craving his partner's faint blush and shy smiles. Maybe he is a tease and maybe there's a pull that always keeps him wanting more. But fire burns and unbeknownst to him, he was slowly breaking down Yin's self-control.

Work Text:

For those around them it almost felt like watching a game, a never-ending game with no clear winner. It was a game of cat and mouse, except nobody really knew who was who.

On one side, a man who knew his charms and who used it to their full potential and on the other, a man whose resolve and self-restraint is ironclad. It was the perfect recipe for a beautiful chaos.

---

War’s lips curled up to a smile, his eyes full of mischief, as he closed the distance between him and the man in front of him. He really didn’t care about the shocked gasps around them, all he cared about was the unfaltering sharp eyes in front of him.

This was his game and it was exhilarating.

He never goes too far, never pushes too many buttons, but wants to. He wants to know how far he can go.

“Anan.” His lips curve to a deeper smile, inching his face closer and closer but Yin’s eyes never falter. War could see the faint blush on his cheeks and the nervous curl of his lips but those weren’t what he was looking for.

“Yes?”

As soon as he sees the faint change of the emotions in Yin’s eyes, he retreats, widening the distance between them and putting on a charming smile as he plays it off in front of the camera.

That was enough for now.

---

“I’m not sure if you’re brave or stupid.”

War looked up from his piano and sent his friend a curious stare.

“Should I know what you’re talking about?”

Bonnadol sighs and puts down the guitar in his hand before walking to a chair near him and sitting down.

“I know that we both know what you’re doing. So I’m asking you, as your friend, if you’re ready for the repercussions.”

“There are no repercussions.”

“Not yet. But continue pushing his buttons and he will snap. What will you do then?” Bonnadol leveled him with a look. “Or is that what you’ve been waiting for?”

War placed his fingers on the piano, letting them dance to a crescendo.

“Maybe.” The tune rises before it stops completely. War turns to the other with a secretive smile. “But Anan’s self-control is better than all of us combined.”

“Not when it comes to you, it isn’t.”

---

He knew he was playing a dangerous game, but playing with fire was exciting and he knew how to play his cards right.

A smile, a small crinkle of his eyes and he knows that the other will surrender. He knows how to play his tunes to get what he wants.

Sometimes a subtle touch, just enough for the other to feel the warmth of his fingertips, enough to remind Yin that he was there.

Or maybe when he was being particularly daring, he'd lift his head and let it settle on the other's strong shoulder. Inhaling the smooth scent he's associated with comfort.

It was his game and he knew how to play. Except it wasn't just his game and he wasn't the only one who knew how to play.

---

"Your face is red." War's lips curl to a charming smile, letting his face settle just inches away from Yin. "Are you blushing Anan?"

"Are you?" It was a simple question but the smile on Yin's lips was magnetic and he was already drawn in.

"No."

"Liar." A warm hand reaches out and settles on his cheek, brushing the skin lightly before pulling away. "Your cheeks are red. It's cute."

"It's the heat."

"This room is air-conditioned." Yin's teasing laugh echoes in the room and War huffs in defiance. "Alright. Let's just say I believe you then."

War should be annoyed, really he should clap back and watch as the delightful red brush Yin's cheeks. But the other man's eyes lit up, the sides of his eyes crinkling as he smiled and for a second he was frozen.

Because Yin was breathtaking.

The director calls cut and he sits back on the couch, averting his eyes when Yin tries to talk to him. Thoughts about Yin's eyes and his smile and his everything running around in his head.

"Are you okay?" The soft tone brings him back to the present and he coughs to cover up his thoughts.

"I'm okay."

"Sure? We can ask for a longer break, I'll talk to the director." Yin makes a motion to get up but War reaches out for him and grabs his hand.

"It's okay, just stay with me, hm?" The younger man looks unsure but nods anyway, willing to give in to the older's whims and knowing full well that he was wrapped around War's fingers.

Yin settled back on his seat and War immediately rested his head on his shoulder, closing his eyes and letting his body relax. He hears paper shuffling and snorts when he realizes that it was Yin skimming through the script for the nth time that hour.

"You have that thing memorized by heart." He says with his eyes closed, nuzzling further to Yin's warmth. "You can probably say my lines if you wanted to."

"It never hurts to be extra prepared."

War hums. "Okay."

Everything was starting to become fuzzy, his consciousness slipping further and further away as he drifted off to sleep. But his peaceful almost-slumber was disturbed when he felt the rumble of laughter coming from his faux-pillow.

"What are you laughing about?" He mumbles, not willing to open his eyes or to separate from the warmth.

"You're like a cat."

"So I've been told."

Yin laughs again, fixing their position so he was settled more comfortably on his shoulder.

"Get some sleep, I'll wake you up."

"Maybe if you cuddled me to sleep every night." War huffed, still with his eyes closed.

"Then what?"

"Maybe I'll sleep better."

----

But the time for him to lose came sooner than he expected it to.

The company was hosting a party and it was in full swing, the staff and artists of the company mingling in the area. War was seated on the couch next to Yin and along with the others when someone had the bright idea of playing truth or dare.

“This is childish.” Yin complained after another round of giggles when the bottle landed on an unfortunate soul.

“It’s fun.” War replied with a lilt in his voice, reaching out and poking Yin’s red cheeks. “You’re drunk.”

“I’m not.”

“Your cheeks turn a pretty shade of red when you’re tipsy.” He replied matter-of-factly. “I like it.”

“And you get chatty when you’re drunk, so I guess we’re both a little out of it.”

“When the two of you are quite done acting like the married couple that you are.” Bonnadol interrupted, pointing at the bottle. “Truth or dare?”

The tip of the bottle was pointing straight at War and suddenly his soft features transformed to something akin to a mischievous feline.

“Dare.”

“Of course you’d pick dare.” Nadol sighed but War only shrugged in response. “Fine.”

“You’re really going to let him dare you into doing something?” Yin whispered in his ear, sending a small shiver down his spine.

“Stop flirting, I’m trying to come up with something.” Bonnadol exclaimed as he rolled his eyes when Yin only leaned his head closer to War’s temple.

“Hurry up, we don’t have all night.”

“Alright then, if you’re so brave, I dare you to kiss the person next to you.” The glint in Bonnadols eyes was almost predatory but War was not the type to back down from a challenge. He turned to the person on his right who immediately leaned away while looking at something, or rather someone, behind him.

War smirked, already feeling the sharp eyes boring on his back. “You don’t have to look so scandalised at the thought you know?”

“Try scared, besides I think he meant your other side.” Bver replied with a dry chuckle as he grabbed his shoulder and turned him around to face the man on his left. "I want to live through tonight so-"

Yin's eyes were on him, his cheeks flushed and his eyes droopy. War's lips formed an "o" before carving to a smile as he placed a hand on Yin's shoulder.

"Can I?"

"You wanted to kiss someone else."

"Jealous?" Yin's silence made his smile grow bigger and he inched his face impossibly closer. "Don't be."

"Why?"

"Because I'd rather be kissing you anyway."

There was a faint scoff from Bver but they didn't really care, not when their lips were moving against each other in a slow dance. Not when Yin's hand settled on his waist to pull him closer and certainly not when he felt a bite on his lower lip.

Everything around them was melting away, leaving nothing but the delicious taste of Yin's lips on his, pulling him in and not letting go.

It felt like being consumed by fire, slowly wrapping around him like a tight coil, taking his breath away. And he couldn't get enough, so he kept reaching for more and more and more. Moving closer and closer to that one thing he's been craving for.

"Enough." But before he could let himself go any further, Yin was pulling away and his authoritative voice was dragging him back to reality. He could still feel the strong grip on his waist and the warm breath on his lips but one look in Yin's eyes and he could already tell that he'd gone too far this time.

"I-" War looked around, noting that he'd somehow sat himself on the other man's lap and that everyone in their little circle was looking at them in shock, except Bonnadol who had a shit-eating grin on his face. "I have to go."

Yin wasn't saying anything and he didn't want to see what else the other's eyes could tell him. War moved away, back to his old space before getting up on his feet and walking away.

Thankfully, the other people at the party didn't seem to have noticed their little risque display and he was able to make his way through the crowd and back to their room where he promptly hid himself under the covers.

"What was I thinking?" He scolded himself, tossing and turning until he was a War-burrito. "I'm going crazy."

As he was mentally scolding himself, he could hear the soft click of the door and he cursed, forgetting exactly who he was rooming with.

"Fuck, I'm never drinking again." War hurriedly turned on his back, pretending to be asleep. Hoping that his roommate will take one look at him and buy his act.

But of course he didn't. He could hear the soft pad of his socked feet against the floor, ears straining to hear what he would do next.

"You're an awful liar." War flinched when he realized that Yin was already in front of him, crouched in front of their bed. "I know you're not asleep. You never sleep in this position."

"And how would you know?" War asked petulantly before slapping a hand on his mouth and wincing internally.

"Because I sleep next to you everyday."

War opened his eyes reluctantly, immediately meeting the sharp stare of his roommate. Yin was still flushed, his face an adorable shade of red even under the soft lights of their room.

"What are you doing here? You should still be down there with everyone else."

"I decided I wanted to play your game, so here I am."

"What do you mean?"

Yin moved closer, making War move back until he was trapped between Yin's warm body and the wall behind them. The blanket falling around his shoulders and pooling on his waist.

For a second he was shocked, not used to being the one on the receiving end of these things but it wasn't long before he realized that he still had an upper hand. So he met Yin's gaze with a fiery one of his own, his hands settling around a familiar neck.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"You don't think I notice, you try to be subtle but I don't miss anything when it comes to you. I notice all the extra touches, all the buttons you're trying to push and I let you because I want to see how far you'd go."

"You're a very hard person to get through." He replied in an even tone, tightening his hands around the slender neck. "I had to use up all my tricks."

"Babe," Yin's breath fanned on his exposed collar and he inhaled sharply. "I don't have walls when I'm around you. I thought you already knew that. I mean, everybody knew that."

"I didn't."

"Then you're just dense." War tugged on the hair at the base of Yin's neck for that comment making the other man let out a short laugh.

"You're not funny."

"And neither are you when you prance around me, pretending to be all sweet and soft when you've been trying to test my limit, trying to chew away at my self-control." War at least had the decency to look shy when their eyes meet. Already surrendering when he realized that he won't win this time. "I've reached my limit, a long time ago, but I stop myself every time you pull away."

"Maybe I shouldn't have pulled away." War's hands were dancing at the nape of the other man's neck while one of Yin's hands had somehow found itself on his hip, drawing smooth circles on the exposed skin.

"Maybe you shouldn't have." Yin replies, his lips only a breath away. "Are you going to pull away this time?"

"No."

"Then stop running away."

Their lips met for the second time that night, War's hands buried in Yin's locks as their lips danced against each other, slow and steady. The hand on his hip drew him closer until they were practically glued together, letting the fire burn through them until there was nothing left but pure need.

Yin pulled away, his flushed face even prettier as he chased his breath. War inched close, pressing their foreheads together, one of his hands stroking the Yin's cheek.

"I think I'm done running away. I'm done playing this game."

"About time."

War let out a small gasp as Yin turned their positions so that they could be face to face, with him comfortably seated on the former's lap.

"Are you manhandling me?" War teased as Yin's hands settled back on his hip.

"Maybe." Yin leaned up and captured his lips in a short peck.

"Those hours at the gym are definitely working."

"I like this better. I like looking at you, your hair is a mess and god- you have no idea what you do to me."

"Then show me."

They let the fire consume them again, lips crashing against each other as their hands wandered, feeling the warmth coursing through each other's skin.

And maybe someone made sure that they remained undisturbed the whole night, discreetly diverting the conversation when the pair's presence starts to be missed. That same someone who laughed to himself when the couple showed up the next morning with messy hairs and twin smiles.
