Like feeding a wound with poison, and calling it medicine. She used to say, in particular, “An Alpha is not a protector, they do not keep you and they do not keep you safe. They’re a possessive, selfish creature. They just want to own you and breed you, to open your legs so that you become their baby-birthing machine. They will use you as a toy and discard you when they get bored, if you are lucky, if they don’t mark you. An Alpha is dangerous. Like your father. You wouldn’t trust your father. You cannot trust any other Alpha, ever. Believe me, Abra.”
And Nina believed her—of course she used to believe her.
