Work Text:
James thought he could cry from relief when transfiguration was finally done and he had a free period and he could take a nap. The best part is that Sirius, Remus, and Peter weren’t going to be in the dorm so there will be no noise no anything. Just sleeping. He practically floats to the dorm up all the stairs and finally, he falls into his bed. Just as James was getting comfortable in the bed when the door slammed open. He groaned.
“Come on James. I need help.” The voice of Lily says. Last year James would jump at the opportunity to have Lily here, but she told him no and she didn’t have a reason other than she just didn’t want to date him. And he finally took it as an answer and started dating Regulus. Now, they are friends and he really wants to take a nap. She was now shaking him.
“Okay, okay. What is it?” James asks triedly looking up at Lily, her red hair was braided down was messy from the day her uniform ruffled.
“I have a crush on Mary.”
“Tell me something I don’t know. You already told me Lily, how is that a problem.” James asks getting ready to go back to sleep. They already had the coming out talk and he wanted was exhausted.
“How do I confess to someone?” She asks now laying on his bed too. James then relized that this was not going to be over soon and he won’t be getting his nap today.
“How would I know?”
“You confessed to me like a millon times.”
“And see how well that worked for me.”
“Come on. You know we never would have worked. What about Regulus?”
“Listen. He just kissed my cheek one day and then we started cuddling and making out and the next thing I know he took me on a date. He did the heavy lifting. I did nothing but went along with it and ask him.”
“James. I know you got something.”
“Just tell her. Just ask her out to Hogsmeade. It really isn’t that hard Lily. And if you are scared just tell it was you trying to get into jokes or something.”
“Well, how the hell do I do that? How do I look at her and ask if she likes me?"
"So you need a pep talk? Or do you need me to remind you that you are good looking and people like and anyone would love to date you. And I have seen Mary look at you. I would be shocked if she didn't at least find you attractive."
"You are biased."
"How?"
"Well for one you had a crush on me for years. And two your one of my best friends."
"Okay. Sure I am biased. But Mary is also your best friend and has been for longer than me. Worst case scenario things are really really awkward. And you lose her. But if that does happen and I don't think so all of your other friends including me will be there for you."
Lily was slimet for a moment looking at the curtains over James bed clearly trying to figure out what she should do. She then puts her hands over her face and muffedly asks in a timid voice like one of a child after a nightmare.
"You really think it would be okay?"
"Of course. You should see the way you guys look at each other if it is not romantic. I am positive she will not hate you for it."
"You're right I am going to go and tell her now." Lily says getting back her normal Lily confidence and ran out of room shouting thanks to James. When Lily wants to do something she will, though she is human and sometimes needs a little help to get her there. James sighs, getting ready to finally take his nap when he hears the bell for the next class. He groans.
Lily on the other hand was looking for Mary knowing that she had a free period, she may be or may be not missing charms but she finally got the nerve to tell Mary she had a crush on her so it could wait.
She found Mary by the lake writing probably some essay, she had her broom with her so later she could go to the quidditch pitch to practice. Her dark hair was in braids that fell to her shoulders. Her dark skin seems to glow in the light of the sun. Her hands were writing with practiced ease. The same ones that hold the bat and swing it hard when quidditch comes around. She looked up to see Lily, a smile spreading on her face easily, to see her best friend.
"Hey, Lily, don't you have charms? What are you doing here? Not that I am not happy to see you." Mary asks putting away her essay and quill so her full attention is on Lily.
"I skipped because I have to tell you something."
"Well it is probably very important since you skipped class."
"I um I have had a crush on you for a while and I was wondering if we maybe could go on a date?"
"Yes!"
"R-really? You can say no I won't be mad."
"Lily, when have I been known to do something I don't want to do because of someone?"
"Never."
"Exactly."
"Awesome you me hogsmeade this weekend."
"Sure."
"Great, I better get to charms. Better to be late then missing. See ya."
"Bye."
Both girls ended up not getting much work done because all they could think about was the date ahead.
