Chapter Text
“Next,” Hades' voice cracked like a whip.
Out of thin air appeared a ghost. Its blue hue flickered uncertainly. Gnawing on the specter's edges an ever-growing darkness tried to devourer him - absorb his essence and pull him back into the abyss from which he came.
The master clicked his tongue and the shadows ceased.
“I received your letters.” The ruler of the Underworld leaned back on his throne. “All three-hundred-five.” A slow simmering fire burned in otherwise pitch-black eyes as he pointed at the mountain of neatly stacked papers resting on a marble table.
Defiantly, the ghost crossed his arms. Granted, they were worded rather strongly, but what was one to do when paradise sucked? He glared down at the floor, knowing full well that it would make his lord exponentially more annoyed.
“People don’t usually complain about eternal happiness.”
And that was the crux of the matter, wasn’t it? He was not. Happy that was. “It’s not realistic,” the ghost accused the god. “Like, are you even trying?”
Hades’ eye twitched. So far he’d put an absurd amount of work into pleasing the insatiable spirit. Time for plan B.
“Very well.” Pale lips twisted into a malicious smile as the documents went up in a blazing firestorm. No trace of the paperwork remained and it dawned on the dead man that he had made a horrible mistake.
“Please,” he begged, his brain racing in search of an out. “It’s Christmas!” He clutched at every straw.
For a second the king of hell paused before his expression lit up with the purest of joy.
“It’s December 10th,” he replied and snapped his fingers.
Jules-Albert screamed as the heartbeat of the underworld entered his chest and forced his own heart to follow the same rhythm until it stopped once and for all again. The sounds around him started to fade, till all that was left were his master's last words.
“Congratulations, you get a promotion.”

Hades rubbed at his temple and wondered if his brothers had to deal with stuff like this too.
