"Wearing a suit and tie and listening to politics and state issues and the most recent up and coming potential runners for office was not Danny’s idea of a fun Saturday night. Maybe it was something that came with age or just having the appropriate amount of sleep but he just couldn’t bring himself to enjoy formal events; the fact that he was attending a government function that was hosting the current governor of Wisconsin in order to raise his grade in political science didn’t help much either."
Or, at a political function in Wisconsin, Danny runs into Vlad and they end up having a heart to heart.

Apparently his Beloved hadn’t appreciated the most recent gift, which isn’t a first but such a reaction over a book is somewhat surprising considering similar gifts did not come to bring the same reaction. Ra’s wouldn’t deny his curiosity in regards as to what provoked such hate in those beautifully blue eyes, but there is more than hate behind those glaciers. “To what do I owe the pleasure of your visit, my Beloved?”

Summary
The pain flared brighter, startling a quiet gasp out of Danny that seemed to go unnoticed by everyone - or almost everyone. Though his parents and Jazz chatted on, oblivious, Danny glanced across the room to see Vlad's eyes fixed on him, his face a mixture of puzzlement and the barest hint of what Danny might call concern.
Danny's fangs grow in while at a Christmas party. Vlad is surprisingly helpful.
