Oopsie Baby

Summary:

Joonas gets a surprise

Work Text:

Raising a two year old and a six month old was a lot harder than they had anticipated. Especially on the third week of July 2024. They were getting ready to release the new album, go on tour again and Joonas was sick. He’d been throwing up constantly for almost a week now and they had to keep him away from the babies to avoid getting them sick, something that wasn’t easy.

“You really need to see a doctor, Joonas,” Tommi said worriedly as Joonas came out of the bathroom again, wiping his mouth.

“I’ve got an appointment tomorrow,” Joonas said dismissively.

“Well good, your smell is even starting to get weird,” Niko said.

Joonas frowned at that and gave Niko the finger.

The next day Joonas went to his doctor's appointment alone. Tommi offered to take him, but Joonas insisted on taking himself. Once he was called back he talked to a nurse about his symptoms.

“I know it’s just a stomach flu, but I need to get it taken care of,” he said.

The nurse nodded and urged him to further explain his symptoms so he did. He explained the nausea, the vomiting, and even the bloating. She wrote all this down and told him the doctor would be right in.

The doctor asked him to repeat his symptoms, which Joonas thought was silly because this was obviously a stomach flu, but he did.

“When was your last heat?” The doctor asked.

Joonas blinked in surprise. “Like a month ago.”

She nodded. “I’d like you to take a pregnancy test.”

“That’s impossible,” Joonas protested. “I’m on birth control.”

“Birth control fails,” she said simply.

Joonas was in shock as he was directed to the bathroom and given a cup to piss in. He didn’t feel anything as he simply followed the motions and waited for the results.

“Congratulations, Mr. Porko, you’re pregnant.”

Due to his last heat they estimated he was four weeks along. Joonas looked at his stomach, now knowing it was filled with life and tears filled his eyes. He was elated.

This hadn’t been his plan. He was going to wait another two years before asking his mates for another baby, but life had another plan for him. He cradled his stomach gently as he wept and his doctor put a careful hand on his shoulder.

“Everything is going to be okay, Joonas,” she said. “You have options.”

“No, I know,” he said quickly. “I want to keep it.”

The rest of the visit was focused on prenatal care and he was told to make an appointment with his OBGYN.

Joonas should have known that when he came home the first thing his mates would clock was his red eyes.

“Joonas? What’s wrong, love?” Olli asked.

“Nothing,” Joonas said.

“Nothing? You look like you’ve been crying!” Niko pointed out.

Joonas winced. “Get the rest of the guys, we need to talk.”

Once everyone was rounded up in the living room, Joonas dropped the bomb.

“I’m pregnant.”

“What?”

“No way!”

“But you’re on birth control!”

“The doctor says it fails sometimes,” Joonas said.

“Fuck,” Aleksi swore.

“So what are you going to do?” Olli asked.

Joonas was taken aback. “What the hell do you mean “what are you going to do?” I’m going to keep it! It’s our baby!”

“I just mean that we have two young kids and we’re about to go on tour,” Olli said gently. “That’s a lot of stress.”

“And I’ll fucking handle it!” Joonas snapped. “I’m not going to get rid of our baby!”

“No one is asking you to,” Joel said soothingly, giving Olli a hard look.

“If you want to keep the baby, we’ll find a way to deal,” Aleksi said, rubbing his temples. “But it’s going to be hard having three kids under three.”

Joonas bristled. “Don’t talk to me like I’m stupid. I know that!”

Things were about to escalate when Esteri’s voice cut through the sounds of the chaos building.

“Mama?” Esteri called.

Joonas turned to look at her standing in the doorway with big wide, startled eyes.

“Oh little star, did we scare you?” Joonas asked, all the anger deflating from his body.

Esteri nodded and Joonas stood up.

“I’m sorry, sweet girl. C’mon, let’s get your sister and cuddle,” he said.

“Joonas, I think we should continue talking,” Aleksi said pointedly.

“I don’t have anything more to say,” Joonas said simply and left the room, holding Esteri’s little hand.

He went to Emma’s nursery and got the baby from her crib. He got into the rocking chair and helped Esteri into his lap, cuddling his girls. He breathed in their pup scent and kissed their heads.

“Jonttuliini, are you okay?” Came Tommi’s voice.

Joonas looked up and saw Tommi in the doorway. Tommi had a concerned look on his face and it made Joonas’s heart melt a little.

“I just don’t get how they couldn’t be happy about this,” Joonas said. “I know it was unplanned and I know it’ll make things stressful but it’s ours.”

Tommi came over and kissed the top of Joonas’s head.

“I know love, they just need some time,” he said gently.

Joonas refused to leave the nursery until dinner time. Dinner was a tense affair that they tried to keep light for the girls. After dinner they gave the girls a bath and got them ready for bed. Without their daughters to distract them, Joonas felt the need to flee again.

“You know we’re not mad, don’t you, kulta?” Niko asked.

“No,” Joonas admitted and saw Aleksi and Olli wince.

“Oh Joonas, we could never be mad at you, especially not for something like this,” Olli said, coming closer.

“Well how was I supposed to know that?” Joonas asked, crossing his arms.

Aleksi came over and hugged him until Joonas relaxed. “It was just a shock, love.”

“I just want you to be happy about the new baby, all of you,” Joonas said softly.

“And we’ll get there,” Aleksi promised. “It’s just going to take some time.”

Joonas nodded. “But you want the baby too, right? Now that you’ve thought about it, you want it?”

Niko sheepishly smiled. “For me, yes.”

“And me,” Olli said.

“Me too,” Aleksi chimed in.

Tommi and Joel smiled too and even though things weren’t perfect, as Joonas got in bed and cuddled with his mates that night, he knew everything was going to be okay.
