Chenford + Ashley isn't right for you

I don't have anything against Bailey, it's just that she hasn't spent time with Tim and Lucy outside of work and John Nolan is clueless so wouldn't have mentioned anything to her about them, so she wouldn't know better.

Work Text:

“Tamara! You home?” Lucy called out as she entered the apartment. She was all smiles as she set down her things. She could hear music coming from the younger girl's room so she knew she was home. She went and knocked on her door to announce herself before opening it up and sticking her head in, “I’m ordering delivery, you hungry?”

Tamara looked up at her from the bed where she had obviously been studying, “God yes. I lost track of time and don’t remember when I ate last. Let me just finish up this chapter and I’ll come out there and join you.” Lucy just nodded and smiled before heading back out to the kitchen where her phone was.

She had put in her order and was pouring herself a glass of wine when Tamara finally sat across from her on one of the stolls. “You’re happy.”

“What can I say, I had a good day”, Lucy replied with a smile. “I’ve got news.”

Tamara instantly perked up, “Oh my god! You finally had the talk with officer zaddy, didn’t you! This is fantastic! I knew you guys were perfect for each other.”

Lucy waved a hand out at Tamara with a confused look on her face, “Uhm, no. What are you talking about?”

Tamara looked momentarily chest fallen, “You know the talk where you say, ‘Tim, Ashley isn’t right for you. You should break up with her and date me instead.’ You know that talk.”

Lucy stares at her, speechless for a minute, “I’m sorry but where in the world did you get the idea that I would ever say that to Tim?”

Tamara just rolled her eyes, “I’m your roommate, and I have eyes. You two are stupid for each other. It’s so obvious you could see it from space.”

Lucy coughed on her wine a bit, “Tam! I can’t believe you just said that.” Tamara just shrugged and smiled at her. “Well I wouldn’t say that anyhow because she already broke up with him.”

Tamara looked at her wide eyed, “So you’re both single! Is that your news? That’s great!”

Lucy rolled her eyes, “No that is not my news. I have been selected for special training in Sacramento to expand my undercover skills. My career is on an upward trajectory. Plus Bailey set me up on a blind date with one of her army buddies while I’m up there. So that’s fun, right?”

“No, that is not fun. That is so wrong, I can’t believe she would do that.” Tamara was upset but then sighed, “Actually, now that I think about it, I do believe it. John is so oblivious it’s no wonder his girlfriend would be too.” Lucy just looked at her expectantly and a little disappointed, “What I meant to say was congratulations! This training is going to be so good for your career and you totally deserve to go. You’re awesome and it’s about time that the LAPD finally recognized it. So how long are you going to be gone for?” Tamara asked the last bit with some not so subtle hints in her voice that she might have ideas about what to do with the place to herself.

Lucy raised an eyebrow at her, “It’s only for a few weeks, so don’t go getting any ideas. I’m going to have people checking up on you while I’m gone.”

“Oh come on! I survived living on the streets, I can handle being home alone for a few weeks. I don’t need a babysitter.” Tamara whined. Lucy just shot her a knowing look. She was about to say something when there was a knock on the door.

“That was fast, but you know what, I am not going to complain because I am starving.” Lucy went and looked through the peephole expecting to see a delivery driver on the other side, but instead saw Tim Bradford. She opened the door and looked at him in confusion. Tim looked flustered, like he wasn’t sure what he was doing there, wiping his palms on his pants nervously.

Tamara just smirked and announced, “I’ll be in my room, with the music on, not paying any attention to what is going on out here. Just let me know when the food arrives.” And with that she all but bounces down the hallway to her room, closing the door behind her as she disappears inside.
