Work Text:

It was a few days after their talk in the shop and Tim still hadn’t come up with the words to say to Lucy, when she was tapped for the specialized training in Sacramento. It was just a matter of time before it had happened. Everything she had done undercover was phenomenal, she was bound to get noticed. Tim was really proud of her, knowing her career was going as well as he had known it would.

He wanted to tell her about his feelings for her. He wanted to know if she felt the same way about him, to see if they should try to pursue a relationship, but he felt like it could wait till she got back. At least that’s what he thought before Bailey told Lucy about an Army Reservist friend of hers who recently moved to Sacramento.

The guy was single and was very interested in taking Lucy out to dinner while she was up there. Lucy thought it was a great idea and seemed to be very excited about the blind date. The happier she got the more anger Tim felt. Angela seemed to notice his sour mood and pulled him aside at the end of shift. “Who pissed in the cheerios Bradford?”

Tim blinked at her, shocked out of his mood momentarily by her words. “What?”

“You’re more angry than I have seen you in a long while. What happened?” Angela asked him as she pulled him into the break room.

He rolled his eyes at him and grumbled, “I just wish Nolan’s girlfriend would stay out of other people's business. They really are perfect for each other.”

“You’re jealous!” Angela said with a big smile like she just broke a big case.

“No. Why would I be jealous of Nolan and his firefighter girlfriend?” Tim crosses his arms over his chest.

Angela tilted her head and smirked at her best friend, “I’m talking about the blind date she set Lucy up on.” Tim looked at her, slightly surprised, “Yeah I heard about it, and it’s so obvious that you are jealous thinking of Lucy dating someone else.”

Tim stared at her for a moment before sighing, and hanging his head. “Lucy can date whoever she wants, she’s a grown woman.”

Angela smiled at him, “That doesn’t change the fact that you want her to be dating you. You should talk to her about it, you know, before she gets offered a job in Sacramento. She’s getting noticed and other precincts are going to start trying to recruit her.”

Tim’s head popped up at her words, “You think she’d leave L.A.?”

“I think if she had something, or in this case someone to sweeten the pot she just might. If this date ends up being more than just a rebound thing it might be incentive enough for her. So maybe you should put a little sugar in her bowl, make her see the benefits of staying here.” Angela wiggled her eyebrows at the innuendo.

Tim groaned over her words, but quickly paled at the thought of Lucy finding happiness somewhere else, with someone else. It was like his anger had been dumped into a bucket of cold water. The thought of her leaving before he ever got a chance to tell her about his feelings was quite sobering.

Tim quickly headed to the locker room to catch Lucy before she left, but Nyla informed him she was already gone. He changed out and immediately headed over to her apartment.
