Work Text:
Robin insisted she wanted Steve and Eddie to join her to some party, but in reality Steve knew it was because she wanted a ride to and from. Eddie joining was probably just for the laughs because he owed Robin a favor and to her it came in the form of pushing him to be her emotional support at a party.
The thing was that it was outside of town in some random location and Steve honestly had no idea how Robin had heard of it in the first place. Apparently it was a secret party that got posted in secret locations and only those who found it could get the address.
Steve felt like indulging her this once.
“Robin, where the hell did you bring us?” Eddie says as he looks around to the big tall trees towering over them once they get out the car. “Ten bucks says we’re probably going to get murdered out here.” He continues with a laugh making Robin roll her eyes.
Steve looks around, it was quite literally in the woods. Deep into the middle of it he can see a bonfire and people gathered around it while others roam through the woods, others shuffling around a makeshift dance floor while pop music echoes around the empty woods.
“And I was the one that was accused of devil worshiping?” Eddie says as he looks to the people dancing around the fire once they walk in deeper into the woods. Steve snorts before looking at Robin who is scanning the crowd.
He personally didn't know many of the people there so really he could care less about having to linger around and make small talk. Him and Eddie had already decided on sticking together and if anything, Steve was glad Robin seemed to be having a good time. There was a specific girl she had mentioned to them, said she had met her a couple weeks back during band camp. It was apparent now that that's the only reason Robin wanted to come in the first place. After a couple of minutes of being there though, Steve admits that it honestly wasn’t so bad.
That was, until they all start to play spin the bottle.
Robin immediately dragged them both into the circle with her. Steve insisting he didn’t feel good about the possibility of having to kiss Robin because she was like a sister and Eddie was very clear he didn’t want to kiss a stranger but she was insistent.
“Just, please, for me? What if it lands on Anne, are you guys really going to be able to live with the fact that because of you two, I never got to kiss the most beautiful girl in the world and will be forever alone because you guys wanted to be losers?” She looks at them with raised eyebrows. Steve and Eddie sigh as they look at each other giving in.
Steve holds his arm out signaling to Eddie. “After you.” Eddie shakes his head with a grin before reaching out to push Steve forward by the shoulder. “After you, Harrington.”
And just like that, they find themselves sat in a circle with a bottle in the center. Eddie and Steve sat next to each other with Robin across from them.
They spin the bottle on a cardboard box and the first round of kisses go by. Steve kisses some girl across from him, barley missing Robin by an inch making him sigh a breath of relief when it stops on the girl beside her making him shoot Robin a glare to which she shrugs defensively to. Eddie ends up giving a quick kiss to the girl next to him and Robin, well, poor Robin gets to kiss the guy sat to the side of her. Steve stifles back a laugh as he looks to Eddie who only grins back.
It seemed impossible for Robin to land on her crush by the time the fifth round goes by and Steve leans over to mention it to Eddie who nods in agreement. They look over to Robin and put a finger up meaning one more round and we’re out. She pouts in response.
It gets to her crush's turn and they hold their breaths as the bottle slows down only to land back on her.
Steve glances up across at Robin as she breathes out a sigh of relief. The girl reaches forward again and spins it.
By some miracle it lands on Robin.
Her eyes widen and she quickly glances at Steve and Eddie.
“No way, two girls? As if.” Some girl says besides them making Eddie lean forward to glare at her.
“And what’s so wrong with that? I mean it is spin the bottle.” Steve responds back sternly.
Everyone turns to look between Robin and her crush.
“Yeah, babes kissing is totally hot.” Some guy who looks like he's as high as a kite responds with a sloppy sided smile across from Steve. Eddie rolls his eyes at the response.
“It’s okay. I can just...spin again.” Robin’s crush responds.
Steve turns to look at Robin with sympathy.
"No!" Eddie yells out hastily, the crowd turns to look at him just as he shrugs nervously at the attention, "It’s fair and square, you landed on her then you should kiss her. There is nothing wrong with it.” He finishes as he looks over at Robin with a reassuring nod. The crowd's attention remains on him as they take his words in. His eyes wander to the crowd around him as he clears his throat.
“C’mon, are you guys really that scared of two girls kissing?" Steve speaks up, trying to shift the attention off Eddie. "I mean, guys can do it too.” This time they all turn to Steve in shock. Eddie glances over to Robin who’s fiddling with her shoelaces nervously.
“So you do it then.” Some girl yells out to him. Steve opens his mouth to speak just as they all start to agree out loud. Some whistle teasingly while others laugh. Steve pushes his shoulders back as he shrugs, “Yeah, whatever it’s just a kiss.”
Steve starts as Eddie nods in agreement, “Yeah, it’s just a kiss.” He adds in.
“So kiss the guy next to you then.” The girl besides Steve says challengingly with a mischievous smirk.
Eddie gulps and turns to look at Steve who turns to look at him. They nod at each other, “Just a kiss?” Steve says as he looks at Eddie asking for permission.
Eddie nods along nervously, “Yeah, whatever just a kiss.”
Steve turns to him fully, a hand reaching for the back of his neck. He breathes out and looks at Eddie. “Ready?” He whispers. Eddie licks his lips unconsciously and nods. Steve leans forward then just as Eddie closes his eyes. Their lips meet and Eddie can smell Steve’s cologne from the proximity, nearly drowns in it.
Had he always smelt this heavenly?
They push their lips together forcefully, Steve's watermelon chapstick lathering over Eddie's lips. After a second they pull away and open their eyes, staring at each other in shock. The crowd around them remains quite. Most confused as to how to react waiting on the consensus reaction.
Steve breaks the trance and turns to look at people sat around. He runs his tongue across his lips and shrugs. His hand still on Eddie’s neck. “So let the girls kiss.” He says out loud, his eyes meeting with Robin.
She smiles at him shyly before turning to her crush who’s already crawling to her with a smile. Robin meets her in the middle and their lips finally meet. The boys whistle teasingly while some girls look around with red cheeks but still intrigued enough to not let their gaze linger away for too long.
Eddie’s eyes remain on Steve during the kiss, his lips tingling as he brings his bottom lip into his mouth.
Steve’s fingers remain wrapped around his neck and he turns to him then, “You okay?” He asks in a whisper.
Eddie nods dumbfounded. Steve smiles at him before removing his hand and sending a wink to Robin who mouths a ‘Thank You’.
Steve and Eddie stand up to leave after that round, Robin reassuring them with a smile as she stays sat in the circle.
They pair end up walking towards the woods away from the crowds. From where they stand they can hear cheers and laughs. Probably another pair of girls or guys kissing. Steve huffs out a laugh and shakes his head just as Eddie pulls out a cigarette and lights it.
“Sorry for putting you on the spot back there.” Steve says as they walk, the sound of twigs breaking underneath their feet.
Eddie shakes his head as he blows the smoke. “Nah, no worries. Glad Robin got her kiss, now she definitely owes us big time.” He responds with a smile.
Steve smiles back and nods in agreement. “So, how was it?” he asks.
Eddie furrows his eyebrows and turns to Steve. “How was what?”
Steve looks at him expecting a rating, “The kiss. How was our kiss?”
Eddie opens his mouth in realization and nods, he brings the cigarette to his lips and shrugs. “Not bad, I guess.” He says, the cigarette bouncing on his lips as he speaks.
Steve scoffs. “Not bad? That’s all you have to say?”
Eddie snorts and looks at him. “Yeah, I mean okay, I get why the girls go coo coo for Harrington, but I mean. It was a short kiss I can’t give you a full score.”
Steve grins at the response as he shakes his head making Eddie smile teasingly. “So let’s do it again.” he suggests confidently as he gestures at the other.
Eddie coughs out the smoke surprised at the request. Steve smirks at the reaction. “What do you mean?” Eddie asks dumbly after recuperating from his coughing fit.
Steve stops walking and turns to Eddie with a shrug. “You know, let’s do another kiss. See if it’s deserving of full marks.” Their is a playful tone to his words.
Eddie observes him, a skeptical expression on his face as he looks at Steve. “Yeah?” He asks back.
Steve nods and reaches for the cigarette in Eddie’s fingers. “Yeah.” He brings the cigarette to his own lips and inhales before blowing the smoke out. He dabs it out on the tree trunk behind Eddie before throwing it to the floor and stepping on it.
Eddie watches him, a grin tugging at his lips. “Okay then. Show me what you got, Harrington.” He says with a sudden surge of confidence.
Steve grins back before reaching forward to cup Eddie’s face. He pushes him back into a tree as their lips meet. This time his tongue slips through Eddie’s lips and a hand falls down to Eddie’s hips holding him in place. It's a longer kiss and definitely better. When Steve finally pulls back Eddie swears he’s seeing stars. He gulps down before opening his eyes to look at Steve.
“So?” Steve asks with a grin.
Eddie licks his lips, Steve’s saliva coating the bottom lip. “Four stars out of five.” He says as if he were unimpressed. Steve scoffs with indignation. “We might have to run it again though, I think the score meter is broken. Pretty sure you can get higher than four stars, Harrington.” Eddie says, his eyes not leaving Steve's lips.
Steve smiles at the response. “Yeah?” He asks.
Eddie nods before leaning against the tree. “So let’s go again till the meter works.” Steve suggests already leaning forward to pull Eddie forward against him so their hips meet.
Their tongues meet once again and this time Eddie wraps his arms around Steve’s neck.
Robin definitely did them both a favor with this one.
