Chapter 1: Familiar

Chapter Text

Freddy started to get out of bed after snoozing his alarm multiple times and walked his way to his mirror. As he started to brush his fur with his comb, he flinched at the sound of someone abruptly knocking at his door.

Freddyyyy! Are you getting ready? The new guy is going to be here soon to bring his things!” Chica sang playfully.

Freddy groaned tiredly, “I’ll be out in a bit Chica, just give me a few minutes.” Freddy then walked over to his closet and proceeded to open it, looking for what he should wear.

“Oh, alr-alright!” Chica stammered slightly, alarmed at the tone of Freddy’s voice.

Hah, he’s probably just tired, she thought to herself.

Despite this, Chica continued anyway, “Well- I also made some lunch for all of us downstairs! So don’t keep it waiting too long!” she exclaimed as she started to walk down the hall to the stairs to go back to the kitchen.

Freddy couldn’t believe it… Bonnie was really being replaced today. He knew the manager was bound to find someone to play his instrument eventually, however- it still didn’t feel real. To see someone else who he has no history with replacing someone so dear to him. He sincerely hoped the label made the right choice.

When Freddy no longer heard Chica’s footsteps, he continued to get ready for his new band mate.

Chica eventually walks to the kitchen where Roxanne is sitting at the dining table, eating some of the freshly made food.

“Hey, Roxy!” Chica said happily. She walked up to her, wrapping her arms around her from behind. Roxanne chuckled as she tried to pull away from Chica teasingly.

“How did talking with Freddy go? Is he still asleep?” Roxanne questioned. Chica eventually let go of Roxanne, her smile faltering. She looked down at the ground with uncertainty on how to phrase how she had been feeling.

Roxy had a feeling today would be hard on him. She knew he felt uncomfortable at the thought with someone new, having known all of his bandmates for years now. Having someone new felt out of place- however to find someone to be the bassist was eventually necessary.

Roxy looked at her girlfriend with sympathy, “Awe, hun… it will be okay. I’m sure eventually it will all work out.” comforted Roxy. Chica raised her head to look at the wolf, feeling as if it would be better if they did have a conversation about it.

The avian then shook her head, “Y-You don’t know that… I have a really bad feeling about this- maybe we should have asked for more time..!” Chica said as she fiddled with her fingers nervously attempting to soothe her anxiety at the thought of tension between everyone.

The wolf would shake her head in disagreement, her ears lowering back, “You know we couldn’t do that. Eventually we would have to go back to doing our shows- and you know our manager is not too keen on waiting much longer.” She held her hand, trying to soothe her worries. Chica looked at Roxy and smiled softly, looking down at their intertwined hands. It was sweet Roxy was at least attempting to try to make her feel better.

Chica sighed, “I guess you’re right…it just hurts seeing Freddy so sad.”

“Yeah, it does…but I have faith they will get along. I actually had a glimpse of him last week-” Roxy tried to explain, however was cut off by Chica and her excitement.

“Oh my God! Seriously?! Tell me everything about him!” she exclaimed, eyes gleaming in anticipation for the potential info of their new bassist.

Roxy’s eyes widened at the volume of Chica’s excitement. She then hurriedly put a finger over her beak attempting to quiet her down. “Chica, not so loud! I don’t want Freddy to come here and the first thing he hears when he walks in to get food is us talking about the animal he doesn’t want to even acknowledge!” she whispered urgently.

The avian nodded and lowered her voice, “Ah...well…what is he like? All I know is that he’s a guy who traveled from Louisiana to be a part of the band.”

At that, Roxy would nod in agreement. “Yup… I didn’t really get a good idea of his personality from just looking at him and our manager talking- but he seemed friendly and not the shy type.” The wolf would ponder on what info Chica didn’t know yet.

“Ooh so what animal is he?” Chica questioned curiously.

A lightbulb suddenly sets off in Roxy, remembering her girlfriend doesn’t know what animal he is, “Oh, right! He’s an alligator! Isn’t that cool?” She gushed excitedly, letting go of Chica’s hand to continue eating her pizza.

Chica’s beak gaped slightly at first, eyebrows raised with astonishment, then suddenly they furrowed in confusion. “Wait, an alligator? How could you tell? What if he was a crocodile?”

Roxy rolled her eyes playfully and looked away in thought, “Yeah duh I could tell. I mean, I automatically knew with his teeth, crocodiles usually have their teeth visible and alligators don’t.”

Ohhh gotchu. Well if you are excited, I’m excited!” The hen would grin warmly. Before Chica could continue the conversation, she heard steps going down the stairs. Both Roxy and Chica would turn their heads to the hallway, anticipating the bear.

The bear came into view and entered the kitchen. Surprisingly, he looked better than most days. Ever since Bonnie’s vacant spot, most of the time he looked disheveled unless they had a public appearance. This time, however, he looked more put together, wearing a recently ironed white button up tucked in with the sleeves rolled to his elbow, ash brown pants with a black belt wrapped around.

It seemed even though he was heavily against bringing someone new, he was still going to try to give a good impression.

Freddy gave a reluctant fixed smile, “Hey guys, how are you?”

Chica’s eyes gleamed amazement for Freddy’s unexpected attire, Roxy nudging her shoulder as a hint to reply, “Hey Fred! Roxy and I are doing pretty good. Also wow you look so good Fazbear!” Roxy nodded in agreement, waving to Freddy.

Freddy raises his eyebrows in surprise at the compliment, “Oh, wow, thanks Chica- I’m glad you guys are in good spirits.” Freddy would continue to make his way down to the cabinet with all the mugs and cups. As he opened the cabinet to see if his coffee mug was there, he noticed it was already sitting by a plate of food ready for him. Freddy would look back at the two confused by this.

“We thought you might appreciate your coffee all ready for you- um…” Chica would slowly trail off, unable to continue. However, Roxy stepped in, ears flattened, unable to look the bear in the eye, “Since we already made your lunch, we thought we might as well- I know today is going to be a long one for you Freddy.”

The room was left in silence, an uncomfortable one at that. Freddy would nod as a way to say thank you and would sit at the dining table to eat, however Chica would break the silence.

“We miss Bonnie too, Freddy…” Chica said, with tears welling up in her eyes just at the mention of his name. Freddy also tensed up at hearing the name ‘Bonnie’. No one has really been able to say his name out loud after his passing and just referred to the rabbit as ‘he or him’. Freddy could feel his throat closing up, so he took a sip of his coffee to try to make it subside. Freddy, with eyes furrowed, would just stare at the coffee mug and nod to make sure Chica knew that he heard what she said. Freddy then decided to change the topic to just remove himself from the conversation.

“So, when is the new guy coming in?” Freddy questioned.

Roxy took that as an opportunity to open her phone and check the time “Any minute now I think- they said 12:30 however it's 1:00-”

Freddy rolled his eyes slightly annoyed, “Sounds like someone who is competent…”, he would say sarcastically.

Roxy would snicker at the view of Freddy being annoyed “Pft yeah for real- you would think he would take his first day a little more seriously, huh?” she said, trying to play along to Freddy’s comment. However, it just left Roxy with a glare from him. The wolf would take that as a sign to just keep an eye out on when the alligator is arriving.

Just as when Roxanne was going to message her manager about the reptile, the band was startled by knocking at the door. Chica quickly hopped on her feet and walked towards it. When she opened the door, she was met with her manager, Vanessa, and the alligator everyone had been talking about himself.

Chica had to look up slightly to even meet his eyes- he wore a plain black shirt underneath a black denim jacket, plain black pants with silver chains that hung off from it, lastly paired with black shades covering his eyes. Even Chica thought he looked a bit intimadating.

“Hey, Chica! Sorry we were late, Montgomery here had a delayed flight.” Vanessa explained.

“Oh, that's alright! Just as long as it all worked out and you're here!”, Chica smiled warmly at the alligator. Realizing they are still in front of the doorway, Chica let them both in to introduce themselves.

Vanessa would continue to speak, “Okay, so, everyone, this is Montgomery. He just flew out here all the way from Louisiana! He never really traveled outside of there making Los Angeles is a really new environment for him, so please take the opportunity for the first few days to show him around.”  Roxy, Chica, and Freddy all nodded in understanding, expecting to be tour guides for a while so the new guy can become accustomed to this life.

There was an uncomfortable silence between the two groups, unsure of who should introduce themselves first. At last, Freddy sighed, and went up to the alligator who lifted his shades away from his eyes.

“So Montgomery, huh? It's…uh, nice to meet you.” Freddy said awkwardly, with a uncertainty to his voice. He reached out and offered his hand to give a hand shake, “I’m Freddy Fazbear, welcome to the band.”

Monty gave a good look at him, smirked to himself, and shook hands with the bear. “Nice to meet you too, Fazbear.” He continued, “I rather you all just call me Monty though, no need for formalities.”

Freddy noticed something about Monty’s eyes, they were a striking vibrant red with a magenta undertone. The way there was a glint in his eyes when he smiled seemed so welcoming…

This felt familiar.

The two had a small silence before Roxy broke it. “Okay, Monty, I’m sure you can tell us a bit about yourself in the living room.” she said, almost in an urgent tone.

“Sure. Vanessa, do you know when my stuff will arrive?” Monty asked, looking over to Vanessa who was seemingly deep in thought.

She looked up, eyes suddenly widening, remembering the things Monty needed to bring over, “ O-Oh! Uhh- most likely…tomorrow morning…- so hopefully you have a bed to sleep on..?” Vanessa looked over to Chica nervously.

Chica took the implication and tried to calm her worries, “Ohh yeah, you don’t have to worry about that! There’s a bed in the room you will be sleeping in, however if you think it's uncomfortable at all- I don’t mind buying ya a new one!”, the avain smiled warmly, trying to come off as welcoming as she can possibly be.

Vanessa sighed in relief, “Phew..okay, great. I’ll be back next week to check up on everyone so we can start your next show. Bye, guys!” Vanessa waved everyone goodbye and walked up to the front door to make her leave.

Afterwards, the four looked at each other awkwardly but would make their way to the living room. When they got inside, Chica and Roxy sat by each other in one couch, which left Monty and Freddy to sit next to each other on the other.

Roxy would be the first one to speak up, “So, Monty, tell us a bit about yourself and your life before you flew here”.

Monty seemingly was caught off guard for being asked about his history, “Oh! Uh..well- I promise you it's nothing really interesting. I came from my small town in Louisiana and have always been an aspiring musician hoping to make it big one day. I usually played at local bars and restaurants as a small gig to make money- then I saw the auditions going on for an open spot in this band. Since I’ve heard of you guys before and how well your career is going so far, I took the opportunity to see if I would be able to join. And to my surprise, here I am!” Monty replied honestly, Roxy would nod and continue to ask him more questions.

Freddy’s thoughts would wander off as the three would continue to get to know each other more. He couldn’t help that his brain was trying to dissociate from the conversation… he couldn’t help but think of Bonnie.

xXx

Freddy started to gasp for air after how long he was laughing for and didn’t give himself a moment to breathe. Freddy would smile warmly at the bunny, “ Bon- hahahaha! Stop making me laugh! We have to start practicing for the show tomorrow night!”

“Pft, alright, alright… whatever you say, Fazbear~” Bonnie would tease playfully. He grabbed his bass, looked at his notes for the song, and started to play. As he played, he would hum the melody trying to make sure each note sounded just right.

It was simply… beautiful. Bonnie was always talented with music, especially string instruments. Freddy, even though he was supposed to sing along, would just watch him in awe.

“So! Whatcha think? Sounded good, Freddy?” Bonnie would ask, chuckling to himself because of the bear’s unawareness that he was suppose to be playing with him.

“It was amazing! My deepest apologies… you, Chica, and Roxanne are all so good that I can’t help but stare sometimes- heh.” Freddy looked away shyly, scratching the back of his neck. He then reached for his mic and started to set it up.

“Aw no, Freddy, it's all good! I appreciate all the kind words you have given me and the rest of the band. You’re the best leader this band could ever ask for.”

“...Really? You think so?”

“Of course, remember we first formed our band? Well even though we were small, and pretty shy with performing in front of people, you still somehow made us feel like superstars. You would always make an effort to make us comfortable and make us laugh even when the gigs seemed to be dying out.”

Freddy would smile at the thought, “I’m happy you think of me so fondly… you're a good friend, Bonnie.”

Bonnie smiled with a glint in his magenta eyes, looking at him lovingly, “You too, Freddy.”

…unfortunately, Freddy and Bonnie’s moment was cut short to Roxy entering the room. “Hey losers!! Can you stop being all sentimental for two seconds and actually start practicing?!”

Bonnie would laugh earnestly, “Yeah yeah don’t worry Rox, we were just about to continue what we were supposed to be doing.”

But behind Roxy’s gaze, Freddy gave him a knowing look, and Bonnie winked back at him.

xXx

FREDDY! Are you there?” Chica would exclaim, trying to get the bear’s attention. Freddy flinched, seemingly out of the trance he was in, and looked at Chica in surprise.

Uhhhh, yup! Sorry, haha- was deep in thought.”

“Okay phew, thought I lost ya! Anyway, I think we’re all gonna head off to our bedrooms. You think you can show Monty his room while me and Roxy start up on dinner?” Chica asked curiously, hoping he would agree.

Freddy’s ears flattened, ready to give an excuse why he couldn’t- but decided it was best to at least help a bit. They did most of the talking after all, so it was the least he could do.

Freddy took a deep breath, he just needed to bring him to his room. No need to start a conversation, right? “Alright, sounds good. Ready, Montgomery?”

Absolutely , I’m exhausted after that flight.” Monty would yawn as he would get up from the couch.

As they made their way out of the living room and into the hallway, Monty would sneak some glances at the bear, unsure why he had a seemingly quiet standoff-ish nature towards him. So, Monty took this as an opportunity to talk to him.

“So, Fazbear, what made you want to become a singer in a band?”

Lord, have mercy on me…

Freddy would try to reply politely but also was hoping to keep the conversation short, “Always been a hobby of mine.”

“Ah.”

 “Well..uh…when is our next show?”

“I wouldn’t worry about it for now. Tomorrow we’re going to start practicing and Vanessa will let us know when our next show should be.” Freddy said dismissively.

They eventually reached Monty’s room, but the door was clear of any decoration or paint unlike the other bandmate’s doors. Freddy obviously knew why, I mean this room was previously Bonnie’s. He didn’t expect to go back to his room after so little time. As Freddy opened the door to a plain white room, the two stepped in and looked around at the bedroom hallow. Freddy looked at any hint of its previous belonging to, but it was just a plain mattress with a wooden bed frame.

Monty’s eyes widened in awe, “It’s so much bigger than my old room back in Louisiana- I can’t wait to bring my things in here to make it feel more like my bedroom, you know?” The gator would smile to himself, starting to look around, picturing where he would place certain items in the room.

Right…it would be your bedroom now.
