It’s been a long time since Tommy felt loved.
Love is reserved for good people. Affection, adoration, reverence—those things are only for the innocent, the good-hearted, the ones with light hearts and bright eyes. Tommy hasn’t considered himself a good person for a very long time.
A long time ago, he was a different person. A loudmouthed boy with a sunny smile and shining eyes, unmarred by the horrors of war and death.
He thinks he may have been loved, back then.
Things are different now.
