Steve exhales like a gasp. He doesn’t know why it surprises him that Eddie remembers. The boy is wonderfully astute at the best of times.
“Yeah,” Steve drawls. Eddie squeezes him gently.
“Got that fancy dinner thing.” Steve gulps and nods, eyes closed so he can better see the snapshots of his nightmares, the prying disapproving eyes of his parent’s so-called friends as Steve is trotted out like an animal at a county fair. The parenting equivalent of a booby prize.
