“ I-is there anyway y-you can make a slightly custom drink?” a voice piped up, breaking Haruto from his thoughts. He blinked away his confusion, meeting the eyes of a short blond boy with the most stunning jade green eyes he has ever seen wow alright he’s really cute.
“Ah yeah sure, depending on what it is, what would you like?” Haru stop getting distracted, you’re working here, just get the cute boy his drink
“I just.. want the caramel milkshake with extra car-caramel syrup in it. Without any coffee. “ The boy looked away , embarrassed by his own request. Haru could see a faint blush begin to paint his cheeks cute.
Haru let out a small chuckle” That should be no problem at all, can I have a name for this order”
“T-Theo” Haru smiled as he marked up his cup. He even has such a pleasant voice, it's so soft.
“Well Theo, I will get started on your drink and call you when it’s ready”
The blond boy who Haru now knows is named Theo, gave him a small smile before walking over to the waiting area. Damn.. he really is cute.. Haven’t I seen him before though.. He seems oddly familiar. Where.. Where have I seen him?
He walked into the back , almost bumping directly into his coworker Chise who was restocking the flavored syrups.
“Hey, earth to Haru, what do you have to make” Chise broke him from his thoughts
“Oh just a caramel milkshake with extra caramel and, get this, no coffee.” Haru giggled
Chise was not as amused about this fact, rolling his eyes “What the hell, this is a coffee shop and he didn’t even order a coffee. Whatever you’re making that one then” Chise scoffed, walking over to grab the blender for Haru.
“That’s what I figured. But Chise, look at who ordered it, doesn’t he look familiar.. I feel I have seen him before?”
Chise glanced over in the direction of the waiting area. The one named Theo was shifting his weight from one foot to the other and looking around the cafe with a slightly nervous expression painted across his face.
Chise laughed” That’s such a cheesy pick up line Haru, if you think he’s cute just tell him, you probably won’t see him again anyway”
Haru blushed as he put the caramel syrup into the cup. “Shut up Chise, I am being serious here, he seems oddly familiar.”
“I mean maybe a little, maybe he’s come in before, we get so many customers though so you could be mixing him up with another”
“There’s no way he’s been here before, he asked me if we do custom drinks and all.. He seemed really nervous” Haru relayed their interaction to Chise.
“Ah so you like the nervous cute ones hmm interesting interesting” Chise teased, bumping Haru on the shoulder.
“I told you Chise, shut up I am just making an observation” Haru pushed Chise back. He placed the cup onto the blender , adding in more caramel syrup. Chise watched on in disgust, shaking his head. Ah crap wait I forgot to ask if he wanted whipped cream… I'll just call him over. I can do this. You're brave Haru.
Turning on the blender, Haru rushed to the counter ” Theo? I have a quick question for you”
The boy jumped from his thoughts and rushed quickly over to the counter “W-what is it?” He stuttered out.
Haru gave him a reassuring smile “Loosen up it's nothing bad! Don’t worry, just did you want whipped cream on your drink?”
Theo lost the tension in his shoulders as he smiled “Ah, y-yes I do please.” Theo made eye contact with Haru before quickly looking back at the floor.
“Alright! It’s almost finished! It’ll be right out “Haru gave a small wave as he left.
“Now that you mention Haru, that boy is wearing the uniform for the art shop across from us. Maybe you’ve seen him in the mall” Chise spoke up.
"Oh that's probably it, wait.. so that means I will see him again!" Haru could feel himself getting very excited, much to Chise's dismay.
Haru grabbed the whipped cream from the fridge, giving Theo’s drink a fancy swirl on top. “Should I decorate the cup, Chise.. I should decorate it…”
Chise just shook his head “Haru you have had a total of two interactions with this boy, no need to be this hung up on it. Decorate the damned cup if it makes you feel better at night.” Haru laughed “okay okayyyy Chise I get it I get it”
“Seriously it took one tiny smile from him and you’re already head over heels. You’re worse than me” Chise teased once more
“Okay Mr. I have been pining after my childhood idiot best friend for years. The childhood best friend who’s probably straight. “
“Geez Haru, don’t need to go straight for my heart. Just go give your little boy his drink” Chise chided out, embarrassed. Chise walked away in a rush, grabbing the sanitizing bucket.
Hehe payback, he can only tease me so long until I pull out the Kino card.
Haru picked up his marker and wrote Theo on the cup, before deciding to draw a little flower next to his name. Hopefully , I’m not too obvious. I just want to see him again.
Haru grabbed the caramel syrup and squirted it on top of the whipped cream before placing the lid on Not my finest work, but hey, cold drinks are hard to work with .
“A caramel milkshake for Theo!” Haru yelled out, even though Theo was still the only one in the waiting area. Theo smiled as he walked over to take the cup from Haru’s hand.
“Tha-Thank you” He replied softly, gently taking the cup from Haru.
“Of course! I hope to see you around more often” Haru beamed, before he got hit with the realization of what he said Oh crap I said that outloud. Theo seemed confused by the comment as he took a sip from the drink. Haru, however, did not miss the tiny little smile that spread across his face. Oh good , he likes it at least. His smile is really cute.
“It’s.. it’s just not every day I don’t have to make some complicated coffee order, I like when I am able to switch it up. “ Haru scratched the back of his neck There’s no way I saved this
Haru was shocked to hear a light pleasant sound fill the waiting area. He’s laughing? I made the cute boy laugh, a win for Haru!! Wow what a lucky day, I should go buy a lottery ticket.
“Do-Don’t worry I’ll be coming back here . I-I just moved to the area and picked up a job at that a-art store across from here.” Theo sipped his drink again, avoiding Haru’s gaze.“ you make a really great milkshake, thank you” his voice was barely a whisper.
Haru blinked back, stunned, but he could feel the heat rush to his face as he smiled.
Oh my god what is this, what is happening it really is my lucky day, not only did I make the cute boy laugh, he complimented me.
Haru held out his hand to him “The name’s Haruto, but my friends call me Haru ! I would like to formally welcome you to the area “
Theo hesitated before taking his hand, “Theo, i-it’s very nice to meet you ..Haru..” He looked away, but Haru could see the blush on his face He’s so cute.
“Well, when did you mov-” Haru jutted forward with a hard slap from Chise. Haru turned around to see Chise annoyed by his little flirting attempts.
“Get back to work Haru, we have customers waiting”
Haru laughed, rubbing the back of his head ” Okay, bye Theo, see you soon?” Haru rushed back over to the cash register. But as he left he could hear that beautiful light laugh fill the waiting room.
Oh crap. I really am in a little too deep.
