“Rhaenyra,” Alicent chides gently, directing her concern at her luggage. “This all seems so sudden.”
To Alicent, it is, but Rhaenyra has been planning this day for the last five years. In her worst drug-fueled fever dreams, she has imagined her revenge in a million different ways, and the montage of her favorite fantasies, carried inside her mind at this very moment, guides her toward the dresser.
In the top drawer, she finds the hard case amongst her bras and panties. Alicent repeats her name, but Rhaenyra ignores her and undoes the clasps. Carefully, she unwraps the bundle, removing the black oiled cloth, revealing something blacker, heavier, deadlier. At the sight of Blackfyre, her pulse slows to a pleased pace, the lethal heft of it an indulgence she rarely offers herself. It is a special occasion. It will have its last meal soon.
