Work Text:
Bilbo felt like pulling his hair out. The dwarves were locked up, thanks to Nori stealing all the silver cutlery from an inn they had been dining in.
"Bloody Nori and his bloody ideas," Bilbo muttered, pacing back and forth. He kicked a rock in his anger, and it slipped on the ground before hitting the leg of a woman, who lifted her eyes to Bilbo at his words.
"I'm sorry. Did you say Nori?" Bilbo frowned and nodded, and the woman sighed, squeezing the bridge of her nose.
"Does this Nori happen to have two brothers? Going by the names of Dori and Ori?" Again, Bilbo only nodded numbly.
"Oh Durin what has he done now?" She exclaimed and turned to Bilbo, who was standing, frozen in place, not understanding why the woman reacted the way that she did.
"I'll have to get some money to bail him out. You can wait at my house, I'll bring them here." You said, and Bilbo, surprised and dazed by the sudden turn of events, nodded yet again.
The woman seemed to catch onto his mood, and she smiled.
"Everything okay?" Bilbo shook his head forcefully, trying to recover from the fast pace of events.
"Yes, yes. Everything is moving quite fast." She laughed and began walking along the street, and Bilbo had to clamper after her.
A moment later, Bilbo had learned that the woman's name was Y/N and she was the fourth 'ri' sibling, born between Nori and Ori. At the moment, you were seething with anger and you stomped over to the guards' house, greeting the keeper and having a short conversation with him before handing him a pouch of coins. Then, you marched to the cells, where a guard was waiting for you, with the keys to the cell.
As the door creaked open, a stunned voice of Dori rang through the dungeon.
"Y/N?"
"Hello." She greeted everyone casually, but no-one could move a muscle before she stormed to Nori and grabbed his ear and started to drag him out of the dungeon.
"Ow! Let go! OW! Y/N!" Nori's words fell for deaf ears, and Ori and Dori jogged after the two. The rest of the company had no idea what was going on, but they decided to follow the 'ri' brothers as they seemed to have and idea what was going on.
When they reached a cozy-looking stone house at the outskirts of the village, she let go of Nori's ear, who rubbed it to relieve the pain. Bilbo watched the scene unfolding in front of him, lifting his eyes from the book he had grabbed off one of the dozens of shelves. He was sipping tea out of a small mug that you had provided for him. Nori didn't get much of a brake as you turned to him with burning eyes and started to lecture him again.
"I - told - you - to- behave! Why - didn't - you - behave? Could - you - just - once - in - your - life - do - as - I - said?" Every word was emphasized with a poke, and Nori flinched every time her finger came in contact with his chest.
"I can't help - OW - it! It - OW - just happens!" Nori tried to back away from the enraged dwarrodam, but she kept scolding him, and her pokes just got more powerful when time passed. No-one had the courage to try and go in between the two, so they just stayed back, watching the scene unfold in front of them.
Your fury shows no signs of easing, so Dori, feeling slightly bad for Nori, who is red-faced and crouched over under your fury, decides to step in.
"Y/N, I think you got your message to him." He gently proposes, and you turn to him, and let out a breath.
"You might be right." You sigh and hug him. Ori comes forward, beaming, and you pull him into an embrace as well, kissing his cheek as you did so.
"Good to see you two. You, on the other hand..." She sent a sharp look at Nori, who looked at his shoes.
"Could you try and not cause trouble everywhere you go?" She asked, pulling him to a hug, during which he muttered something the others could not hear.
Thorin, who had been quiet and watching the exchange, finally decides to speak up.
"I'm sorry, but who are you, exactly?" You turn to him and take in his appearance. Yup, the way he holds himself is regal, he is royalty.
"My name is Y/N, I am the fourth 'ri' sibling." Dori, Nori, and Ori receive looks at this, as they have not told about your existence to anyone. Dori huffs and Nori answers with a pointed tone.
"Whould you have told if she was your sister?" The answer is clear in the faces of the company members. No. Dwarven women are protected, and they are kept hidden by their families until they marry. Then, it's the husband's job to keep them hidden.
"We are sorry just to barge in like this," Balin spoke up, glancing at Thorin, who got the hint. He should have thanked her in the first place.
"We thank you for helping us out of the cells. How did you find us in the first place." You shook your head and pointed at Bilbo, who gave a wave from his spot from the armchair.
"It's no problem at all. Bilbo told me about Nori getting in trouble and I knew where I had to go to find him." The dwarves stared at Bilbo, just now realizing that he didn't get locked up in the first place, as he didn't argue against the guards and behaved decently in general.
"But we truly are sorry for barging in like this." Thorin sincerely apologized, but you just waved it off.
"It's nothing. Besides, if you bring a cutie like this with you every time, feel free to crash my house anytime you want." She sent a wink to Bilbo, who blushed deep crimson and got pointed glances from your brothers. You shook your head at their protectiveness and turned to the company.
"You must be starving. How about we get a little supper?" Your suggestion was met with excited mutters, and you led them to your kitchen.
