Holy Fire Changes Sight

Summary:

Day 3: Complex or Glasses

Glasses

~

"They were so very Cas in Dean’s opinion. Dean wasn’t exactly sure what angel wings were meant to look like in this form, but that didn’t really matter to Dean. Cas’ wings were perfect. In the back of his head, though, Dean thought that he was glad that he was not Cas’ enemy."

Notes:

I wanted to work on some stuff in October, but I wanted to do my own word prompts for each day.

This one is a day late, but I figured I'd post it now.

Day 3:
Complex or Glasses

I picked "Glasses".

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Dean thought that the holy fire glasses only meant he would see hellhounds.

What he wasn’t expecting to see through the glasses was Cas. He doesn’t mean Empire State Building Cas, but tall, dark and handsome with wings Cas.

Cas’ wings were held tight to his back as he walked away from Dean. They had just finished killing the hellhound after all.

“Cas…” Dean’s voice caught as he said his name.

Cas turned around at the sound of his name and Dean could see as Cas’ wings unfurled behind him in what, if Dean didn’t know any better was a fighting position.

They were huge wings. They looked possibly like raven feathers, but Dean didn’t know much about birds. The black feathers seemed to be slick like oil, and with the shine of Baby’s headlights they seemed to change into a rainbow of colors like gasoline. They were beautiful and fearsome.

They were so very Cas in Dean’s opinion. Dean wasn’t exactly sure what angel wings were meant to look like in this form, but that didn’t really matter to Dean. Cas’ wings were perfect. In the back of his head, though, Dean thought that he was glad that he was not Cas’ enemy.

“Dean—”

“You—your wings…” Dean interrupted. He was mesmerized by the beauty of them.

Cas’ face held a lot more surprise than it usually might, at Dean’s words.

His wings shuddered a moment and then went back to their resting position at Cas’ back. Almost seeming to hide.

“You can see my wings?” Cas asked with unexpected shyness.

“Yeah… They’re beautiful, Cas.” Dean told him. Dean moved closer to Cas as he spoke. “Are they always there?”

Cas blushed at Dean’s compliment. “Yes, Dean. They are always there. They aren’t corporeal most of the time, but it seems that glasses dipped in holy fire allows the wearer to see an angel’s wings.” Cas said.

“Would it be possible for me to see them with out the glasses? To… physically… interact with them?” Dean stumbled over his second question as he tried to make it sound the least amount of creepy.

Cas looked at Dean for a moment before speaking, “Once we are back in the safety of the bunker, I will attempt to better explain my wings to you.”

“Okay.”

As they both headed for the car, Dean took off the Holy Fire Glasses. His mind’s eye still picturing the majestic wings.
