Work Text:

“No. Anything but that.”

“It’s Shijie’s turn, A-Cheng. This is what she wants.”

Wei Ying leans back in the chair, and Jiang Cheng uncharitably hopes he’ll tip over and get a concussion, and then the group costume thing will be off.

“What about the Ghostbusters?” Jiang Cheng tries. “They have nice, comfortable coveralls. Lots of pockets! I’ll help you sneak booze into the party!”

Wei Ying sits up and looks thoughtful for a moment, but it’s a ruse.

“No can do, baby bro. I promised Lan Zhan I wouldn’t get blitzed this year.”

Jiang Cheng groans. Of all the times for Wei Ying to be mature.

“Scooby-Doo… no,” Jiang Cheng cuts himself off when Wei Ying pales, “no, that’s not fair. Sorry.”

Wei Ying swallows hard and takes a moment to regain his composure.

“Look, we need something for five people. Shijie figures this is the last year she’ll be able to really go wild and sexy—“

“Oh, my god.”

“—for a while.” Wei Ying gestures for Jiang Cheng to sit beside him and hands him a beer once he’s settled. “The Spice Girls were her favorite band.”

Jiang Cheng groans again. “Why does the Peacock get to be Sporty, though? He should be Posh, the bastard.”

“Because Shijie is too kind and told him he could wear a tracksuit.” Wei Ying takes a drink from his own beer. “He’s gotta wear a crop top, though. That was my condition.”

“He’ll hate that,” Jiang Cheng says morosely. “I guess it makes sense that Wangji is Scary.”

“Hey now,” Wei Ying says, half-heartedly smacking Jiang Cheng’s arm. “That’s actually fair. Lan Zhan looks amazing in leopard print.” He looks off into the distance and licks his lips. “I’m gonna have so much fun tearing the—“

“Okay, okay! That’s enough! La la la! I cannot listen to this!” Jiang Cheng covers his ears before he can hear anything more about his brother’s post-party plans. “You’re all terrible people.”

Wei Ying grins, and Jiang Cheng rolls his eyes.

“Fine. Fine! But I get to be Ginger, or I won’t do it.”

Wei Ying pumps his fist. “Hell yeah! Ying-Ying is Baby!”

“Oh god, okay,” Jiang Cheng says, rolling his eyes and shoving his brother. “If you’re gonna be gross, I’m leaving.”

Jiang Cheng regrets everything that brought him to this moment.

Until he sees Huaisang with his brother and his brother’s partners dressed up as James Bond, Q, M, and …

“Wai Lin, Tomorrow Never Dies,” Huaisang says. He absolutely owns the black leather jumpsuit and heels inspired by Michelle Yeoh's character. “Love the Union Jack dress,” he says, eyes raking over Jiang Cheng with obvious appreciation.

Jiang Cheng’s mouth goes dry, and he has to take a moment to think some very unsexy thoughts.

“You look good,” he rasps, and Huaisang beams.

Wei Ying slings an arm around Jiang Cheng’s shoulders.

“Costume contest is in an hour,” he whispers. “You just gotta keep it together until then.”

It’s gonna be a great night.

A silly modern AU. Imagine that it is early days in the SangCheng relationship.
