Work Text:

“How would that even work?” Jiang Cheng turns the book, one of the spring books Huaisang smuggled into Cloud Recesses, from side to side. “I mean, I guess if you had strong arms like a Lan, you could hold yourself while — no, no! No, I do not want to think about that.

Huaisang looks up from his own book and cackles when he notices which book Jiang Cheng has.

“First of all, Jiang-xiong, that book isn’t meant to be an instruction manual. Look at the title.”

Jiang Cheng looks at the cover and blanches when he notices the word yaoguai. He tosses the book at Huaisang and glares at him with a look that Huaisang calls “scared-yet-horny.” Huaisang would laugh, but he doesn’t want to spook him. He just got the uptight Jiang heir comfortable with real-life kissing and normal fictional, hypothetical fucking. He isn’t going to undo his hard work. And anyway, he should have been more careful when he handed Jiang Cheng a book. Still, because he is a, quote, devious little shit, he can’t help teasing a bit more.

“Secondly,” he says when he hands Jiang Cheng a more appropriate volume, “I bet Wangji and your brother —“

“No! Huaisang, no! Gods, why are you so perverted?” Jiang Cheng flings the second book back at Huaisang and turns to glare a hole in the wall.

Huaisang retrieves the book and smooths out a crease in the cover. It’s one of his favorites. It has a good story and top-notch illustrations. He’s harbored more than one fantasy about acting out a scene with Jiang Cheng.

He sighs and puts the books away before returning to the bed and tugging the sleeve of Jiang Cheng’s robe.

“Jiang-xiong,” he tries with minimal whining in his tone. “A-Cheng. Come on. I’m sorry. I wasn’t paying attention.” When Jiang Cheng refuses to turn around, Huaisang slides up behind him and rests his chin on Jiang Cheng’s shoulder. “I’m sorry, A-Cheng. I won’t tease you anymore.”

“Do you really like all that … stuff?” Jiang Cheng asks, his voice small. “You want to do … that … with people?”

Huaisang sighs. “Some of them,” he says, because honesty is the best policy with Jiang Cheng. “But not with people.” He kisses Jiang Cheng’s cheek. “With you.”

“What!? With —“

Huaisang puts his arms around Jiang Cheng’s waist and squeezes him until he calms down. “Not everything in those books, and not unless you want to,” he says firmly. “But yes. I am attracted to you, Jiang Wanyin, and yes, I want to have sex with you someday.”

Jiang Cheng finally turns around. “What if you have to wait a long time?”

“Then I’ll wait,” Huaisang says simply.

“I’m not worth it.”

“You are.” Huaisang puts a finger over Jiang Cheng’s lips when he tries to argue. “You are worth it to me.”

Jiang Cheng kisses him then.

“Okay,” he says.

“Okay,” Huaisang agrees. “You wanna make out before dinner?”

“Yeah,” Jiang Cheng says, and it’s enough for now.

Notes:

I'm putting this in my Vague Modern Cultivators AU series, but it could also go with my story Red Hills, which is based on that VMC series but re-written for a longer, more coherent fic.
