Work Text:
Charles was always a night owl. His telepathy made it hard for him to sleep, other people's dreams often kept him up.
So he used those sleepless nights for reading, research, and other more enjoyable activities.
He usually fell asleep when most of the minds around him awoke in the morning, and slept till the afternoon.
This rhythm worked for him while he was alone, but destiny worked in a very unfathomable way, and he ended up meeting Erik on that fateful night on the boat.
Falling for him was easier than the leap from that boat, but it indeed came with an unfortunate surprise.
Erik was an early riser. And Charles was very much not.
The morning after their first night together - a very exhausting one in the best way, - Charles was woken at an ungodly hour.
"Good morning, sunshine!" Erik was in an uncharacteristically good mood. "Care to join me for a run?"
Charles looked at him like Erik grew two heads. "Are you out of your mind? Do you know what time it is? And how can you even think about running after last night?"
Erik winked at him. "I'm tougher than I look. So that's a no for the jog? Come on, it would do you some good."
Charles pulled the blanket over his head with an indignant huff. "You know what would do me some good? More sleep. You go off and do your thing, and I will stay exactly where I am and do mine."
"And maybe when I get back you can do me too," Erik thought with a chuckle.
"Not if you keep me up. I would need my strength for that," Charles groaned from under the blanket.
"You did not mind me keeping you up last night," Erik said from the door. "Sweet dreams, sleepyhead."
And with that Erik was out, and Charles pulled the blanket off his head. "This will be a problem."
Maybe he just had to wear Erik out some more. That thought was comforting enough for Charles to fall asleep again.
