“I want to see my 70 billion won before I go,” Injoo barely let out, the blue orchid drink getting to her head.
“Right! You had a tough time bringing it here. Of course, you can see it one last time,” Sang-ah exclaimed, rushing towards the suitcase that ‘held’ the money.
The loud thud of the suitcase hitting the ground confused Sang-ah. ‘Money isn’t that heavy’ she thought. She brushed off the thought and opened it up only to be faced with a suitcase full of bricks. ‘No wonder why,’.
Injoo dragged her feet across the floor, getting drowsier by the second. The gun that Doil had given her earlier in the day was now in her hands, pointed at Won Sang-ah.
“ I love it when you make that face. You’re like a little child who lost her toy, ” Injoo remarked, smirking at how Sang-ah’s face dropped.
“I was having so much fun until just a moment ago,” Sang-ah complained as if that’d help anything.
“Did you think I’d be that stupid? Did you seriously think I’d believe Hwayoung was alive?” She questioned, walking closer, gun steady in her hand.
“Yes,” Sang-ah nodded and tilted her head. Just then, a group of her men walked in, intimidating Injoo.
Grabbing her arm, the man twisted it and took the gun from her hands. He pushed her down onto the floor and Injoo could only moan in pain.
“To think that you could do something with that thing. You really must be stupid. No matter what you do, this story will end with your death,”
“If I die, how are you going to find the 70 billion won?”
“That chump change doesn't mean anything to me. Do you think this is about money? I’m an artist,” She bragged.
“I'll just imagine that I filmed a 70-billion-won blockbuster,”
‘ You psychopath’ Injoo thought. No one in this family was sane and Injoo was well aware of that.
*Ding dong*
It was a hotel worker. He had a familiar-looking paper airplane in his hands as he informed them about how littering could get them fined.
“There was a report that someone flew this from the balcony. This is against the apartment house rules. You must pay 1000 dollars as a fine,”
“Did you do it?” Sang-ah asked Injoo angrily.
Injoo pursed her lips and thought for a while. “Well… I got bored while waiting,”
“Don’t you know you could get fined just for littering in Singapore?!” Sang-ah yelled as she motioned her men to open the door to pay the fine.
*Bang*
The man got hit right in the face with a fire extinguisher. It was Doil . He beat the rest of the men and his eyes immediately dropped knot Injoo’s figure on the floor with blood all over her clothes.
“Are you here for the money? Too bad. It’s not here,” Sang-ah asked the familiar acquaintance.
“I have a good idea,’ Motioning her men to stop, she grabbed the gun out of his hand and pointed it around the room while explaining her ‘play’.
“You two fought over the money. Then she ended up shooting you and jumped to her death. It's a nice ending, wouldn't you say?” Sang-ah pulled the trigger and pointed it toward Doil after sharing her ‘good’ idea.
Doil’s hands slowly make their way to his pocket to grab something. “ I'm not here for the money,”. His eyes glanced at Injoo on the floor. ‘I’m here for her ,’ He thought.
Thinking he was going to pull out another gun, Sang-ah shot without any hesitation. Barely missing his heart by a few centimeters.
Not wanting to be caught at the scene, Sang-ah ran away, leaving an injured Doil and half-passed-out Injoo at the scene all alone.
“Mr. Choi!!” Injoo yelled out in shock, crawling towards his body on the floor.
“Please stay with me! I’m calling the ambulance right now. Just keep your eyes open for me,” She begged him, hands on the gunshot wound to prevent any more bleeding. It wasn’t long until she passed out herself due to the orchid drink.
Doil’s eyes slowly fluttered open, flinching at the bright hospital lights.
‘What happened?’ He asked himself while trying to move, the pain on the left side of his chest not allowing him to.
His eyes shifted to his right, finding Injoo's unconscious body laying there.
“Thank god she’s safe,” He told himself in a whisper. Relief spread throughout his body after knowing she was safe.
Ignoring all the pain he felt, he got up and sat on the chair next to Injoo’s bed.
“I can’t believe I let that happen to you. I should've never let you leave my side. I’m sorry. It’s all my fault,” He apologized, caressing her hair.
Injoo shifted awake and the second she laid her eyes on Doil, she pushed herself out of bed and jumped into his arms.
“Mr.Choi! You’re safe. You’re here. You’re safe, ” She said as if she was trying to convince herself of that.
“Yes. I’m safe. I’m here, ” He accepted her hug, gently patting her back as she remained still in his embrace.
She pulled away, cupping his face next, checking for any injuries.
“Good. You don’t have any injuries on your face. We can’t be ruining your handsome face,”
“But what about you?” He asked.
“Me?!” She asked, confused about what he meant.
“You have injuries all over your face,” He said as he cupped her face, thumb gently tracing all the scars on her face.
“I can’t believe I let your pretty face get this injured,” He whispered as he looked at her face closely.
A few days later:
“You two can be discharged now. But you, Choi Doil- ssi , need to be back in two weeks to get the stitches out,” The doctor informed the two of them.
“I can’t do that. I’ll be in Greece then,”
“Since you won’t be here, I’ll send your medical documents to a doctor in Greece, and you’ll be able to take them out there,”
“That’s great. Thank you,” They both thanked the doctor and immediately made their way to the airport to go to Greece.
“I’m so sorry, but unfortunately we only have one room here,” The hotel receptionist informed them and apologized for the inconvenience.
“Let’s check other hotels then,” Doil suggested but was stopped by the grip Injoo had on his arm.
“Let’s just take it. You’re injured right now. We can’t look around every hotel in Greece when you’re in this condition”
“But you’ll be uncomfortable sharing a room,”
“It’s fine. I don’t mind it, so let’s just check in,” She didn’t wait for his answer and pulled him back to the reception desk.
“Once again, I apologize for the inconvenience. I will take your baggage and lead you two to your room,”
“This here is your room. We will be at your service 24/7 so please do call if some problem arises or if you want anything,”
“Thank you,” Injoo thanked the staff and unlocked the door, Doil following her from behind.
Doil wasn’t paying attention to his surroundings, just dragging their suitcases into the room. He was stopped by Injoo’s body blocking him from going any further into the room.
“What’s wrong, Injoo- ssi ?”
“I didn’t know this room only had one bed,” She said in complete shock.
‘Why did I say we could stay?’ She beat herself up in her mind as Doil remained quiet behind her.
“So, since you’re injured, I’ll take the floor. You take the bed,” Injoo suggested as she walked to the space by the corner.
“No. You take the bed. I’ll take the floor. How am I supposed to let you sleep on the floor?” He rejected her suggestion and slightly nudged her towards the bed.
“Then how about…” She grabbed onto his arm “we just share the bed. It’s pretty big so we’ll just sleep on different sides,”
Doil looked unsure of her suggestion but eventually gave in.
It was night time and they had both just returned from eating dinner.
“I’ll take a shower. You must be tired after all the driving and booking everything so you should take a nap,” Injoo said as she got her shower items and entered the bathroom.
“I’ll try,”
He heard the shower turn on and tried falling asleep to the sound of the water falling but he couldn’t. Just then, he remembered to disinfect his wound with the medicines the doctor prescribed before he left for Greece.
He took his shirt off and tried applying the cream but just couldn’t. The wound was in a blind spot and he couldn’t see where he was applying for the medicine.
Injoo finished showering and walked out to him half-naked.
“Oh! I’m so sorry. I didn’t know you were treating your wound,”
“It’s fine. But I have a favor to ask,” He reassured her while watching her pace around the hotel room door.
“What is it?”
“I’m having some trouble treating my wound since it’s in a blind spot. Could you treat it for me?”
Injoo froze on the spot. ‘Treat his wound for him? When he’s half-naked?!’ She panicked for a while but calmed herself down before replying to him.
“Yes. I’ll help you. I’m the one who made you end up like that,” She said as she hesitantly walked toward him.
“You just need to put this on, then this, and then finally wrap the wound once again,” He instructed her as she looked at the unfamiliar medicines in her hands.
“Okay. Tell me if it hurts,”
Doil nodded at her request and titled his head up to give her a better view of the wound.
Injoo treated his wound in silence. From disinfecting it to applying the cream, to wrapping it back up.
Doil expected her to move away once she was done helping him out but watching her stay in the same position confused Doil.
Her head was faced down and Doil could sense something was wrong.
“Injoo-ssi, what’s wrong?” He asked her, his hands on her shoulders.
That’s when he realized she was crying. Injoo was crying.
“What’s wrong? Does something hurt? Are you okay?” He bombarded her with questions, worried about why she was suddenly crying.
“It hurts, ”
“What hurts? Just tell me. I’ll take you to the hospital,” He rushed to stand up, only to be pulled back down onto the bed.
“It hurts to see you like this . I can’t believe I let this happen to you. I feel so bad that I can’t even look at you,”
“You didn’t do this to me. I did this to myself. I failed at protecting you and this was the cost I got for that. So don’t blame yourself,”
“How can I not? I ran away and got myself in danger and then got you in danger too,”
“Injoo-ssi, Look at me,” He said, his hand on her chin, tilting her head up.
“I’m fine. This will heal in a few days and it’ll only leave a small scar,”
He took her hand in his and placed it on the wounded area.
“ I’ll let you hold onto my heart , and I won’t run away. I’ll stay with you during your good times and bad times even if you tear me apart. You know I will always stay ,”
He wiped her tears away and cupped her face, “Cause it’s better to try and love too hard than to always be stuck at the start. So I’ll let you hold onto my heart, cause’ loving you is worth all the scars ,”
He took a deep breath in, preparing himself to confess what had been on his mind the very first day he met her. “I never regretted liking you. I always thank god every day for letting me meet someone like you. Someone I can rely on. Someone who can make me laugh every time they’re with me. Someone I love. I need you to know this whole thing isn’t your fault. I brought you into this and I keep on putting you in danger. But the weird thing is, I can't let you go even though I know how dangerous this is. I want—no, I need you by my side. I can’t let go of you now,”
Breathing heavily after his confession, Doil could only stare at Injoo, hoping she’d accept, or even acknowledge his feelings for her.
Silence filled the room up, and Doil almost gave up on pursuing her. “Just forge-” He was cut off before he even got the chance to tell her to forget what he said, fearing rejection.
“Then don’t,” Her melodious voice caught him off guard, even more so when she pulled him in for a kiss.
Doil almost immediately gave in. How could he not? It was Oh Injoo kissing him. The person he currently loved, and will continue to love for the rest of his life.
Injoo’s hands made their way around his neck as she shifted onto his lap to kiss him better. Keeping her in place, his hands moved up and down her back, as he kissed back.
Her tongue traced against his lips and he let her take full control. Not being able to help himself, Doil let out a contented sound, feeling Injoo’s smirk against his lips right after.
‘God she drives me crazy,’ He thought while keeping a strong grip on her waist.
As they pulled away, they both gasped for air, foreheads on each other. “Are you sure you won’t ever let me go?” She whispered against his lips, waiting for his answer.
“I will never let go of you. I wouldn’t dare to,”
“ That’s good then ,” She said before pulling him back in for another kiss.
