Work Text:
One thing George loved about Dream was how spontaneous he was. Even before telling George that he was Spider-Man, he would show up on George's fire escape, crumpled flowers and comfort snacks held tightly in his hand.
Since sharing his identity as Spider-Man, Dream had about doubled the amount of sweet gestures to George. Stopping randomly during his patrols to drop a rose on their windowsill, sneak some chocolates into his pocket, and sneak kisses in quiet alleyways.
Sometimes George would get slightly cryptic messages of coordinates within the city that would lead to Dream with some sort of dinner set up, most of the time pizza that he was able to grab during a break in his patrol.
George liked to be outside whenever Dream was on patrol, when time allowed. Working freelance coding definitely had its benefits. Despite the dangers of New York City, he knew that he would be safe walking alone, especially in the shadier areas of the city where people seemed to get mugged every time they went out.
To be fair, the shady areas of New York were the cheapest, and he and Dream had the misfortune of owning an apartment in one of the shadiest areas of the city, so it wasn't hard to end up face-to-face with a knife.
Which was precisely how George found himself on the way to the convenience store on the corner of his street, literally less than two hundred metres from the apartment, with one thought going through his head: God, can I just get my Pringles and call it a day?
The man with the knife seemed to want to drag the mugging out as long as possible, spitting in George's face and getting angrier when the brunette showed no fear of his empty threats. Even when the knife was brought up to his face, George remained nonchalant about the "danger" in front of him.
A sly grin made its way to his face as the telling sound of webs whizzed past his ear, and a yellow blur flew across his peripheral, pulling the mugger to the ground.
"Are you seriously using a steak knife to mug a man? Surely you would go with something a bit more flashy?" Spider-Man quipped as he pulled the knife away from the mugger, examining it carefully in his hands.
"Excuse me," George sighed, "I'm kind of in the middle of being mugged here idiot."
"Right, okay. Dude, you need to stop mugging people. Surely a job at Subway or something would pay better, and it wont end in a criminal record." He webbed the man's arm to the wall behind him, "although I think that it might be to late for that, sorry."
"You're an idiot," George huffed, taking a moment to glare at the mugger before walking into the nearby alley, smiling as the green hero followed behind him.
"Are you okay? Did he hurt you at all?" Dream pulled his mask off, grabbing George's face to carefully look for injuries.
"I'm fine, Dream. He literally only just pulled the knife on me when you got there." He pulled the blonde down to his level to place a chaste kiss on his lips.
"Do you wanna go on a date tonight?" Dream blurted, "I was planning on going home soon but if you're out, maybe we can get pizza and eat it in the park?"
"I'd love to," the brunette smiled. "Meet you there in half an hour?"
"Of course, see you then babe." Dream gave him another kiss before pulling his mask back on and swinging out of the alley.
Unconventional date nights were George's favourites.
A standard walk to Central Park was around fifteen minutes, twenty if he raced back home and grabbed a jumper for Dream to wear that he would eventually steal.
Central Park was always beautiful at night, especially during the spring. It brought back memories of his first few years in the city, spending time watching Dream and Sapnap play basketball while he read their science revision out loud so they would at least learn something. All blissfully unaware of the future they would be brought into.
The centre of the park was not deep enough to mute the sounds of the city, but it was definitely quieter than the bustling streets. The grass was slightly damp, and George was glad he had brought his old, tattered picnic blanket so he could lie down as he waited for Dream.
"Babe, are you awake?" Dream's voice shocked George into sitting up. "Oh, I guess you are. I brought food, and garlic bread."
"You're the best boyfriend in the world," George said, wrapping his arms around Dream's neck as he sat down. "Pepperoni?"
"Of course. Only the best for you."
"So," George spoke, grabbing a slice of pizza, "how has your afternoon been?"
"It's been quiet, which is always nice. Kinda unnerving though when it gets too quiet," Dream replied.
"Any injuries I should be aware of?"
"I'm all good, stayed pretty safe today."
The sounds of the city became less and less noticeable as they ate, crickets starting to chirp as they basked in the silence. Enjoying the last of the late spring warmth as the night cooled down.
"Do you want to walk home, or do you want me to swing us there?" Dream asked once they had finished eating.
"Swing. I like being in your arms."
Dream smiled as he pulled George into a hug, resting his head on the brunette's shoulder. "You're such a sap. Should we get going?"
"Yeah," George hummed, quickly cleaning up their area before falling into Dream's arms, allowing the blonde to move him into a stable and comfortable position.
"Okay, are you ready?" Dream asked, pulling his mask over his face. George just nodded into his chest, tightening his grip around his neck.
The view of the city from above always amazed George; he could understand why Dream loved his life as Spider-Man. Having the chance to view the city hundreds of metres in the air is something he would love to experience more often, despite the fact that Dream would drop everything to swing him around the city if he asked.
"You okay baby? You're all quiet," Dream spoke up, slightly yelling over the sound of the rushing wind.
"Yeah," George replied, resting his head on Dream's shoulder. "Just thinking how lucky I am to have such an amazing boyfriend."
The wind in his hair disappeared as Dream landed softly on their fire escape, carefully placing George down as he opened the window. "You're in such a lovey mood today."
"Hmm, I'm always in a lovey mood, but more so when you save me from muggers with steak knives and then ask me on spontaneous dates."
"Well, I love asking you on spontaneous dates, so expect more of them," Dream smiled as George took his mask off.
"Shower then bed?" George proposed.
"Shower then bed," Dream nodded, pulling George into a kiss.
"I'm gonna surprise you with a spontaneous date one day," the brunette whispered onto his lips. "And it will be the best date you'll ever be on."
"That's if you can beat me to asking." Dream replied, lifting George into his arms with a yelp, laughing into his soft locks.
Unconventional dates were fun, but being in Dream's presence was George's favourite activity.
