eddie definitely would need alot of reassurance that steve is serious and that he isnt fucking with him about being into him.
eddie has harmlessly jokingly or drunkenly flirted with straight guys forever, this is nothing new to him. but steve, steve keeps going further than the others. steve touches him arm, is always in his space, and is the one to reach out for them to hang out, calling his place or showing up at his gigs without eddie even talking about them to him.
once they actually kiss, eddie enjoys it before immediately stepping back and asking steve a million times “are you sure?” and “you can change your mind” and “am i dreaming?” he just can’t believe he’s kissing steve. steve harrington who would poke fun of kids like him at school, steve harrington who dated nancy wheeler. steve harrington who he’s been flirting with for months, who he’s kissing.
and steve would do whatever eddie needed to try and make him understand that he wants this, needs eddie. he comes over and hangs with wayne, bonding with him over sports that makes eddie roll his eyes. he shows up at hellfire to support him and the kids, just being in the background or driving them. he’s the loudest in the crowd during graduation, cheering over all the boos. he shows up in a way that no one ever did for him before and makes sure eddie never feels unloved.
