Kagomes sudden return to the Feudal Era had been one of happiness and celebration. They all talked and laughed together for hours, over joyed by the reunion. She met the young, energetic twins Gyokuto and Kin'u who asked Kagome a million questions while their parents attempted to reign them in. Of course she was more than happy to answer them. Every so often Kagome would steal a quick glance towards Inuyasha who always seemed to be watching, as if she would disappear at any second if he took his eyes off of her. She tried not to blush over it but it was doubtful she exceeded. The smallest look made her heart skip. When it was time to leave, Kagome briefly wondered where she woud sleep tonight since she didn't have her sleeping bag. That was when Inuyasha pulled her to the side.
"I want to show you something..." He said with a light blush sprinkled across his face. He knelt down with his back to her and she wordlessly climbed on. He took her into his woods and kept going until they arrived in a small meadow where a cabin sat on a hill next to a stream. It was an almost picturesque sight.
"What is this place?" She asked in curious wonder. He let her down on the grass and scratched his head nervously while walking a few steps ahead.
"It's, uhhh, mine. My house I mean... The men of the village built it for me, as 'thanks' they said. I don't use it much except when it's cold or raining."
"Really? But why not?" She asked and his face turned a little more red.
"I'm not used to it and, well, it's lonely." He said quietly. Kagome closed the gap between them to hug his arm and lean her head against him.
"I'm here now. You won't be lonely anymore." She whispered. They stared deeply into each others eyes.
"Kagome..." He whispered her name in a voice that sent a pleasant shiver down her spine and leaned down until their lips met. "I want you here with me, forever. Do you want to sleep here tonight?" Her eyes widened and both faces flushed deep red at the realization of what he said. "W-wait! I don't mean like that! I just-!" He paused to calm himself. "I just want to spend time some time with you for awhile longer, that's all."
"Yeah me too. I'm not ready to part just yet." With averted eyes Inuyasha held out his hand for her to take, which she gladly did and he led her inside. It was one large room with a place for a fire on one end and a chest against the wall. It was sparse but Inuyasha wasn't the type to care about material goods so it made sense.
"It's not much, I know but-" She turned around to face him with a bright smile.
"It's very cozy! I love it!" Kagome exclaimed happily and he had a light smile in return.
"It's getting late. I'll get the futon for you." Inuyasha went to the chest and pulled one out then unrolled it on the floor. Kagome fidgeted anxiously with her skirt.
"This isn't considered inappropriate is it? I mean won't Kaede be mad?" He scoffed at her questions.
"Why? We're not doing anything. Besides that old woman isn't the boss of everything. What she doesn't know can't hurt her." She couldn't argue with that logic. He sat down cross legged and patted the bedding in front of him, signaling for her to lay down. She got under the covers and looked at him with a bit of pink rising in her cheek.
"Inuyasha?" She began cautiously and he raised an eyebrow in curiosity. "Can I, uhhh, lay my head on your lap?" He looked at her with surprise for a few seconds and right when she was about to take it back, he smirked.
"Yeah, of course." He stated with a look that gave her butterflies. Slowly she laid her head down on him. "So what were up to while we were separated?"
"Nothing much really. I hung out with friends a lot, studied, oh and I joined the archery club at school so I didn't get rusty."
"I don't know what a club is but that's good I guess. Were these friends the ones I met or were they, ummm, a different kind of friends?"
"I didn't have any boy friends if that's what you're asking." She answered bluntly. "Though I have to admit, Hojo did confess to me." She feel his body tense under her. "But I very nicely turned him down. He started dating one of the girls from my friend group sometime after and they've been really happy together." He relaxed then. "What about you? How were things while I was away?"
"Boring. Miroku and Sango got married and started popping out babies just like you'd expect. We check the outskirts of the village together in case demons try to attack. Luckily after the jewel disappeared it's not been as common as it used to be."
"Did you have 'new friends'?" She asked and heard him balk.
"What?! Of course not! You're the only-!" He stopped himself midsentence.
"The only what?" She asked tentatively.
"You're the only one I love." He muttered with embarrassment. He was suddenly alert at the sound of Kagome sniffling. "What is it? Did I say something weird?" She sat up and wiped her eyes.
"Hearing that... It just made me so happy!" Inuyasha seemed really confused now.
"You're crying cause you're happy? Humans are so weird." He said but then brushed away a tear that trickled down. "Is it okay for me to say I'm relieved you didn't meet some other guy?"
"I feel the same way. I was a little worried you might have moved on."
"Never." He whispered softly, his thumb making back and forth motions against her skin.
"Good." Inuyasha began to gently glide his hand through her dark hair. Kagome closed her eyes. "That feels nice." She sighed contentedly before drifting to sleep.
______________
When Inuyasha woke the next morning he stretched through the fogginess in his brain. He looked down to see not only was Kagome no longer sleeping on the floor but the futon was also gone. "Kagome?" He called out in a voice that went from confused to alarmed. Was yesterday just another dream? But it felt so real! In a panic he hurried through the front door. "Kagome!" He yelled, his heart pounding with fear.
"Is everything okay?" He heard and whipped around to find her coming from around the corner of the other side of the house. He stood motionless as she approached. "Did I scare you? Sorry, I had to-" Before she could finish his arms went around her waist and he pulled her against him.
"For a moment, I thought it was another dream. I was so scared." He whispered in her ear, his voice shaking with emotion and his face buried in her neck. Her hands brushed through his hair soothingly.
"I didn't mean to scare you. I'm real and I'm not going anywhere, I promise. I'm thinking of officially becoming a priestess here though." Inuyasha lifted his head up to look into her eyes. "That wouldn't be too weird would it?"
"N-no, not at all. If that's want you want to do than of course I'll support you." She smiled up at him and it made his chest flutter.
"Well then I'm looking foreward to learning a lot new things!" She said in a chipper voice. He chuckled lightly.
"Dummy." He teased her, causing Kagome to pout as he started to walk away.
"Dummy?!" She yelled and chased after him. "What was that for?!" Inuyasha just shrugged.
"Cause you here being one obviously!" He replied casually. The argument continued as they went, both knowing there was no malice in it, until of course Inuyasha went a little too far so Kagome had to use the words of subjugation. He slammed into ground hard with a yelp. Inuyasha never thought he'd miss being told to 'sit' and he certainly would never let her know that either.
