Chapter 1: You Run Away to Escape from the Pain
Chapter Text
Sonic was feeling a variety of emotions. His tenure as a 30-year-old man had only lasted two days yet it was more eventful that the last decade of his life. His birthday was on a Monday. Usually, Amy would be nagging at him to get out of bed early to start work but since it today was a special occasion, she bit her tongue. Amy was uncharacteristically calm and cheery. Sonic guessed it was because almost all their friends were able to take a couple hours out of their busy lives to see the domesticated couple. Sonic’s party was nostalgic. It was like he was celebrating his 16th birthday all over again. His friends weren’t kidnapped from halfway through. Everyone together in room, happy, laughing and forgetting their mundane lives for a while.
Sonic was especially glad to see Tails again since he seemed to work 24/7. Even when Cream was attentive enough to order lunch for the fox, which Sonic delivered, every time he saw him, it looked like the life had been drained out of him. Sonic related to that more than he should have. Tails initially seemed to land his dream job working at a computer company in Grand Metropolis to help to develop clean energy. Although a minor at the time, the company offered him an internship working in administration team with the promise of a fast track to move into engineering once he was old enough. 5 years later, Tails was still hanging on to those words and working as a drone. It didn’t help that his boss insisted on calling him ‘Miles’. At least Cream and Cheese were there to help make the work bearable.
Sonic sighed. He felt bad for Tails, more so himself. All of his friends seemed go down a strange path. Knuckles became a recluse, never wanting to leave the comfort of his island. The Chaotix disbanded, stopping their perpetual poverty of self-employment with Vector joining the local police force while Espio went back to his roots and continued his ninja training. Only Charmy wanted to keep the team alive to no avail. Rouge, still worked for G.U.N. but to shock of everyone, she expressed her desire to stop stealing. Her only motivation being ‘I have all the treasure I need’. And Shadow. Sonic hadn’t seen him in years, not even Rouge knew where he was after he quit G.U.N.. Knowing Shadow, he would probably be on his motorcycle, traveling in solitude, seeing the world Maria dreamed of so much. Eggman ironically was the glue that connected that connected all his friends together. Ever since Eggman fell ill to his own ageing years ago, everyone went their separate ways. Of course, Sonic was glad to have the mad doctor stop his reign of terror of his world, yet a part of his missed him. The hedgehog always found it amusing that he and his sworn enemy shared the same birthday. Their years of fighting, granted them a bond that not even Tails or Amy had with him. So, when Eggman attacked the city in the middle of his delivery run, it felt like old times. For the two of them, their age had caused the demise of their freedom, and sanity in Eggman’s case. Sonic felt like a hero for the first time in years. A hero who was more liable to pull a muscle, but he didn’t care, especially not over the sounds of girls cheering and cooing over him. It reminded him of how Amy used to...
‘OH GOD AMY!’. The thought of this wife brought him back into reality. It was Tuesday. His birthday was now a lifetime away. It was back to normalcy. Back to work. Back to domestic bliss.
“Sonic! Are you even listening to me?!” She stopped cutting the vegetables she was preparing for dinner. Amy, dressed in her pink dress and homely apron, stabbed the knife in to the cutting board, a sight scarier than any Eggman robot Sonic had encountered. Sonic was sat on the couch in the room adjacent to the kitchen. Bottles of alcohol and pizza boxes were littered on the floor. Sonic never liked the taste of beer, but the affect it had on him was welcomed. Amy naturally hated the mess, but tolerated it since the free food was a perk of his job and saved them money.
“Amy, I said I was sorry, can’t we drop this.”
“Oh yeah, I’m sooo sorry for slacking off at work to fight a defenceless old man and flirt with women half my age.”
“Eggman still has his mechs-”
“So, you don’t deny the flirting?”
“I AM denying it.” He took a sip of Chao in Space VI themed beer. “I could flirt with anyone I wanted to,” he admitted absentminded, not aware of Amy’s anger boiling over. “But I didn’t.” He kept drinking, ignoring her.
“Because girls these days like fawning over washed up hero who can’t even afford to feed his family without kicking him in backside!”
Sonic smiled. The alcohol numbed usual effects of Amy’s words. Every other day, his wife would start ranting about something or other. When they were younger, Amy lectured that this behaviour would give a person frown lines and age you. While she clearly didn’t listen to her own advice, Amy looked great considering she was entering her thirties soon, although her choice of housewife chic aged her which Sonic found unflattering. Amy was now in his face. She muted the TV, stopping him from watching the movie Hollywood made about him as few years back.
Amy was furious, more than usual, yet Sonic didn’t care. Sonic wasn’t sure if was the fight with Eggman yesterday or the alcohol that emboldened him, but his brain didn’t filter what he said next.
“You look so hot when you’re angry,” he said with his trademark smirk, the one only years ago would make his wife melt at the sight of it. Now it only enraged her.
“WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH YOU!” Her hand was itching to summon her hammer. “I don’t know if Eggman hit you on the head or something, but whatever sense he knocked out of you needs to stop.”
Her Piko Piko Hammer materialised. Since Eggman stopped attacking, she only used in emergencies, or when Sonic needed some extra motivation to work. Sonic, now out of his drunken stupor, flinched. Amy remembered that she had promised to control her temper. Sonic’s fearful expression humbled her. Before she knew it, she had tears coming out of her eyes and dropped her hammer.
“I’m a terrible wife.”
“No, you’re not.” Sonic tried to consoled her. “Yes, I am. Why did you marry me, Sonic the Hedgehog?” Amy took a seat next to Sonic on the couch, internally trying not to scold Sonic for not cleaning his crumbs again.
“I thought yesterday would be a turning point. That when you turned 30, you’d wake up and say Amy, y’know what?, I’m gonna’ grow up. I’m gonna’ get a better job and then I want start have five kids with you. But then during the party, you so looked so happy, talking about the old days. And now today, the bills are still overdue, Eggman attacks and you’re going off galivanting like you’re 15 again.”
“I was trying to help.”
“The police can deal with Egghead without us, he’s not a threat anymore.”
Amy wiped her tears and used her apron to clean the cheese off his mouth. “I’ll clean up and I’ll cook dinner tomorrow. You can finish watching your movie, just don’t say up too late.”
“Wait!” It was only a little graze, but Sonic didn’t want it to end. He took his hand over hers and kept it on his cheek. “Amy... What happened to us?”
“What do you mean?”
“Y’know Amy.”
“When was the last time we held each other like this,” he asked.
Amy stuttered, but couldn’t come up with an answer. “When we got married you would kiss me every hour, hug me at every opportunity, cook chili dogs every Sunday and I’d get you a rose after every run and you would plant them back in the garden.”
Amy couldn’t respond. She cried again, although this time silently. Sonic wiped her tears. “Even though I hate seeing you upset...” He turned to whisper in her ear. “I do love it when you’re angry.”
Amy blushed and experienced a rush of energy that she hadn’t felt in years. She tried not to release a giggle but she couldn’t hide it. “Sonic,” she said in faux anger.
“As much I’d love you to be the perfect husband. A part of me does miss the adventurous side of you.” Amy shrieked as Sonic hopped flawlessly on to the coffee table and held out his hand to her.
“Then let’s go!”
“Go? Go where?”
“Anywhere!”
“But we can’t just go!” she replied, incredulous he would make such as sudden decision.
“Why not?”
“Well for one, the house isn’t-”, Sonic finally made use of his supersonic speed and cleaned the house of all its trash. ‘And she says I’m a terrible househusband.’ Sonic joked.
“Well, okay, but,” she paused, the house was cleaner than when they first moved in.
“What about the bills? We don’t have the money to go on vacation.”
Sonic was barely listening. He ran through the house, collecting their belongings (mostly Amy’s clothes) and stuffed them into a suitcase. The hedgehog was used to packing light, at most a backpack, but he knew Amy like to be prepared for anything.
“Then sell the house.” He yelled from upstairs.
“Sonic! Are you insane?!”
“Why not, then you don’t have to clean it or pay to keep the lights on anymore.” Amy was feeling a mixture of confusion and fright. Outside of being a delivery boy, she hadn’t seen Sonic be this active in years, the beer belly he’d developed was proof of that. She hadn’t seen that spark in his eye either for so long.
Sonic retuned downstairs with a red backpack hanging off one shoulder, his smartphone in one hand, and Amy’s hot pink suitcase in the other.
“Sonic! -” Her husband dismissively shushed her while he made a phone call. “Yo, Tails....” She couldn’t hear the fox on the other end but she could sense annoyance at the late-night call. Sonic put him on speaker.
“Yeah, yeah, I know you’re working the late shift, but I need a massive favour. I need Cream to housesit while Amy and I are gone, and you need to deliver Amy’s suitcase to our hotel in Spagonia via air mail by Thursday at the latest.”
“ARE YOU INSANE?!” Tails yelled though the phone, hurting Sonic’s ears. Amy was just glad that she wasn’t hallucinating Sonic’s sudden midlife crisis.
The best friends argued back and forth until Sonic broke a deal, “Bro, if you do this for me, you’ll never have to work a desk again. I owe you remember.” To Amy’s surprise, that seemingly shallow promise made the fox agree.
“Ok, but give me until Friday, I haven’t had time to repair the Tornado II in ages. I never need to use it anymore”
“Then take the One.”
“Sonic, you know we sold that to help you pay the bil-”
“Alright, see you this weekend.” Sonic hung up nervously and looked at Amy, she started to cry again. ‘Crap, she heard.’
“Tails sold your plane for us.”
“He didn’t. I asked him to.” He admitted embarrassingly. “I knew money was tight and I didn’t like you being so stressed out at the time, so I thought I would just put some stuff up for auction. Lots of merchandise of me exists and like an idiot I never accepted a cut of the profits.”
Sonic sighed. “But then I got sentimental and wasn’t willing to let a lot go, so I went to Tails and asked what the most valuable thing I had was. At first, we joked about stealing the Master Emerald, then Tails seriously offered up the Tornado. I said no, but he wouldn’t have it.”
“Oh Sonic! I’m so sorry. I’ve been calling you a deadbeat and you’ve been willing to sell your prized possessions.” She hugged him so tightly Sonic couldn’t breathe. “You’re so kind even when I’m mad at you. Even when I start throwing my hammer you still come back to me. I love you.”
Amy looked up at him with those star-studded jade eyes and slowly leaned in to kiss him on the cheek which he accepted. He smiled. The spark was back.
At the corner of eye, he looked at his phone notifications and smirked so loud Amy was about questioned it.
“You’re going to love me even more when I tell you how much the Tornado sold at auction.”
“Oh, how much?”
“Five Hundred Thousand rings.”

Chapter Text
It was Wednesday.
Sonic had been running through the night with Amy in his arms and all their essential belongings on his back. No matter how well Amy knew her husband, she could never have predicted this kind of madness from him. No matter how old she was, Amy was still powerless to Sonic the Hedgehog’s charms. At any other ludicrous request, she would stand her ground and go down screaming until Big the Cat came home. Sonic managed to convince her to drop everything; work, home and her responsibilities, all in the same clothes she wore the day before. All in the name of a second honeymoon. Granted, Sonic had sacrificed his old plane to fund this trip and the freedom to never worry about the cost of a phone bill, but Amy still felt scorned. Was their life not good enough for him? Had he tired of her? Their marriage?
Or was she the selfish one? Amy Rose’s head shifted from her husband’s chest to sneak a sneak glance at him. He had a determination in eyes when he ran, unlike in his job searches. Regardless of his unhealthy lifestyle of eating chili dogs combined with drinking in recent years, Amy stayed besotted with her childhood crush. His quills had grown longer and unkempt, his muzzle darkened slightly with a permeant scar on his cheek, and his chest fur had finally grown in, although not as developed as Shadow or Silver’s in their teenaged years. Amy certainly wouldn’t complain as she snuggled into his chest contently. Sonic had grown up handsomely, which was why Amy’s jealousy towards other women outside their inner circle only heightened.
Amy only wished his age came with maturity, but these last few hours told her that was wishful thinking, foolish in fact. Sonic would never change. Amy knew that. She never wanted to changed him, but subconsciously she still tried.
‘Maybe that’s why our relationship’s changed. Sonic’s been too kind to say no to me since we got married.’
Sonic finally admitted he missed Amy’s own sense of adventure, lamented how her sassy independence was replaced with stoic pragmatism, or in his own words ‘just no fun anymore’. Whilst Amy loved having her way, she also missed him challenging her. Like when any honeymoon faze ends, reality sinks in. They weren’t Freedom Fighters anymore. The world was going to give them a free ride because they stopped Eggman time after time. The couple had to live for themselves. Amy could sense Sonic felt lost after Eggman went senile. Saving the world was his job, not delivering pizzas. No one could be paid to roam the world for free and he needed to accept that. Amy acknowledged she could be too hard on him. Not because a loss of love for him, but to help him to move on. She thought she was enough, but that was wishful thinking too.
The moon was high in the sky with the stars sparking above the couple. Amy was still unsure where they were going. Aside from revealing that their end destination would be Spagonia, Sonic kept their pit stops a secret. Amy knew her husband would be getting a kick out of leaving her out of the loop considering she was used to being the woman of the house. Until they arrived at... wherever they were going, the pink hedgehog decided to get some rest and enjoy the ride.
The rush of the wind combing her quills, her view of world reduced to flashing lights, the warmth of Sonic’s chest... It had been years since they had gone on a run like this. It took her back to memories as a little girl, scared to open her eyes as Eggman’s base on Little Planet exploded around them.
Amy closed her eyes and dreamed about the two of them back at home, safe and sound.
‘Hey, Ames I’m home,’ Sonic quickly threw his smart shoes off and ran straight to the kitchen to hug his wife from behind, stealing kisses whilst hot soup sizzled in a pot.
‘Sonic~, not until after dinner,’ she used her wooden spoon to enforce a distance between them.
‘Forget dinner, we can eat out later.’ He offered mischievously, and then suddenly he picked her up bridal style, leaving his wife in blissful shock as he carried her upstairs, leaving the house to burn down for all she cared.
Amy smiled and unknowingly giggled whilst in dreamland, alerting Sonic to her more relaxed demeanour who was unaware of the not-so-innocent dream she was indulging in.
Sonic stopped slowly, trying his best to not wake his wife from slumber since she looked so peaceful. He laid her down at the base of a tree, and dropped his backpack beside her to get to their provisions. Unbeknownst to Amy though, there was more than toothbrushes and light snacks in this bag.
It was time to put his plan into action.
Hours later in the early hours of the morning, Amy awoke and thought her dream turned to a nightmare. She was in the middle of nowhere with no sign of life for miles.
“Sonic! Where are you?” She started to panic. She knew this impromptu trip would lead to them getting lost. Not that she knew where Sonic was planning to go.
“Oh God, I knew it! I knew this was a bad idea, I can’t believe I let that idiot talk me into-”
“Don’t you mean a handsome idiot?”
“AHHH!”
Sonic sped up behind her and lifted the pink hedgehog in the air by the waist. After the shock subsided, she demanded she be placed back on the hard ground.
“Tsk. Tsk. Your past self would think you’re taking me for granted,” he teased as acquiesced to her plea. He offered her his hand and told her, “Let’s take a trip down memory lane.”
Amy knew if he took his hand again there would be no turning back. She considered screaming at him. To get it through his thick head that the past was in the past. However, that smile... she couldn’t say no to that.
She composed herself and took his hand, caressing it for a moment before he led them on a short walk. They were silent for a while until Amy broke it.
“So... are you gonna’ tell me why you insisted on dragging me to the middle of nowhere?”
“Just wanted a change of scene,” He answered coolly.
When they first met, Sonic short answers would grant him an air of mystery that Amy found intriguing and attractive. Now, she knew he was doing it to tease her on purpose.
Amy stopped in her tracks. Sonic turned around to find his wife with her hands to her hips, tapping her foot impatiently. Sonic would’ve laughed aloud and noted Amy was taking a page of his book, but Sonic sober now and didn’t have the Liquid Courage to test his wife’s patience anymore.
“You don’t know where we are, do you?” He asked with a smirk.
“Of course not, you brought me to the sticks. I don’t know why you’re so happy to-” Amy paused, what seemed like an eclipse blinded her for a moment.
Sonic’s smirk widened. His plan was finally in motion.
The ground shook unexpectedly as the Earth’s gravity began to be shared by another floating object. Amy almost fell over until Sonic caught her in his arms, and sat her down beside him.
The Little Planet was back in the Earth’s atmosphere above Never Lake.
“It’s so beautiful...” The sight of orb made Amy cry.
“I knew you’d love it,” he brought his hand up to wipe her tears and then wrap it around her back.
“Happy early Anniversary,” he whispered in her ear. Amy only replied by hugging him tightly to the ground, and then laid on his chest to watch the sun and Little Planet rise and fall respectively.
The hedgehogs stayed in mutual silence until Little Planet stopped its descent.
Amy could no longer contain her happiness, “You remembered. You really remembered,” she cried happily.
“Of course, I did,” he said proudly.
“Yeah right, our last anniversary you remembered was the first one,” she quipped but there was no anger in her voice. This moment more than made up for all the anniversaries missed.
“Well, I was going to take you down to the lake a couple times, but every time you made it more difficult to surprise you.”
“But I don’t understand, if this is Never Lake then... where’s the lake.” The lush lake and wildlife around the lake she remembered from her childhood was gone, replaced with an arid landscape.
“Beats me. Tails said it might hafta’ do with global warming. It’s been getting hotter every season so the lake must’ve dried up.”
“That’s awful.” The most treasured place of her childhood. Where she met her soulmate, was reduced to a shadow of its former self.
“So, I thought we could fix it.”
“What?!” While Amy was a green thumb, she didn’t think their trip would involve hard labour.
“Well, we can’t make it rain here again.” He pulled out a small trough from his bag. “We can make it a little nicer.”
They spent the morning planting a few seeds and watering them. Amy had missed gardening as a hobby. With all the other bills to take care of, the garden Amy was proud of became too expensive to maintain.
“There. With some better conditions and sunshine, these flowers should help make the place look better at least.” Amy sighed as she sat down by her husband who offered her a sandwich. “Still, it’s such a shame the Lake is gone.”
“Maybe... but not for much longer,” Sonic laughed.
“What do ya’ mean?” Sonic only took out his phone and made her read out a news article.
“‘ Former President advocates for better restoration and conservation efforts for Mobian regions: Sonic the Hedgehog's home, Christmas Island, South Island, Westside Island and Never Lake are all considered for landmark environmental project...’ , Oh my goodness. That’s amazing! Do you have something to do with this?”
“What can I say? The guy’s still a big fan, so he didn’t need a lot of convincing.” He said nonchalantly. “Besides, now that we’re millionaires we can spend money on things that are actually important.”
Amy beamed, so proud of her husband's ever powerful charisma. Even without smashing badniks, Sonic was still a hero, just fighting different battles.
Sonic shot up and stretched. "Well, its nice to be sentimental, but we gotta' go. Come on. We still have the whole world to see, before we check into Spagonia."
"But Spagonia's miles away, more than you can run, especially on water, how are we going to the get there at this rate?" Her question was answered by a large freighter plane whizzing by over their heads. Sonic waved at the waved at the pilot in the cockpit before he landed before the blue and pink hedgehogs. The pilot removed his aviator googles and jumped out of the plane to greet the pair. Amy gasped.
"Dexter!"
"Yo Dex, long time no see!" He ran up to the tan hedgehog a fist bump and half hug.
"I'm good, Tails called and said you guys needed a ride. You're lucky I'm on a long haul to Spagonia too. You guys don't mind if I make a few stops though?"
"Course not? You got Amy's stuff in the back?"
"Yep." Dexter winked back at the family man. "As well as all the stuff you ordered."
"Perfect! Come on, Ames! If we leave now, we can see the sunset in Adabat." Amy ran into the transport, holding her husband's warm hands from take off to when they landed. Amy wasn't sure what was going to happen after their anniversary trip ended. All she knew is that the life she knew before Monday was over, and she never wanted that life back.
Notes:
This chapter wasn't intended to be in the story, but I wanted a chapter in Amy's perspective about their relationship, so I extend this part. Also Dexter cameo. Read 'Sonic the Matchmaker' if you're confused.
Don't worry, next chapter will bring the good stuff. If you like like spicy sonamy, make sure to tune in next time. The next chapter's about their first honeymoon ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), Nothing raunchy mind you.
Chapter 3: Heavy Thoughts Keep on Scrapping your Brain
Summary:
Their first stopover in Adabat reveals old wounds that time cannot heal.
Chapter Text
It was Thursday morning, or rather Wednesday night due to the time difference. The hedgehogs had travelled on a non-stop flight to Adabat. Sonic was used to travelling without jet-lag due to his speed, but Amy hadn’t been on a proper long-haul trip in years since their adventuring days ended. It didn’t help that she had been oversleeping since they had left, making her dreams more vivid than usual. Sonic, stroked her hair as she appeared still and content.
“Ames,” he whispered. “Wake up, we’re here.”
Amy’s eyes slowly blinked opened as the light shown over her face. This was the second sunset she has witnessed in a day.
“Already?” She whined, and stretched, accidently getting a whiff of her underarms. “Ugh, I need a shower.”
“What do ya’ mean? You smell like your name.”
“Well not to worry.” Dexter opened to the door from the cockpit to the cargo bay. “We’ve landed right by the ocean,” he joked. “And the hot springs here are to die for.”
“Shame we won’t have the time.” Amy lamented and turned to her husband, “Are you sure we can’t stay?” She asked with a childish pout. Sonic laughed at his wife’s old habits coming back with a vengeance. He missed her looking this cute.
“Come on Ames, one more stop after this and you’ll be sleeping at one of the best hotels in the world. When we get to Empire City I’ll treat you to a shopping spree, I promise.”
“But Sonic we can’t afford-” A raised eyebrow from Sonic brought for back to their new reality. “Sorry force of habit.”
“It's cool, besides, I already bought you some new clothes already.”
“How? We just got here!” Sonic rubbed underneath his nose cockily. “Don’t underestimate how I quick I can be. I ordered ‘em before we left.” He stood up and gave Amy an inconspicuous satchel which was hidden under her seat. She carefully pulled back the zipper and gasped in surprise. Inside were some new clothes perfectly suited to their tropical stopover.
“Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you.” Amy squeezed Sonic so tightly and so quickly, Sonic lost his balance and the couple fell, cushioned by the cargo.
Dexter, watching the couple as he prepared for his work ahead of him, blushed, the couple clearly not realising what how compromising their position looked to any outsider. At least the two were happy. Dexter coughed to excuse himself.
“I’ll leave you lovebirds to explore the beach. I’ll be done in loading and unloading in about an hour or two, so don’t be having too much fun.”
“Well, give me a second to get changed, first.” Amy demanded whilst shooing the boys outside to give herself some privacy. “He better ordered the right size,” she mumbled.
The door closed behind the male hedgehogs. Dexter, now alone with the blue hero, finally was able to gush about Tails’ sudden request.
“Man, I can’t believe it. I’ve transported cargo all over the planet, but I never though Sonic the Hedgehog would one of ‘em,” He laughed. “And what a lucky dog ya’ are. I didn’t even know you and Amy got married.”
Sonic laughed back awkwardly. “Yeah, it kinda’ just happened. We kept everything hush hush, because of Eggman at the time.”
“Ah, I see.” He winked at Sonic knowingly.
“Well, hey, what about you?” Sonic tried to change the subject. “First time we met; you were throwing googly eyes at my wife.” It was Dexter’s turn to be bashful.
“Well... that was a long time ago, and you guys weren't married then, but now I-"
The door to the plane suddenly slammed open. “So, boys, how do I look?” Sonic and Dexter’s catch-up was interrupted by Amy’s transformation. Sonic had bought her a variety of beachwear, most of which was more suitable for a younger woman, but Amy made due with what she was given. The hedgehog chose a pink two-piece swimsuit adorned with a palm tree design, and chose to cover up her midriff area and legs with a long light blue wrap, then completed the look with matching pink sandals and sunglasses that rested on her head. Sonic was impressed. Amy knew how to freshen up well.
The two men were left astounded as the tired housewife changed into an attractive tourist. Amy started getting nerved by their stares and perpetual silence. Sonic, as her husband, was allowed to admire her beauty of course, but as she got older, she became more self-conscious of her body as his ‘secret’ quick glances became less frequent over the years. What Amy didn’t know however, was that Sonic had never lost in her physically, but her change in wardrobe to ‘housewife chic’ made it harder to appreciate her in that way.
‘Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about!’ Sonic tried to be respectful and kept his true feelings hidden, but unfortunately, he was incapable of hiding the seductive smile that developed on his face as he glazed at his wife up and down methodically as she walked over to the pair.
Dexter on the other hand, could only cough again profusely to stop his own thoughts, “Well, you two crazy kids have fun.” He dipped his hands in his pockets and gave Sonic a couple of rings.
“Oh, before I forget, could ya’ please stop by the market and get some souvenirs for Destiny for me.”
“Ah, how sweet, do you always get gifts for your wife?” Amy cooed, “Last gift Sonic gave me was a leftover chili dog from Twinkle Park.”
Dexter shook his head, “Oh no, ya’ see Destiny’s mah little girl. My wife’s name’s Serena. Destiny always wants a gift from wherever I go, but I rarely stay long to get a gift for her.”
“Oh, I see.” Amy’s demeanour changed. The light in her eyes went out and mentally retreated. “Well then, we’ll make sure to get Destiny something’s special like a postcard or something.” She waved goodbye to the pilot quickly and dragged Sonic off by the arm without a second thought.
“And get some stamps too for Eli too! He loves to collect ‘em” Dexter shouted as the couple walked off into the horizon.
Sonic resisted being dragged and tried to gently pull his wife into his arms, only to be rebuffed. “Come on, we can at least see the sunset.” She walked off like a zombie towards the nearest pier, with a worried Sonic slacking behind.
“Are you coming or not? We’re not staying here, remember ?” Amy snarked without even facing him.
‘Shit’ Sonic held in the urge to scream aloud. All the progress he made was gone. Not unless they had another heart-to-heart.
The locals were noisy as the nearby fish market with booming with business. The hedgehogs walked along the boardwalk in tortuous silence. Sonic naively assumed he had finally through to his wife, but clearly, he had more work to. No matter how he tried to cheer up, her only responses were light nods or short ‘no’s’. Sonic knew they would have to talk about it soon, the main problem was, Sonic didn’t know how to brooch the subject either. They had conversations, rather arguments about having children, and they all ended the same, with the couple pushing it back under the rug.
They sat down on the beach, their feet grazing the ocean as the tide moved in and out.
“You know, I didn’t know they opened a Chao Garden around here.”
“Hmm.” Sonic took that a sign of her showing interest.
“Yeah, I saw some kids playing with some nearby.”
“That’s nice.”
“You always wanted to have your own. Maybe we could should adopt one now we could afford to keep one. Cream could give us some tips.”
“Hmm.”
Sonic took a deep breath. This couldn’t go on any longer. “Amy-”
“Mr. Sonic, is that you?”
The couple were interrupting again by a young human woman walking towards them. “My brother Kaeo saw you in town. It’s me, Rudi.” The woman wore a light blue jacket over a white shirt with a pink waist cloth and blue sandals.
Sonic smiled and stood up to greet her, and she pulled him into a hug. “Rudi, long time no see.” He met the girl as a teenager during the Dark Gaia fiasco, but now she was all grown up.
Amy initially didn’t react. On the rare occasions, she and Sonic went out, the blue hedgehog was recognised wherever they went. She used to have pangs of jealousy when female fans in particular approached the hero, but that stopped since Sonic came home to her every night. This interaction seemed different however, as the two kept talking like a house on fire.
“What are you doing back, Sonic? If you told us, my dad would have come too.”
“Thank goodness, I wouldn’t last if your dad had anything to say about.”
“Well, you don’t have a worry about him anymore, just my husband,” she said as she caressed her belly. “Ever since I got pregnant again, he never wants me to leave his sight. We’ve got through this twice yet he still makes a fuss.”
“ AHEM! ” Amy made Sonic and Rudi jump, as they were in their own world for a bit.
“Sorry, you guys never met,” Sonic kissed his wife on the cheek as an apology. “This is my wife, Amy. She helped us put the world back together.”
“It’s lovely to finally meet you, Amy. Ahh, to be married to Sonic the Hedgehog. You must have your work cut out for you,” she teased.
‘You have no idea,’ Amy wanted to reply but kept the thought to herself.
“RUDI!” Their reunion put to ended by a young human man on the pier above them. He jumped down and run up to hold his wife dearly. “I told you shouldn’t be walking so far from home.”
“I’m sorry, honey, Kaeo told me Sonic was here.”
“I don’t care if the Chief of Mazuri visits again, you need rest,” Her husband, towering over them all didn’t offer a glance down at the world-famous hero and effortlessly picked up Rudi bridal style, leaving the hedgehogs in awe of his strength. Rudi looked over her husband and waved her old and new friend goodbye as she was given chariot ride home to her village.
Amy sighed and wiped sand off her wrap, admiring the beautiful view before her. “We should head back.” In any other circumstance, this would have been a dream for her. Sonic and her as husband and wife, resting by the beach as they shared sweet kisses as the sun set. Yet, now, it felt like that dream was incomplete. It was like the universe was playing a sick joke on them.
“Amy wait-” Sonic grabbed her hand. “I know why you’re upset. Please talk to me.” Amy forcefully turned away, causing Sonic to place his hands gently on her chin, pushing it up so Amy was finally looking into her husband’s eyes.
“You don’t have to apologize Sonic. This is something I have to get over on my own.”
“Amy, you don’t have to do it alone.”
“YES, I DO!” She didn’t notice she had raised her voice until she saw Sonic flinch. “You never wanted kids. I understand. I can’t force you.”
“And I told you I never wanted to get married either yet here we are.” Sonic tried to rationalize. Sonic move his hands to her shoulders. “I know, we were never on the page on this, but that doesn’t mean I want to see you miserable.”
Amy cried into Sonic’s chest. “It’s just so hard. At first, I was trying to keep to the baby fever to myself, and I knew it would be hard to raise a baby when money got tight...” She started to explain between sobs.
“WHY IS EVERYONE WITH BABIES SO HAPPY?!”
“Come on Ames, you know that’s not true.” Sonic rubbed her back, trying to comfort her.
“Well, it seems like it,” she said, her words muffled by Sonic’s chest. "All these years... All the girls at my boxcerise class all have at least two..."
It was time for Sonic to make another impulsive choice. He shook his head and smiled. Only Amy Rose could do this to him. First marriage and now this.
“Y’know Amy... Maybe... When we go home... After all this is over and all... We could...” Amy looked up at him confused and requested Sonic to simply spit it out.
“Look into adopting....” Sonic saw her eyes lit up, mustering all his strength to finish his sentence. “... a Chao.”
Amy squealed, as she jumped in his arms and squeezed her legs around his legs.
“YES! YES! YES!” She was so happy that she wished she could relive this moment over and over again. Amy could decipher the meaning behind his words. It was only matter of when rather than never anymore, and that was a promise.
She had waited years to finally marry Sonic the Hedgehog. She was willing to wait to have his children too.
Notes:
The music video portrayed them as being childless, so I felt I couldn't not address it. Sonic probably doesn't mind but Amy would feel some resentment after so long, which aside from being married to someone who has a dead end job, is probably why she's so cranky in this timeline. Amy would want a big family and for Sonic, marriage was probably one step too far in terms of his comfort zone already, so I think he would give excuses every time Amy brought it up.
Anyway, happier times ahead next time. More spicy and sappiness next chapter.
Chapter 4: You're Lying There with your Heart Wide Open
Summary:
This week has been about revaluating their expectations about their marriage; Emotionally, mentally and finally, the physical.
Notes:
Here's the Sonamy spice you asked for. Also, I am I writing Amy as older than she is (she's supposed to me 27)? If so I think I that's just me projecting since I do not act my age at all.
Anyways, enjoy!
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
It was Friday.
The couple had finally checked into their hotel in Spagonia, where the couple were getting ready for night’s sleep in the hotel’s penthouse suite. Amy immediately questioned her husband about the cost, but he reassured her that being the world’s fastest hedgehog still meant that he was entitled to a large discount. Amy was astounded. When they entered the spinning doors of the building, the couple were greeted to a hero’s welcome. The hotel staff lined up clapping in neat rows, whilst guests and onlookers cheered. Sonic and Amy were then met by the manger and owners of the hotel who were deeply honoured to have Sonic the Hedgehog stay at their ‘humble’ establishment, and thanked the hedgehogs for their continuous service and protection.
Without Eggman, there was guaranteed peace from supernatural phenomena or intergalactic invasion. After Team Sonic’s sudden retirement from heroism, Amy re-assimilated to a life of normality. Compared to the others, Amy Rose had an ordinary life before she cross paths with the blue blur, a boring one even. Like many children, she dreamed of great adventures alongside a man who would sweep her off her feet. Many younger women who looked up to Amy Rose as children, questioned why she would give up leading the Resistance, the Restoration, her independence for Sonic the Hedgehog. Amy would simply laugh it off. ‘They’re a part of a different generation’ . To Amy, marriage was another adventure, there was no rush that could compare to being with your soulmate, to have and to hold until death do them part. Of course, she would miss bashing badniks with Sonic by her side, but that chapter of their lives had ended. Amy had turned the page from it. Nonetheless, their grand entrance proved that the world was never going to move on from them.
That realisation was compounded by her experience at shopping district in Empire City hours earlier.
Sonic childishly asked her to close her eyes and pull her hand out, then slapped his bank card into her hand and told her to have fun whilst he ran off to the nearest chili dog stand. She huffed at his one-track mind, but held the card tight in her gloved hand as if it were a golden ticket. Empire City made Station Square appear like a small village. The housewife and self-proclaimed city girl was overwhelmed by the crowds of people walking by her as well as the skyscrapers that towered over her. Amy took a deep breath. She knew Sonic wanted her to stop overthinking and enjoy herself for once.
Amy walked into a large department store filled with hundreds of shoppers as well as staff. She entered an elevator manned by an attendant. ‘Fancy. Rouge probably had more than a few ‘shopping’ sprees here’. The attendant took her to the 5 th floor which had all the women’s clothing. Yet again, Amy felt out of her element. As a young girl she loved shopping but other financial commitments made the outing harder to justify. It also did not help that all the female shoppers around her had a much more youthful sense of fashion. Amy glanced down at her long red dress adorned with an apron, shuffling her feet, clad with her (now) vintage boots. ‘No wonder Sonic’s lost interest, I barely look any different’.
Amy searched the rack for new clothes but immediately found ire with the selection which she felt was no longer suitable for a woman in her age bracket. ‘Were girls dressing like this now?’ she wondered, forgetting her own red dress as teenager was considered mature at the time. She promptly moved on to another section marketed towards older women where the outfits on display were more to her liking, also picking out some knitted dresses to prepare for the autumn months. Amy feeling proud of her selections and walked to counter only to be stopped by a member of staff.
“Oh my God! I thought Jo was messing with me. Amy Rose, here! In this store, like get outta’ here.” The employee was a blonde-haired human woman wearing the store’s distinctly garishly pink uniform. Amy was intimidated by her height and womanly figure trying to pop her dress’s buttons.
“Name’s Madonna and I was obsessed with Sonic too, the dreamboat, haaahha. I always tell everyone we used to date, but no one ever believes me.” she laughed, her shrill Empire City accent flooding onlookers' ears. “But you hon, were the real deal, repen’ for us girlies. Not only did you have spunk, but also serious style.” Her tone changed as she looked up and down at the hedgehog’s clothing in shock.
“What happened to it?”
“Marriage,” she replied cynically, ignoring the girl’s lack of a filter.
“Oh wow, who’s the lucky man?”
“Do you know anyone who’s blue and can run at Mach 3?”
Madonna gasped, “No way, you tied him down for real.”
“Yeah, we’re on vacation for our anniversary.”
“Well then, this,’ referring to Amy’s clothing choices, “simply won’t do.” She grabbed Amy’s shopping bag and led her down to the fitting rooms. Amy waited in a cubicle whilst Madonna rallied her co-workers. “Come on, girls, we have some serious work to do.”
Amy was treated to full makeover curtesy of the women of the Empire Department Store. She now had more dresses, skirts, makeup and jewellery most girls could only dream of in lifetime. While their generosity wasn't free, their service was severely discounted. Amy felt on top of the world. The pink hedgehog subscribed to the belief that ‘you are what you wear,’ and she had felt this good in her own skin in ages. Madonna, the senior stylist at the store, insisted she stopped dressing ‘like her grandma’ and dress her age. She was right, Amy realised. She was merely 3 years younger than Sonic and the blue hedgehog only turned 30 a few days ago. More responsibilities did not mean she had to lose her youthful outlook, but Amy always justified neglected herself to focus on maintaining the household. Being ‘cute’, ‘stylish’, ‘sexy’ were descriptors she hadn’t used on herself in years, nor by her husband. However, that changed once she entered their hotel room and was greeted by the sound of a wolf whistle from her husband, who muted the TV to give her some attention. A day ago, she felt nervous, confusing Sonic’s ogling for disapproval, but now she felt all too eager to indulge in his attention and was willing to fix another aspect their relationship.
Sonic laid lazily on their king-sized bed, scrolling through the TV channels, wasting time until his wife came out from the bathroom. Amy was taking longer than usual, but Sonic assumed his wife would want to make the most of their luxurious facilities and clean up from a week of travelling. The shower was running, but Amy sat anxiously on the toilet seat. She had lost her nerve. She was in a staring contest with the lone gift bag littered with cute tissue paper on the inside. Inside was lace nightgown, coloured bright red with rose patterns scattered around the garment.
‘It’s just pyjamas, stop being such a baby and put it on. Maybe Sonic will choose you over dreaming about chili dogs tonight.’
‘They’re NOT PJs, its lingerie. I can’t wear this.’
She fought with herself fiercely till her nerve lost and she remembered Sonic brought some her clothes in his rucksack. Luckily for Amy, her usual comfortable, baby pink maxi nightdress was stuffed at the bottom of the bag.
‘Much better’
Amy re-enters the bedroom and quickly rushed under covers beside her husband. She sent him a smile, but Sonic’s hormones couldn’t hide his internal disappointment. Amy knew Sonic had pre-ordered some clothes for her, but unbeknownst to her, he had in the hand in the risqué choice in nightwear.
Sonic stared straight at the TV, but not consciously watching the channel. “Didn’t like the gift I got for you,” he asked.
Amy blushed while gripping the covers, “I do, but... It’s cold in here that’s all.”
“Doesn’t matter,” he said nonchalantly. Suddenly Amy blinked to find Sonic under the covers on his hands and knees above her.
“I can fix that,” he whispered seductively in her ear. Amy shivered as Sonic began to stroke her legs and graze her thighs, hidden underneath her nightgown. Sonic smiled as his actions had his desired effect on his wife, feeling Amy’s heat radiate from her soft skin.
“I hate this dress... so much...” he admitted between neck kisses. “I can’t wait... to rip this off you... once and for all.”
Amy entered a such a dazed, intoxicated state, she couldn’t her register her husband’s words. It had been so long since the couple had enjoyed intimate times together let alone had sex. It felt like Sonic was making up for lost time. Ever since their first honeymoon, there was always one excuse after another as to why they could not enjoy each other physically, and it didn’t help their daily arguments soured their moods before bed.
Sonic’s rough yet gentle handling of her body felt completely different to how he behaved during her first time, and she began to reminisce their first time together as hedgehog and wife.
Sonic looked ready to pass out after the long day he had. The ceremony was perfect. Short sweet, and to the point with only his closest friends in attendance. The reception, however was another story. Amy insisted on at least having a party at their new home to act as both as housewarming and wedding party. The wedding was low-key and planned on short notice on purpose to avoid word getting back to Eggman. Sonic, half-serious, implored Amy to invited their old ‘frenemy’, but that I idea was quickly shot down. The number of dumbfounded looks and questions Sonic had to deal with got annoying very quickly. Tails and Cream were surprised but happy for their two best friends; Knuckles thought Sonic was going insane or hypnotised; Team Dark and Chaotix were mainly there for the free food, but Shadow uncharacteristically pulled the groom aside and threatened the blue hedgehog to explain his motive for marrying the girl, to which Sonic smirked and replied, ‘Because I wanted to.’
Thankfully, Sonic could relax now in complete luxury. Ever since the Perfect Chaos incident, the Station Square Resort and Hotel offered Sonic a free stay anytime, so Sonic suggested they stay there for the weekend before settling down in their new home properly. Speaking of his new wife, she was taking forever in the bathroom. Finally, the door opened to reveal Amy Rose appearing against a mist of steam, wearing merely a white lace nightgown with matching stockings.
“So whadya’ think,” she asked bashfully,
Sonic gave her a quick glance away from the TV, then quickly did a double take.
“Aren’t you cold?” He asked as redirected his attention back to his show, trying to hide his blush.
‘Hehe, I forgot about this part.’ Whilst Sonic may have matured enough to consider seriously getting married, in regards to his ‘marital duties’, he still had a heart of a boy. It had been barely a month between her proposal and their wedding, and in that time, they had shared some innocent kisses and pecks, and one intense moment of passion that didn’t go far due to an interruption. Judging by Amy’s change in clothes (or lack thereof), Sonic assumed she had put more thought into tonight than he did.
“I’m okay.” Amy’s reply brought Sonic back into reality as she took the remote from his hand and turned off the TV.
“You look pretty,” Sonic cringed as he complimented her like a child. Amy didn’t mind however. She laughed it off. “Thanks.”
They were under the covers in silence until Amy decided to break the ice and make the first move as she was used to doing in their relationship. She straddled him tentatively. As Amy grew older, her love for Sonic expanded to beyond emotions and aesthetics and into the physical. Sometimes she would chastise herself for thinking about Sonic in such a crude way on days where it felt her urges were uncontrollable. It would start of innocent, imagining Sonic expressing his undying love for her that had to be kept hidden, only for fantasy to divulge into moans and whispers.
Tonight was different. Now that they were married, there was no reason to feel any sort of shame in expressing her love in this way. The couple had an opportunity to have sex before marriage, but Sonic stopped midway. Amy surmised her fiancée was trying to be noble and not rush into anything.
Amy kissed him passionately while stroking his quills. Sonic seemed receptive as he put his hands around her back.
“I haven’t done this before.” Amy admitted. Sonic wasn’t surprised, not that his opinion of her would change if the opposite was true.
“Neither have I,” he reassured her. “Just relax...”
Amy took his advice to heart and stopped being afraid. She finally released all the sweet passion. Sonic the Hedgehog wouldn’t last the night.
The couple rested in each other's arms, content and ready for good night’s sleep.
“Why don’t we have sex more often?” Sonic asked rhetorically.
“You know why.” Amy quipped. “No offense Sonic, but coming home smelling like chilli dogs and beer doesn’t get my loins excited.”
“For real!” He said sarcastically. “Well, you don’t have to worry about that anymore.”
“Yeah,” Amy moved to the crick of Sonic’s neck and began to close her eyes to get some rest. Sonic grinned and stroked her quills.
“I miss you screaming my name... when you're not angry with me.”
Amy’s eyes shot open, mortified at the implication. “I do not,” She took her pillow and slapped him with it.
“ SONIC! SONIC! PLEASE DON’T STOP! ” He dangerously mocked his wife’s voice, earning him more strikes from her pillow.
“I’m going to wash your mouth with soap, mister!”
"FASTER! FASTER! Put your back into it!"
Sonic jumped out of the bed and kept up his impersonation with wife chasing behind, landing blows on his behind.
“ Ahhh! Spank me more! ”
His disrespectful mockery ended with Amy pouncing on him, now straddled by his thighs.
“Now it’s your turn to scream my name.”
Sonic could only smirk devilishly. “You are so hot when you’re angry.”
Amy winked. “And don’t you forget it,” she said as the couple enjoyed their last night of their second honeymoon in paradise as the Spagonia moon shone and romantic music filled the night air.
Notes:
One more chapter to go. I rewrote this in my head so many times, one due to the rating and two, I felt that this version worked best.
Naoto Ohshima has said that if Sonic was more mature, he would pick Amy, and so I interpret that Sonic would accept a marriage proposal from Amy eventually, but still have the 'heart of a boy' to not understand the importance behind that commitment and intimacy, leading to the problems that are affecting their marriage years later (besides money of course).
The proposal will be last chapter and wrap everything up in a neat bow.
Chapter 5: You Forget Life’s Not An Endless Challenging Race
Summary:
Sonic and Amy are back from their vacation and have more surprises for their friends waiting for them.

Chapter Text
It was Monday again. The sun rose unceremoniously with its harsh rays waking up the couple who were snuggled together in bed. Since they arrived back from their trip, the hedgehogs resided themselves to their bed. The two spent the weekend either asleep or engaging in a couple’s ‘tryst’.
For Sonic, it was almost as if he went back in time. Their friends had all been invited once again to visit their home and they all pilled in one by one over the course of an hour. Cream and Tails came first. Sonic commented that the two-tailed fox seemed more well-rested, which Tails said was a result of him finally quitting the dead-end internship.
“Enough about that job, Tails.” Cream interjected. “Tell us about the vacation. How did it go?”
“It was wonderful,” Amy answered from the kitchen. She arrived holding tray of tea and sandwiches for her guests. She sat down on the edge of the loveseat beside her husband and gave him a peck on his cheek, which Sonic reciprocated. Tails couldn’t help cringing in disgust. The couple always kept their public displays of affection to a minimum, mainly because of Sonic’s shyness. Furthermore, it was odd see his two friends so... amicable with each other, at least in the romantic sense. During the rare moments Tails came over to visit Sonic, they were either not on speaking terms or at each other’s throats. Tails never understood their marriage. The fox was in shock when Sonic ‘Marriage? No Way!’ the Hedgehog invited him to their wedding. Cream took the news a lot easier that he did. She cheered happily for her best friend. The boy Amy spent years pining after was hers. Although Cream couldn’t put a finger on what Amy could possibly have done to make the carefree hedgehog change his mind after so many years.
“Amy, I’ve never seen you wear that. Is it new?” Cream asked to stop the hedgehogs from sucking face in front of them. Tails mouthed a ‘thank you’ for ending the torture.
“Oh, this old thing?” Amy said coyly as she posed her in one of her many outfits like a model. She wore a light pink dress with frills on her sleeves and complemented with pair of small fuchsia boots.
“Sonic bought it for me,” she winked at him in approval.
Suddenly their chat was interrupted by the oven timer. “Honey, can you help me prepare the food.”
“No probs,” Sonic said as he followed his wife into the kitchen, leaving the fox and the rabbit were left to their own devices. The air was filled with whispers and giggles from the kitchen. Tails could not take it anymore.
“Cream, are you not weirded out by this?” He asked quietly, trying to attract the lovebirds’ attention back into the living room prematurely. “Sonic never helps out in the kitchen.”
“Well, I think it’s lovely. We’ve never seen them so happy. Isn’t it nice.”
“I know but...” Tails tried hard not to feel guilty. He felt a pang of jealousy seeing his brother come back from a vacation. “What could have happened on their vacation that made them go ‘gaga’ for each other?”
Tails’ brainstorming was interrupted by Knuckles slamming the front door open.
“THIS BETTER BE IMPORTANT!”
Amy was doing her best to be a good host by preparing lunch for their guests. She was surprised that her husband readily offered to help. Sonic was never great in the kitchen, but Amy appreciated the help. However, Amy should have known better that Sonic would be more of a distraction as he put his arms around her waist, his hands lingering around her body.
“Sonic, behave .” She tried her best to hold her in her giggles and moans. “Our friends, are here.”
“So what? They’re in our house. If we go upstairs for a minute, they won't notice.”
Amy turned around, and reached up to kiss her husband, content in their own world. The kiss turned more intense as Sonic lift her up on to the counter. Even as the sound of a motorcycle reeving up out sound their house, that was not enough to make the couple stop.
“Yuck.”
The married couple were interrupted by the back door opening to reveal Shadow the Hedgehog, wearing a black leatherjacket while carrying a brown rucksack and dark Chao resembling him in tow.
“Get a room.” He spat.
Amy, overwhelmed with embarrassment and adrenaline, pushed herself off the counter and tried to regain her composure while retying her hair which was loosened by Sonic attempt to remove it.
“Jealous much?” Sonic retorted.
Shadow grumbled and walked in the front room, his Chao following behind before giving them a dirty look.
After he left, the couple couldn’t help but snigger amongst themselves like little children.
“Hey,” Sonic stroked her hair, moving his hand to the back of her head and effortlessly pulled out her hair band. Amy instinctively covered her head and demanded her husband give it back. Amy’s hair kept growing into her teens until it was halfway down her back. She began getting lots of compliments, particularly from male suitors. Even Sonic timidly admitted longer quills suited her better before they got married. However, Amy began to see it more as hinderance whilst doing household chores and so tying it back was more practical for her.
“Please, I like your hair down.” Amy’s expression softened and brushed her quills with her palms. Sonic sensed her insecurity and reassured her with a kiss on her forehead.
“Okay,” she relented and two grabbed the trays of food and went back into kitchen to mingle with their friends.
Their house was now packed with all their closest friends, just as it was a week before. Once they arrived and all accounted for, Amy picked up a glass and a spoon and tapped them together to get everyone’s attention.
“I hope you are all have a good time. Sonic and I are glad you were all able to come on such short notice.”
“This better be good.” The red echidna piped up.
“Knux, calm down, let them talk.” Tails tried to calm him down. “I miss seeing you all without the threat of work looming the next day.”
“Yeah, I’m lucky this was my day off,” Vector chimed in. “Espio and Charmy may be able to slack off, but crime never sleeps," he bragged.
“Well, she’ll tell you if you all shut up and let my wife talk!” Sonic yelled to quieten down the room.
“The reason why you are all here is because Sonic and I have some big news.” Amy urgently told Sonic to go upstairs and grab ‘it’. Soon, the blue blur came downstairs, holding a large object, covered by a red sheet.
“Do ya’ wanna’ do the honours?” He asked his wife and she eagerly pull away the sheet to reveal to Chao egg.
Cream and Cheese immediately jumped out of their seats in excitement. “Oh! That’s amazing!” Cheese and Shadow’s Chao flew up the egg, curious as to who their future playmate will look like.
“We picked him up from the local Chao Garden on Friday. The attendant said they could crack the egg open for us, but Amy wanted ‘em to hatch on his own. They said it wouldn’t take long, but he’s stayed put all weekend.” Sonic explained.
“ She’ll come out when she’s ready,” Amy chastised him for his usual impatience, and put the egg down on the coffee table.
“He has been moving a bit, so she should hatch later tonight, and we can all see what she looks like.”
“Do you have a name yet? Are going to feed him Chaos drives or absorb animals?” Cream asked frantically. “I can babysit whenever you want!”
Amy was about to answer until a hyperactive bee shouted out in an annoyed huff, “Is that it?!”
“I thought you were going to tell us something bigger, like you were gonna’ have a baby or something...”
Sonic blushed and coughed to hide his anxiety. “Hey now, we just got a pet, let us build up to that.” The irony of Sonic the hedgehog asking others to be patient was not lost his friends, and Shadow and Knuckles both smirked at each other whilst sipping tea.
“Actually...” Amy nervously twiddled her thumbs. “I have another announcement.”
“Amy?!” Sonic was in the dark as all his friends were.
The pink hedgehog took a deep breath and held Sonic’s hand tightly. “As some of you already know, Sonic and I celebrated our tenth anniversary and went on a worldwide vacation, and since we got back, I realised something.”
She looked at Sonic intently and plainly said, “I’m pregnant.”
The whole room erupted in shares of gasps and then elation as everyone cheered for the couple. To Sonic however, everything when silent. He felt he was about to faint, his were wobbling, trying to stabilise himself. Luckily everyone was too busy crowding around Amy and giving their obligatory ‘congratulations’ to notice the colour leave Sonic’s face. It was only Shadow that offered him a shoulder to lean on and smarmily quipped, “You couldn’t control yourself, could you?”
“No... I couldn’t,” was all Sonic had the strength to reply.
As if his heart couldn’t take any more sudden, life changing news, the Chao egg as if by cruel fate, began to crack and a small, blue creature slowly crawled out of the egg, off the coffee table and into Sonic’s lap.
“Chao!” The creature cried out his first words, causing his friends and his wife to crowd the Chao and the new father of two.
Sonic feeling various degrees of fear, pride and happiness, smiled and hugged his new Chao buddy.
In the 2 weeks since he turned 30, so much had changed in the blink of an eye. From a 29-year-old with a dead-end job and withering marriage with no friends to visit, Sonic had managed to turn things around for the better as he always did. Now Sonic was on another adventure with his wife by his side to look after their children.
His journey to his forties would be the wildest yet.
Notes:
I actually FINISHED a story, within a month of posting the first chapter. It must be a miracle or a sign of the end of days. Writing and writing about Sonic always getting me in a creative mood and Sonic doesn't stop running, then neither shall I. It has been therapeutic writing this. Maybe next time I'll write about the GOOD FUTURE of Sonic and Amy's marriage one day. This story is technically complete, but I'm going to post another one-shot in relation to this story, but didn't fit in here.
Thank you so much for enjoying this story and I'll see you all next time when the Sonamy bug hits me again. If Frontiers is anything to go by, the next month will be a gold mine for Sonamy content so I hope all of you are hungry!
