Work Text:
july thirteenth
a day i never want to remember
but can never forget
the day things changed
a cold wind blew over the
steamy summer night
too hot under my three blankets
skin slicked with sweat and tears
sweatshirt long abandoned
on the cluttered floor
a jarring strike
an impact on my heart
a bruised indent forming
a piece chipping off
and falling away
in the aftermath
a light glow from the screen of a phone
a call hung up
leaving a wretched wound
a cat circling
wondering what’s wrong
a lump underneath the covers quivers shaken sobs torn from a throat rubbed raw
july thirteenth
a tranquil night forever tainted
with the blood of lost love
