There was a beat, a silence. You exhaled the breath you hadn’t realised you’d been holding in the hopes of filling it.
“You’ve got to stop saying that, Eds.”
“Why?” His eyes snapped up to meet yours.
“Because you sound so damn sure of yourself that I might start to believe you.”
He crossed the distance between you in a few short strides, and suddenly his hands were on your face, cupping your cheeks between them as he pulled you in closer.
All he said before he kissed you was, “You should.”
