Work Text:
Draco awoke with his arms around a very much so awake husband. He clearly hadn’t taken any effort to properly get out of bed, for he was reading with his glasses instead of his usual contacts. Draco couldn’t help but admire Harry, for he was truly the most mesmerizing thing around.
He flipped a page in his book, and without even looking towards Draco, he stated with a feigned annoyance, “you got home late last night. I had to tuck the kids into bed without you. And fall asleep on my own.” He turned to Draco. “Where were you?” The concern in his voice was not fake, and was laced with scrunched eyebrows and a frown. Harry never failed to let his emotions be written all over his face. It was one of the things Draco loved about him.
“Ron and I were working overtime to finish the report. I’m so sorry, Sweetheart. But, on the brightside, Robards gave me Monday off too,” Draco sat up with a smile to run his fingers through Harry’s hair.
“So you got a four day weekend? Instead of three? I thought he already gave you today off for Liv’s birthday?”
“Yeah, he said it was ‘cause I earned it or something. It won’t even count as a sick day against me. So, I was thinking, Liv plans today, Scorp plans tomorrow, you plan Sunday, and I plan Monday? So it’s all fair?” Draco smiled. He knew Liv would choose something that his knees could never handle, and that Scorp would choose something that would terrify the whole family, but he didn’t care.
“That would be wonderful. Absolutely wonderful.” Harry said with a grin. He put his book down and pecked Draco on the lips, “Merlin I love you with a beard so much.”
Draco locked their lips together again and hummed. He felt Harry smile against him. It was a satisfying feeling. They both jumped when their door was slammed open by a bouncing now six year old.
“I’m six! I’m six! Daddy, Papa, can you believe it? I’m six! And—ew! No kissing on my birthday!” Liv crunched up her nose, and stuck out her tongue. Someone started up the cooties rumor before school ended, and Liv’s been fully against her parents even holding hands in fear of the dreaded virus.
“Alright, alright, no kissing on your birthday.” Draco laughed. He opened his arms and Liv jumped right into them.
Scorp, on the other hand, did not match their moods, and was clearly mad about being woken up. “You better get her to shut up, she woke me up with her screeching.” Scorpius had just turned thirteen in May, and was already starting to act it.
“Alright, Scorp you can watch TV while Liv gets dressed and I make breakfast okay? Draco, hon, can you go help Liv and make sure her hair looks good?” Harry was already in the doorway, and he had turned to Draco to ask him the question.
“Yeah, I’ll go do that.” And that was the moment he realized he was the happiest man on earth.
