"Is it the third day already? Time sure flies doesn't it?" Miroku said with a laugh as he approached. Inuyasha sat by the bone eaters well with his chin and arms crossed perched on it's edge. He looked like he was patiently waiting for something, or rather someone for that matter. His eyes stared ahead half lidded while wind gently blew through his silver bangs. He gave a small 'mmm' noise in response but never looked the man's way. "Sango is making a nice soup for dinner tonight and we'd love for you to join us and get to know the girls better."
"Why? They're babies, they won't remember me." Inuyasha mumbled.
"Maybe but it would be good practice for when you have a family of your own!" Miroku saw Inuyasha tense up and worried if he'd taken it a step too far. The half demon didn't move though and there was several seconds of awkward silence between them.
"That obviously ain't gonna happen so why does it matter?" He finally replied in a hushed, gruff tone of voice.
"If you truly believe that, then why do you come here every three days?" Inuyasha scoffed at his friend's comment.
"Smart ass." He muttered again.
"Well the offers always stands." Miroku replied sadly before taking his leave. Inuyasha let a long, heavy sigh escape from his lips. The monks comment hurt more than he'd like to admit. His hands wandered to the purple beads around his neck. For a long time they were just an annoying inconvenience that frustrated him but now... He twirled them between his fingers. Her voice rang through his mind of her yelling the familiar 'Sit!' command. He could almost see them light up and practically feel the hard pull before throwing him to the ground. Inuyasha felt a smile playing at the edge of his lips in spite of himself.
"Where are you, Kagome? Will you ever come back to me?" He wondered out loud to himself in a breathy whisper.
______________
Kagome absent mindlessly played with the jewelry that hung around his neck. Inuyasha laid on his back with an arm holding her against his side and her head on his shoulder, while his hand was lightly moving up and down her bare back. "What are you thinking about?" He suddenly asked her quietly.
"Why do you still wear them? The beads I mean." They weren't something that were used very often anymore, quite few and far between for a long time. Truth be told she definitely abused their usefulness back then, especially in moments of immature jealousy. "I've improved my spiritual power pretty well now. I could probably just remove them." Kagome lifted the jewelry up slightly but he put a hand on hers.
"No. They're a connection between us. When we were separated I used them as a reminder of hope that you'd come back." She couldn't help but laugh a little.
"Wow, who would have thought you'd come to like them!" He rolled his eyes at her joke.
"Yeah yeah laugh it up!" He replied sarcastically. Kagome thumbed it a bit, enjoying the satisfying click clack sounds it made in her hand.
"I couldn't imagine you without them now, honestly. It would look so weird." She teased playfully.
"They're apart of me now, whether I like it or not." Kagome smiled at that and scooted further into his side. Inuyasha adjusted himself so that he could put a hand on her cheek and meet her lips with his in a soft kiss before rolling on top of her.

"Hey, mom....?" Moroha said with a curious voice. The small family were enjoying the nice weather while Kagome worked on a remedy for some sick villagers. She stopped the task of grinding herbs into a powder and turned her head to look at her daughter. "This might be a weird question but why does dad wear that necklace?" Kagome let out an amused giggle while Inuyasha's ears wiggled but his eyes stared off in the distance with an irritated glare.
"Kaede put them on him right after we first met."
"Why?" Moroha wondered out loud with a small head tilt and it made Kagome think for a moment on how to answer.
"Well, let's just say that he was even more cranky than he is now and it was a necessary measure at the time. He'd often need to be, ummm, reigned in you could say." He huffed at his wife's answer. Moroha had a look of understanding.
"Ooooh I see! Is that why he slams to the ground when you say sit?" She observed, to which Kagome smiled and nodded. They heard him let out a small growl under his breath.
"He's a lot better now so I don't use it quite as often these days."
"Ya could've fooled me! Seems like still use it plenty!" He griped. Kagome frowned at him.
"No I don't! I used it almost everyday back then! Somedays even several times in a row when you were being especially annoying!"
"Yeah right! You just wanna look cool in front of Moroha I bet! Good luck with that!" He argued back and finally turned to look at her only to instantly regret the decision.
"Inuyashaaaa...." Kagome muttered and he gulped with fear. "Sit!" The beads shone before he was slammed head first into the hard ground below. She went back to her previous task, grinding harder than earlier from anger.
"You probably should have seen that coming, dad..." Moroha commented while kneeling down and lightly poking him with a small stick while he made a whimpering sound.
