Work Text:
Lelouch sighed at the sight greeting him once he stepped out of the bathroom after his shower. Their already small apartment seemed now even smaller after Suzaku had sprawled his books, notes and various stationery everywhere. The table was covered in scribbled notes and empty coffee mugs and Lelouch’s boyfriend was currently staring at his pc with his hands in his hair, unaware of the other’s presence.
Lelouch was aware of Suzaku’s anxiety in regard to his upcoming exam, but he thought that turning their living room into a war zone was…definitely not what was going to help him pass.
But Suzaku was stubborn, so he knew no amount of talking and persuading was going to quiet his spirits. Still, Lelouch knew he could be quite convincing, especially when it came to his boyfriend.
Suzaku was so immersed in his study session that he didn’t hear Lelouch’s footsteps approach from behind, only waking up from his trance when a hand entered his field of vision and slowly closed the pc in front of him.
“Uh, hello? What are you doing? You know I have an exam in two days.”
“I am very well aware, considering how thrashed this place looks. Which only happens when a certain someone has an exam.”
Suzaku groaned, rubbing his eyes, only then realising how sore they felt.
“You’ve been studying since before I left for class this morning. And I’ve been out for half a day. Did you even take a break?”
Suzaku didn’t answer and Lelouch clicked his tongue with a sigh.
“Get up now, wash yourself. I’ll clean up here.”
“But-“
“I will not hear anything from you.”
Lelouch was already picking up the papers, stacking them neatly on a chair and Suzaku couldn’t find the energy in him to talk back. Perhaps his boyfriend was right.
Almost falling asleep in the shower not once, but twice, did make Suzaku think that perhaps stopping for the day had been the right choice, but he hated having to admit Lelouch was right. The shower seemed to have alleviated, if only slightly, his headache and sore eyes, which was definitely appreciated. Now clean and less restless, Suzaku walked back to the living room, which thanks to Lelouch’s care seemed a completely new room. No flying papers, no coffee mugs, and everything were perfectly in order.
“Sit on the couch, I’ll be there in a bit,” Lelouch called from the kitchen. Suzaku let himself fall on the couch and sighed in relief at finally resting his beck on something soft, instead of the shitty, hard Ikea chair he had been studying on all day. While waiting for Lelouch, he turned on the tv, mindlessly zapping from one channel to the other.
“I made your stupid boxed Mac n cheese that you loved so much.” Lelouch sneered, walking over to the couch with two bowls in his hands, and handing one to Suzaku.
“Eating on the couch? You’re really spoiling me.” The brunette replied with a laugh, looking at his boyfriend while he rolled his eyes.
“I’m only doing this for today, don’t get too used to it. And don’t dirty my couch.”
“Our couch” Suzaku corrected him, leaning into Lelouch’s shoulder and tilting his head with an arrogant smile.
“Eat your pasta before I regret spoiling you.”
It was an empty threat, Suzaku knew it. Still, he straightened back up, still smiling and digging into the food.
“Do you feel any better?”
Suzaku jumped slightly at the question, realising he had been dozing off. He nodded fast, trying to suppress a yawn.
“Yes, very much. Thank you.” He looked at his boyfriend, Lelouch only humming and turning back to the tv, his expression softer than usual. He wasn’t affectionate in the typical, classical way people are used to, Suzaku had known that ever since they were children. Which could only mean that the brunette had studied for years the other’s behaviours until his love languages had become second nature to him. Now he always knew when Lelouch was wordlessly telling him “I love you” through his actions, as small and mundane as they might be, and he was grateful each time for every single one.
“Did you want to go to bed? You seem exhausted.”
“Maybe I should, but I don’t want to get up.” Suzaku let out a whine at the last sentence, making Lelouch roll his eyes again with an amused scoff.
“I wanted to finish watching this documentary if that’s okay with you. You can take a nap and I’ll wake you up once it’s done.”
It didn’t seem like a bad idea. Suzaku crossed his arms, closing his eyes, but before long he felt a hand wrap around his shoulder and slowly drag him down, guiding him to rest against Lelouch’s chest, who had propped himself up against the couch’s armrest. His slender fingers found their way to Suzaku’s messy hair and started rubbing slow circles on his scalp. The brunette smiled, letting his eyes fall close again, this time for good.
