Chapter Text
“@*#!*@#& MYNE?” Said a lady
The Lady in front off me was rather beautiful. Her vibrant long red hair tied up in a bun. She most definitely took good care of her appearance.
I could feel new words being implanted in my skull.
“Are you up Myne? You were screaming in your sleep.”
Who’s Myne?
Suddenly, i heard another voice
“It’s so hot. Help me!.”
I agreed with the child (Myne?)’s voice.
“Come here Myne, let me feel your head.” The lady said.
Memories came rushing into me. My Dad, Arnulf, was a tall man with dark Blue hair. He worked as a Leatherworker. Phew. They have books. My Mom, Yvone, worked as a Scribe. Their workshops apparently due a lot of business together, and that’s how they met.
My Sister, Melanie, had lavender hair, and wished to be a merchant. We don’t have many connections, so it’ll be a bit of an uphill battle, but my parents are working hard to let her achieve her dreams.
ARGH! These feelings aren’t mine!
“I’m fine Mom. I feel much better now.”
At that moment, when I called Yvone my Mom, i ceased being Urano Mototsu, and truly became Myne
Mom felt my head, which was still warm. “Get some rest.”
“Can I have a book?” I asked.
“We don’t own any books Myne. I know that I said they’re full of adventure last night, but we don’t have the money to buy any of them. Plus, you don’t know your letters.”
I’m not letting books get away that easy. Time to play the ultimate card. “I want to learn them! I want to be like you!”
“Aww, that’s so sweet, but they’re still too expensive. It takes a month to make a single book.”
No! I should have known, we haven’t gotten to the point in history where the printing press has been invented! It seems like there’s paper though.
“Why mom? What makes it take so long?”
“We have to copy each page by hand. Of course it takes a long time.”
How do I plant the Idea of a printing press in her head? If we make a printing press, then book production would go up.
I looked around the room, and saw Dad’s stencils. He uses them to work on the designs. What if I start by suggesting mimeograph printing.
“Why don’t you use [stencils?]”
“I don’t know what you mean?”
“Those things dad uses, with the holes.”
“Stencils? Huh? That’s not a bad idea Myne. I’ll talk to the foreman about it. That could save so much time. Myne, do you mind if I take credit for this idea?”
“No, it’ll get you a [raise], right? You’ll get more money.”
“It just might get me my beruf certification.”

When Mom came back home the next day, she wanted to talk to me. I was going over some of Melanie’s worksheets with her, trying to learn the letters.
“Did you do it mom?”
“Yeah! I did it! I told the foreman your idea, and he said ‘That’s great, but customers rarely want more than one copy of a book.’ then turned me away.”
NO! This world doesn’t understand why this is a great Idea. I might have to go further.
“What if the stencils were for words or letters?” I asked. “Maybe they could be more like the presses Dad uses to make designs?”
“Hmm… That would be more useful for singular copies of books. I’ll talk to him, but no promises.”
That was all I could ask for.
