"Go, Pete!" Tony yelled, watching him overtake Clint in Mario Cart.
"Damnit," Clint said in turn, making Peter laugh.
"Consider it revenge for always winning." Wanda said.
Clint stuck his tongue out.
Just as Peter was about to pass the finish line for the last time, the screen cut off.
"Ha! My winning streak remains!"
Natasha looked at him, setting down her controller. "Peter still would've beat you."
"I hate to interrupt your little game night," Fury said dryly as his face appeared on the screen. "But there have been reports of unknown alien technology planted around the city. The coordinates of the buildings in question have been sent. Get on it."
Fury left the screen, and the Avengers, plus Peter, rushed to put their costumes on. They split off into teams and started off to their respective buildings.
"Queens, take the left corridor and evacuate any civilians you find. Call me if you find anything suspicious."
Peter gave Steve a salute. "Aye aye Captain!"
It was a few minutes before Peter came across a group of people. They looked mostly okay, except two men being supported by the others, who looked like they'd been beat.
"What happened?"
"They ran across someone planting what we assume is the alien tech. They tried to stop them," a woman said.
"Do you know where it was?"
"Yeah, I'll take you there."
"No, you need to evacuate with the others. We don't know what it might do."
"Exactly," the woman argued. "The doors don't have numbers, and we don't have time for you to roam around looking for the twelfth picture of the Eiffel Tower."
Peter wanted to argue, but she wasn't wrong. Also, why would anyplace have that many pictures of the Eiffel Tower? They weren't in a travel agency or restaurant. "Fine, but you have to go as soon as you show me."
"Gotcha," She held out a hand. "Katie."
"Spiderman," He said, shaking her hand. "The rest of you, head to the exit."
Peter notified Steve and they were on their way. It was about a five minute jog before Katie pointed out a door. "This one."
Peter nodded and opened the door. There in the middle of the windowless room sat a roundish piece of machinery that was blinking a bright red. There was a low sound emanating from it, although it was so quiet Peter doubted anyone without enhanced hearing would pick it up.
It took him a moment, but he realized he'd heard the particular sound before.
"Run!" He ordered, beginning to cover the bomb in webbing. It wouldn't completely contain the explosion, but it would at least reduce it. Thankfully, when he looked back, Katie had left.
Just as Peter turned to follow her, he was flung forward, crashing into the wall. He snapped his neck back to look at the damage. The bomb was still mostly in one piece, sounding like it was gearing up for another pulse of energy, or whatever it was. The room was covered in cracks, and a sinking dread made itself home in his stomach.
If Peter didn't do something, and something soon, the room, and then the building would come down. He began reinforcing the room with webs.
"Captain Rogers, how many people are left in the building?" He asked adding more webs to the bomb.
"Not many. What caused the building to shake?"
"I have it handled, just get everyone out."
Peter took in a sharp breath. His heart was racing, but he knew he had to keep the building up long enough for Katie and the others to get out. He had managed to hold a boat together, surely he could keep the building together.
"Okay," Steve said after a pause.
Peter estimated it took five minutes before the bomb recharged. He ducked behind a desk, avoiding as much of the blast as he could.
"Spiderman?" His comm cracked to life in his ear.
"Y— yeah. I'm here."
"Everyone is out. Where are you?"
"Heh, about that. Kinda containing a bomb?"
"Get out now, this is an order!" Steve said, a feeling of underlying horror clear in his voice.
"Okay." Peter let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding, and began running out the door. The particular hallway didn't have windows, and he knew he had to get down a flight of steps before he'd find one.
He was halfway down the stairs when the building jolted. His heart stuttered right along with it. The explosions must have been gathering intensity along with decreasing the time between them. How long had the thing been letting out pulses before he'd got there?
Peter's breath hitched, and he realized he'd stopped. He forced himself to move, even as he felt the walls closing in on him.
It couldn't have been more than a few seconds before Peter heard a sound that sounded eerily reminiscent of the warehouse with the Vulture.
"No," Peter whispered to himself, looking to the ceiling. There were cracks covering it, and plaster falling from the walls. He felt his breath pick up. He was going to be caught under the warehouse again with no one to help him.
The building shook again, and this time Peter felt the floor fall from beneath him. A scream caught in his throat along with a sob. He frantically shot web, trying to catch himself, but it only brought more debris down towards him.
Peter opened his eyes. Everything was dark, and he was reasonably sure he was pined. "Help! Please! Please— someone—" He broke off into a cough. He didn't want to die. He tried to push himself up, but nothing moved. "I'm— I'm stuck!"
There was a sound in his ear. It was garbled, and nearly impossible for him to make out, but it sounded like Tony's voice.
"Mr. Stark?" Peter wasn't sure if he could hear him, but the voice came back. "Help, please. I— I— can't— I can't get out."
Someone else said something. It wasn't Tony, but Peter wasn't able to discern who it was outside of it being a woman's voice.
"I don't understand— I don't—" He let out a choked sob.
He didn't know how long he was stuck before he felt the weight let up on his back. The mumbled voices that he had assumed were from his comm became clearer. He felt himself be picked up as his eyes slipped shut.
"Blood loss—"
"Medbay—"
"Underoos—"
"Awake— Don't sleep—"
Sleep sounded nice.
When Peter next awoke, it was to beeping and whirling. His heart rate must have spiked, because May and Tony both rushed to assure him he was okay. That he was in the medbay with them.
May ran a hand through his hair. "How do you feel, Baby?"
"Fine... What happened?" Peter asked. He thought he knew, but he'd had nightmares in similar veins before.
"You were caught in an explosion and burred under a building," Tony said. "I've chewed Capsicle out for leaving you there. He damn well should've known better."
"That's what I thought."
"Kid," Tony said. "When you were stuck, you said some concerning things. Please don't tell me you were stuck under a building before."
"I wasn't?" Peter said weakly.
"Who—"
"Tony." May shot him a glare. "We can talk about this later. We will talk about this later, but right now just focus on getting better."
Peter nodded. There would undoubtedly be a long conversation later, and he wasn't sure how it would go, but at least for the moment, Peter was okay.
