Touching was always Charles's love language. Even when he was a kid, maybe because he got so little of it, as he grew up touch-starved, he yearned to hold someone close, or just run his fingers through their hair.
It wouldn't necessarily have to be romantic, platonic friendly touches were just as important for him.
They spent lots of time cuddling with Raven when they were young, sleeping together to keep each other company during the long nights.
Touching came very naturally to Charles, and when he started dating, it was only natural that he remained a very tactile person in his relationships also.
Erik on the other hand was the complete opposite. He shied away from every touch, and it took him a while to get used to Charles's hands on his skin.
Even after months of knowing each other, he was startled when Charles touched him unexpectedly.
"I'm sorry, my friend," Charles said quickly, realizing Erik's uncomfortableness. "I didn't want to startle you."
"No, it's okay. I'm learning," Erik was quick to reassure Charles. "I know how important it is to you, and I want you to be happy."
Charles smiled. "You make me happy, and I don't want to force you to change for me. Baby steps. And yes, touching might be my love language, but I speak several languages when it comes to love," he winked.
Erik chuckled and pulled Charles into a kiss. "We can come up with our own language, one that both of us feel comfortable with."
"I suggest French," Charles said with a grin and licked his lips.
"Why am I not surprised," Erik mused. "You are such a naughty minx."
"Just for you darling."
Bickering lovingly. That might be their common love language, Erik thought as he gave in to another string of kisses. And he wouldn't have it any other way.
