Work Text:
How did all of you end up here? The ones that remained as it is.
Sean murdered by the Grays, Hosea killed by Agent Milton, Lenny following suit, Molly being shot by Miss Grimshaw some days ago.
What happened of the people you once called family?
Tilly and Mary-Beth had left. You didn’t blame them. Arthur persuaded Abigail and Jack into doing the same.
The cowboy tried to convince you to join the rest of the women; you refused. You were going to stay until the end. It was going to come sooner or later.
Javier hadn’t touched his guitar in weeks, Bill being wasted for the majority of the day, Dutch unable to think straight.
Micah Bell was a man you would hunt until your very end. You would rather die tonight and drag him down to hell with you.
You had Sadie Adler’s fury and Arthur Morgan’s aim. Your bullet was going to hit its target.
Beneath the anger, frustration, and excessive worrying about the next hour, laid your heartbreak.
Your heart ached for your lost friends, for Arthur Morgan and his sealed fate, for the lover that you lost to a rat.
You’ve loved Dutch Van Der Linde for years and he claimed that he felt the same.
Oh, what would you give to relive a simple night: the gramophone playing some soft tune as Dutch read to you one of Evelyn Miller’s books.
You rarely paid attention to the content of the book, Dutch’s voice was of greater interest to you.
It was deep and soothing altogether. It eased your mind and ignited fires within you at the same time.
“Am I boring you my love?” Dutch chucked, shutting the book as he let it drop on the floor of the tent.
“You could never. You’re just, very good at lulling me to sleep.” You grinned as you opened your eyes and met his dark orbs.
“That’s not very reassuring.” The leader smirked jokingly as he leaned down and connected his lips with yours.
“(Y/N)?” Your trip down to memory lane was interrupted by that same voice that once was filled with adoration for you.
It sounded so empty now.
“Yes?” You answered without turning around to meet him, the forest in front of you bringing you a sense of peace that you desperately needed.
“You won’t even look at me?” There was some hurt in his tone, but you stood your ground.
Dutch had deliberately ignored your warnings about Micah and his influence. You couldn’t comprehend how such an intelligent man was fooled by such a manipulative bastard.
“I’m tired Dutch. I can’t keep on fighting with you if you won’t hear me out.”
You sighed and stood up from your spot, finally meeting his gaze. Those eyes that were usually shining with hope for the future, were now dull and sunken.
Dutch was ready to speak up before the Devil himself walked by his side; like a thorn sticking out of a rose.
“Boss, me and the boys have been planning a heist that’s very promising. We could get some real money and get out of here.”
You tightened your hands into fists, biting the inside of your cheek as you evidently glared daggers at Micah.
“What’s wrong sweetheart? Disappointed you’re not included?” He laughed, taunting you as he staggered away from the two of you.
“Who are you?” You whispered while shaking your head, walking past Dutch without getting too far before his hand stopped you.
“I’m still the man you fell in love with.” Dutch muttered meekly, his grip tightening on your forearm.
Closing your eyes, your other hand landed on top of his as you toyed with the ring on his little finger.
“I wish I could believe that.” You spoke clearly, eyes watery and lips trembling. You would never love anyone as intensely as you love Dutch.
“Dutch!” A familiar voice yelled, making your blood run cold. John Marston was supposed to be dead .
The two of you ran towards the source of the commotion and there you were greeted by an unbelievable sight:
John Marston was alive, his one arm bleeding, but alive and riding into this godforsaken camp.
“You abandoned me!” The wounded man screamed at Dutch and the leader didn’t know what was more terrifying;
His adopted son accusing him of such a thing or the horrified expression on your face.
“ The Pinkertons discovered the camp! There’s a whole heap of them!”
Javier screamed, all of you quickly becoming alert as you took out your weapons and readied yourselves for the fight.
“Damn you all!” Micah screamed as he pointed his gun at you and pressed the trigger, hitting you in the left shoulder.
“You bastard.” You thought to yourself as you fell on your knees. The next thing you felt was the earth moving due to the hundreds of horses riding into your camp.
As the fight broke out, you were dragged behind a rock. Looking up, you were met with Dutch’s face and he looked oh so lost.
“I should have listened to you.” You would have laughed if it weren’t for the excruciating pain in your shoulder. Dutch admitting that he was wrong? Or the closest to it.
“Save yourself.” Your breathing was become ragged and you began to feel cold. Even if you died today, you wanted him to escape.
“I should have done more. You were always my voice of reason, this shouldn’t have happened.”
He was rambling as he tried to stop the blood from your wound, deep down knowing that he was losing you.
“You can’t leave me.” A sob escaped the usually contained man, and your heart broke at the sound.
“Dutch.” You tried so hard to stay awake, to keep him company as chaos unraveled around the two of you.
“My dear.” Your lover cupped your face and rested his forehead on yours, feeling your last breath hit his skin as you left this world once and for all.
“Forgive me, my dearest.”
Dutch left Beaver Hollow with nothing but emptiness in his heart.
His greatest fear had become reality.
He was utterly alone, and there was nobody else to blame but himself.
Your blood stained his hands for the rest of his life, even until his own death.
THE END!
