Work Text:

Opposites attract. In friends in people. That always seemed to be the saying right? Was it true though? Let’s find out.

Ever since Rek met Branzy he’s gotten in trouble more times than he could count. Since the start of school, since Echocraft, since lifesteal. Before meeting the white haired boy in 7th grade he was doing great in class. He did great in everything. Then it all changed when heaven met hell. Rek was partnered up with him and Branzy well got distracted to say the least. Rek was dreading the due date but a few days before it was due Branzy got all of his work done. Instantly. He watched as Branzy was absorbed in his work about atoms and the ways that they combined to make different substances. The reactions between them too. He had about 5 slides on just the way that they reacted with each other. Following it 3 slides on how they combined and with a ton of notes in his hands.

Rek thought that he copy and pasted it but nope it was all printed on a google doc. Not to mention Branzy took up the whole 20 minutes they were meant to present and more. He held the classes attention anticipation and once he revealed it he didn’t disappoint. Branzy never disappointed. Then he started calling Rek, Rekrap. Even though everyone called him Parker at the time. When he first heard Branzy use the term Rek he was confused and in shock on why he would give him that name. He didn’t know that it was his name backwards.

Although he got used to it and everyone started calling him either Rekrap, or Rek. Although Rek was with his closer friends. Soon he found himself doing more projects with him. He even began noticing his pranks towards the more popular kids and his ‘betrayals’ with them too. He would expose them out of nothing but pure delight on the internet and Rek was scared that he was next. Although it never came. He found that Branzy constantly shared his things with Rek. If he forgot to do his homework, which was rare, Branzy would give him the answers but mostly help him since Rek wanted to actually understand it. Branzy respected it and helped him.

Soon though Branzy became Reks sidekick. Rek began getting more and more popular after a stunt he did went viral and Branzy was just there. Although he did cheer him on and when he thought that Branzy would be and he wasn't. He was happy for his friend and made a whole celebration with his friends and everything. He began noticing that Branzy would help him whenever he fell down. So he began feeling bad. Branzy wasn’t doing what he liked anymore. Pranks, he didn’t do them as often as a junior and instead he was swamped with homework. He got it done easily don't get him wrong but it took him so long to become interested in it. It took him so long to get it and by the time he did it was already due so he was speeding it during the middle of class.

Although he did get it done. Rek Found it amazing how Branzy could do such things without a second thought in his mind other than getting it done. When Rek would mention it though Branzy would just critique himself and not getting it done earlier. Then hell really came into shape. He began not wanting to do anything with his test scores. Instead he would prank the whole school, let chickens loose with numbers on them but missing one. Dying the water pink and blue. Painting on the school bathrooms walls. Hell even hiding speakers playing the Rick roll the,e over and over again.

Although whenever Rek confronted him Branzy moved away from Rek. Then Rek would help clean up his mess. He would clean the walls since he was part of the NHS and he would raise funds for the school. Slowly but surely the two who were once inseparable were drifting apart and Rek couldn’t do anything about it except watch. Watch as his best friend sat with him not saying a word and instead planning small devious things. Watch has his grade dropped. Watch as he got called to the office for the dumbest things. Watch as his best friend slowly slipped away and he had no idea why.

Then one day it clicked finals were coming up. He also knew a few stuck up people in some of Branzys classes who he soon found out criticized him on things he couldn’t control. Mainly his hair and eyes, they way they contrasted. Then it came to his attention span. It became horrible over the upcoming years. Branzy couldn’t even write a sentence without picking up his pen and drawing on his hand. Then came out his outbursts through small and dumb pranks. Then bigger and more planned and thought out ones. He couldn’t control his outbursts. They just happened and then he would move on. Then Rek just talked to Branzy about it.

It was a bright and sunny day although it was expected to rain tomorrow and he was sitting alone with Branzy. “So are you okay man?” Rek asked. Nothing could’ve prepared him for Branzys expression towards such a simple expression.

”I’m fine, what would are you think I’m not,” This we’re the words of someone dying to be understood. Someone dying to be better. It was the words of his friend Branzy. Although Rek couldn’t believe that they came from him. They were too monotonous and bland to be him. They had no energy or anything in them. So it couldn’t be Branzy.

”I just-, I’ve been noticing that you’ve been... off lately,” Rek stated. God it sounded like he was trying on of those cringed if you’re having with your friend type of methods. Branzy noticed and made a comment on it but nothing else.

”I’m good genuinely,” This time more enthusiasm was put into his words on purpose to throw Rek off. Although it worked for a few split seconds Rek glared at Branzy practically demanding an answer now.

”Branzy,”

Now Branzy didn’t answer. “I’m, fine” now those words were forced.

”Branzy I wanna help you but I can’t if you’re like this alright-“ Rek stopped himself those words came out harsher than he intended he made it sound like Branzy was the problem.

”You really wanna know what’s going on? I can’t pay attention to anything! And it’s not helping with those fucking stuck up assholes in classes, it’s not helping that my grades are failing and I can’t get any fucking sleep over it because I’m worried about it all night long! I can’t even go a few days without having an outburst and wanting everything to just be gone! I need to do something cause if I don’t I don’t know what’s gonna happen. Not to mention by the time I’m doing it I can’t stop. It just feels good to let something out for once... it feels good to just stop thinking,” Branzy trailed off now hugging his knees.

Rek knew what Branzy had, it didn’t need to be said. Or thought of for that matter. But he knew that it was there and Branzy did too. They both knew that it got worse and worse over the years too. So that didn’t help.

"So why don't you just flip them off?" Rek asked after a while. Branzy looked at him confused before laughing slightly.

"I'm not just gonna flip random people off!" Branzy exclaimed. Now his speech was more light-hearted. Rek smiled at it seeing that he got his friend back.

"Really? You did it to all of your teachers,"

"In my defense they deserved it," Branzy muttered. Rek smiled as they began talking more and more again. Heaven found its Hell. But not in the way that they were fighting but Rek was Branzy's anchor from things. Such as school and Branzy's was Rek's. Soon though they became seniors and Branzy became anxious once more.

"You good?" Rek asked. Branzy turned over to his friend and smiled softly.

"I mean, I don't know what's gonna happen, cause you know I wanna join a server and everything but I don't know if its gonna work out," Branzy laughed nervously and rubbed the back of his neck. It was clear that he was telling the truth although rek didn't know why he was worried.

"You shouldn't be, honestly you're one of the smartest people in the school. LIke servers should be begging for you to join them," Rek complimented. Branzy smiled at his friend.

"No but like I'm not good at Pvp-"

"I'm sure its fine,"

Rek cut him off because he wanted Branzy to see himself for how others saw him. He wanted Branzy to see himself as a good person who didn't need pointless skills such as Pvp. Sure maybe it was helpful in servers and stuff but that didn't matter. At least not to Rek it didn't. Also apparently to Echcraft cause they both got invited to season 2 of it. Rek and Branzy chilled out mostly while making a recycling company and Branzy pranked his friends.

Then season three came around and Rek got invited to Lifesteal during it. He didn't know how to feel but Branzy kept telling him to take the invite and if he didn't he would regret it. Rek knew that it was true but didn't wanna leave Branzy behind even though Branzy was trying to get him to go. So soon enough he went and he had so much fun that he stayed there for a while switching between the two servers. Then halfway through Echocraft Branzy got invited to the 3rd season of Lifesteal and he accepted it. Branzy caused chaos hanging out with Vitalasy, Subz, and Ash becoming communists. Although Rek soon betrayed him he kept feeling anxiety about what Branzy would do outside of it.

He was chill surprisingly. Talking with Rek like it was nothing at all. Soon he wasn't so paranoid around him. So to answer your question opposites do attract.
