Chapter Text
Matt thought that his 'date' smelled like wet dog. He smelled a lot like dog, it almost covered the smell of forest and cheap coffee.
Frankly it was overwhelming but as the man introduced himself as “Jack Russell” he put on a polite smile and stretched out his Hand.
”Nice to meet you, I am Matt.”
His date was quickly to follow and shook it eagerly. His Hand was calloused and he could feel a bit of scar tissue, yet the Handshake was soft. When their Hands disconnected again Jack was the first to say something.
”So.. Foggy got you as well huh?”
Matt chuckled.
”Yes I suppose he did, how do you know him anyways?”
”Oh this is a whole my friend knows the friend of your friend thing but I know that there was a Chain Text going around of him desperately asking anyone to go on a Date with you.”
Jack laughed as Matt buried his Face in his Hands, he gave a muffled response.
”I allowed him to get me a date not to embarrass us like that!”
His laugher only grew and Matt allowed himself to laugh a bit as well. Just then a Waitress, heavily perfumed, walked up to them. She was new, Matt knew this since Peter showed it to him almost a year ago and since then it was his go-to anti sensory overload Coffee shop. He heard the tattle tell of clothes rustling against each other as Jacks hand subtly covered his nose.
That bad huh?
”Hello, I'm Cassy and I'll be your server this evening. Are you ready to order?”
”Uh yes! Could I have a Green Tea please and um-, Matt do you know what you’d like or do you need-?”
”No worries, I’ll have a flat white.”
”Alright! Anything else?”
At this point they both probably wanted nothing more then her gone so they thanked her again and continued talking.
”So Matt, what do you like to do?”
This was of course a basic question, a good starter yet Matt had learned that people didn’t like to answer all too truthfully.
”It’s not about what I like to do but when I have time.”
He shook his head theatrically.
”As you probably know I’m part of a small Law firm and our cases are just piling these last weeks.. But I guess I rather enjoy Boxing.”
”Boxing?”
”Yeah, picked it up as a Child and never let quite go.”
Jack smiled again.
”Are there any good boxing gyms in Hells Kitchen?”
Now it was Matt’s turn to smile.
”Not a single one.”
He knew Jack didn’t quite understand but instead of asking he just took the initiative to talk again. Quite a conversation leader.
”I really like jogging, but that’s just about as much sport that you’ll see me doing.”
They shared a laugh and the Waitress finally arrived with their drinks. They sat there a bit in comfortable silence drinking and just taking the moment in.
It was nice to relax for a bit, he hadn’t had a lot of time to the past few days and he knew that Foggy knew. Because he always did.
Now that Matt thought about it.. that was probably the reason why he was sitting here in the first place.
”So, anything else I should know about you? Any Dark secrets Mr Murdock?”
Matt smiled.
”No, and you Jack Russell?”
His heart beat sped up.
”Nothing I could remember.”
