    Summary

Chaol had a lot of reasons for meeting Aedion secretly every few nights. Protecting Dorian, helping Celaena, making sure the rebels didn't decide he was better off dead. None of those reasons were the truth, though.

Chaol didn’t inspect the truth too closely. He had a vague idea of what he would find, and he wasn’t particularly eager to confront it.

Aedion and Celaena had the same eyes. But Celaena… when she looked at Chaol, back before everything went wrong… she’d looked at him like he was everything right with the world. He had never felt more blessed, more loved than he did when she looked at him like that.

Aedion very definitively did not look at Chaol like Chaol was that good, righteous general Celaena had seen before, and he never would. Aedion looked at Chaol like he saw him. Saw him for what he was. And for some reason, hadn’t yet decided to decorate his sword with Chaol’s stomach.
